fascinating, equally fascinating to me are the somali pirates sending emails to corporate shipping to deposit millions in anonymous, european bank accounts, without spilling a drop of blood
ps: catching youre prize, then engaging in bloody hand to hand "Ship" fighting was like night fighting in WW1 ! = no rules! brass knuckles, knives, clubs, swords, daggers, fist's, teeth, anything goes!
14:24.....One small fast ship with a few accurate "swivel" guns, could decimate the crew of a larger ship by slowly and surgically picking off the officers and the enemy up on the rigging and in the gun ports. basically, long range "swivel" sniping!, would have won the day!
@EatDrinkRock1 I totally agree, it's great to watch something that is real no matter if it's historic or not. I'm sick and tired of all the other shit on TV. Another good thing about documentaries on youtube - no commercials.
In fact, the Dutch V.O.C. was a bussiness compagnie. It was the Dutch W.I.C., the West India Compagnie, who would hand out Letters of Mark, in dutch Kaperbrief. One off the greatest captains was Piet Hein, who concurred the spanish Silver Fleet.
Pirates were and still are terrorists. When caught, they were afforded a TRIAL, unlike the indefinite detention now-a-days. Only 1/2 of Black Barts captured crew were hung after a court trial before a judge.
I get so depressed when I think about not being born in the golden age of piracy.... or 2000 years from now when humans will explore space like people did centuries back...
oh noooo... american documentary. Geez, then its not reliable. Sigh Hate to watch american shows, its always so much lies, fake and stupiding it down.
im actually making a homemade pirate ship that will look like golden hind then i sub to other channels and buy swords from a site and a flintlock >:D bringing REAL piracy back as they say.
Pirates used to roam the high seas aboard ships, flying the Skull & Bones. Now they roam the land in Fords, flying the banner of The IRS. [Their bosses are Skull & Bones].
@Dr1Canuckchuck Most of them didnt fly a skull and cross bones, that's a common misconception. Most flew plain black or red flags. 'Jolly Roger' is an English bastardisation of 'Jolie Rouge', French for 'Red Flag'. It has Templar origins.
@carterupm Actually, you seem to have missed my extremely lame attempt at humour. I didn't even mention the name "Jolly Roger", but I see you picked up on the Templar reference in my comment - Skull & Bones.
@Dr1Canuckchuck According to Buckminster Fuller it was the Great Pirates who financed the Royal Families on land which then became the main Sovereign Europian countries. The Great Pirates were the masters of the world. It puts a whole different spin on secret societies, and why maratime admiralty & UCC is so important in the world. He also said that since the GPs are now obsolete, they now specialize only in revenue and money, thus we now have an irrelevant Banking Class/Elite.
Very interesting - thanks. I can't seem to access your channel though. I'll try later.
I guess from your channel name that you're a Hendrix fan. You might like some things I have on my channel - raw blues, not too much like Hendrix, but interesting guitar work anyway.
