It's difficult to believe that Mistral was never targeted after the war after this level of collaboration with the Nazis. After Germany lost, partisans did terrible things to collaborators--shaved their heads and even murdered them. In fact one of Krantz's later books, 'Til We Meet Again, has just this sort of retribution. I can't remember what happens to Mistral in the book after the war, but I don't believe he's even any sort of pariah in the town.
