  • I HONORE the EFFORT of finding this, HARD-TO-FIND and WELL KNOW, knowledge you demontrate. It about 15 years that i specialize in find worth metal-progressive band. Is not boast my hardhead and ego, is for the good of the experience opinion.

P.S. Is VERY hard to find a person who is a maniac of metal-prog....just to said, i have about, A EASY, 600 metal prog cd.

  • 7:11 to skip Coheed and Cambria

  • Que chingonas bandas my rey un abrazo desde Mexico..A Greates Bands...Wow

  • COHEED IS PROG ROCK...NOT METAL..

BUT THEY ARE AMAZING SONG WRITERS

  • he didn't talk about the best band of all (dope)=(

  • Really nice to see Beyond Twilight on someone's list ;) A truly underrated band!

  • If anything, whether you classify Co&Ca as emo or whatever, they're mainly prog rock. They do have some poppy sounding songs, but the point of prog is to do and try different things.

  • @Yrpffx21234 If the point of prog is to do different and new things why are all these bands doing the same thing?

  • could some be kind to give me a list of bands that are melodic progressive metal?

  • listen to the new coheed album and tell me its not fuckin prog as shit

  • coheed and fucking cambria.....on a video about metal.....dude, wtf

  • @mrlizard8 Yeah I heard this song and I was thinking this band was pretty good, however I heard the rest of their songs and instantly regretted my decision

  • @DTkeysplayer16 But if coheed and cambria made a metal album it would be FUCKING EPIC AS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 9:34 to end. Is that a really slowed down version of Iron Maiden's "wasted years"? It sounds exactly like it =P

  • @lordabomity Holy fuck you're right.

  • Is "protal" an abbreviation for "progressive metal"?

  • Coheed and Cambria? Wow, we are stretching now.

  • The closing theme is just EXACTLY sounds like Iron Maiden's Wasted Years.

  • Archetype = 7

Beyond Twilight = 9,5 (This song is from "Section X... but my favorite album is "For the Love of Art and the Making" is simply superb!)

    Chrome Shift = 7,5

Coheed and Cambria = 6 (Welcome home is the only one song a little bit progressive in the thei whole career)

    Eternity X = 5

  • FII wasn't that great, but it's not like it was their fault. They had to fufill their record company's contract, which wanted a more accessible album from them, so they had to literally shorten and dumb down half the songs that were on the CD. I think later on they released what was actually supposed to be FII, and I hear it's actually really good.

  • COHEED and CAMBRIA is not Prog. Metal

  • but they are progressive

  • for your age, but i am 14 and they rock

  • oh fuck off. They don't suck at all. They are a great band. Yeah, they can be somewhat poppy at times, but their music is definitely technical enough to be considered prog. Just because Claudio sings in a ridiculous falsetto, he doesn't sound gay, especially in comparison to singers like James LeBrie.

Overall, they are definitely a respectable band.

  • yes but queensryche and tool are more progressive

    and fates warning

  • Welcome Home is the only song by them I would qualify as prog metal. Everything else, prog rock, probably.

  • @cotton3434

Yeah I was a little if-fy at first

  • @cotton3434 yeh i couldn't agree more with you..

i think Coheed have a strong resemblance to Mars Volta

  • Yeah that was what I thought when I first heard Mars Volta.

  • q buenos q estan estos compilados de metal progresivo, personalmente me gusto mucho archetype

  • LOL Coheed.

Not a hardcore fan, but Welcome Home is a fucking epic and awesome song. Other stuff i've heard from them sounds rather emo and poppy to be honest.

  • Yeah I kind of regret putting them in there a little. Not very progressive.

  • @DTkeysplayer16 It's okay. I dig that you post this stuff... it's helping me "discover" more prog-metal bands! Thank you.

  • @DTkeysplayer16 You shouldn't. Your videos are very good because you're not in the progressive metal mainstream all the time (and because you put A LOT of different bands). C&C can fit in those playlists. Yes, they are most of the time more poppy, it is true. Some other protal bands are more power/speed metal styles with boring singers/themes/lyrics too. C&C can be very proggy/conceptual with long songs and have also the metal sound. Light and Glass, Willing Well I, Guns of Summer... Proggy.

  • @DTkeysplayer16 For you to say they're not progressive is ridiculous. Listen to the different sounds on each of their albums. They are VERY progressive. Prog isn't defined by its odd time signatures.

  • @TakeHold0fTheFlame It's not that tey're songs are emo, they all follow a story. Many emo-sounding themes are following a story of things characters are doing. Plus, there are way more songs by them that are better than Welcome Home. But because that song was on Rock Band, everyone seems to wanna listen to only that song by them. Check out The Crowing by them, amazing song. Or, if you do like some pf their heavier stuff, look at No World For Tomorrow.

  • @Yrpffx21234 You can tell a story in lyrics without the melody and music sounding emo.

See other progressive metal bands for examples.

  • @wcr4 I'm not saying that. I love progressive metal. I know there are a ton of great bands outs there in the same genre, but I don't seem to understand why everyone classifies Co&Ca as emo, when most people that do never listen to them.

  • OOOO...coheed and cambria

  • i only go for good metal...not "i think im good metal"

  • who says they cant be one in the same

  • hmm.....dunno =D

  • HAHAHA OMG! I'm making a list of bands to make and right before I got to this i remembered BANG CAMARO! and then i clicked on this and what do i get? badn camaro.. :D

  • wheres the Protest The Hero?

  • indeed

  • dude, your lists suck

you missed bands like Nighingale, Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Riverside, even amorphis could be in these lists

  • charlesajones i agree with you on the most part about dream theater...but i have to say for 5 years of planning a cd paradise lost was crap...there were few good songs and with symphony X's talent are capable of much more. But make a good point

  • Chromeshift sounds really great!

But its sadly hard to find, as alot other progressive bands.

  • Yeah I do the best I can

  • I wouldn't say DT sucks now, but they're certainly nowhere near as good as they used to be. They just don't seem to be able to compose as good music anymore. Or they just don't care enough to. I think this business of "lets make it all up in the studio and record it immediately" is hurting them. Good Prog Metal takes planning. Michael Romeo was working on Paradise Lost for 5 years.

Anyway, check out Suspyre - When Time Fades and A Great Divide. My favorite band.

  • It's missing PoS, they're my favourite prog band :( *used* to be DT, but their latest work sucks... That aside I think PoS are way better anyway.

... also missing Ayreon, for that matter of fact. And I'd nominate Frameshift, Dreamscape and Vanden Plas as well.

Oh, and I don't like death metal either, but I got used to Opeth... You might give their album Damnation a try; that one doesn't really have much of the death in Opeth's prog death style.

  • Alright sweet. I do listen to a lot of those bands i just haven't got around to putting them in a video.

  • Why do you say that about DT's latest work?

  • For one thing, I think Octavarium is crap and I think many DT fans will agree. It con$i$t$ of their weakest $ong$ to date. Thi$ include$ their Let'$ make another 9/11 $ong, their let'$ $ound like U2 $ong and their eponymous epic let'$ write a 5 min $ong and see if we can $tretch it to 20 min. to make people think we wrote another A Change of Seasons.

$y$tematic Chao$ wa$ much better than Octavarium, but $till con$iderably dumbed down from their earlier work.

  • Um I guess that's you personal opinion. I think systematic Chaos was better than Octvarium but I still think Octavarium was good. You have to understand the messages in DT songs and hear about how they make stories or tragedies that play out through many songs.

  • Well, you may agree or you may not, it's a matter of taste I suppose. For me, I've listened to all DT albums dozens of times without getting bored. All except Octa and SC.

Octavarium got boring really fast for me, and though I *LOVED* SC at first, I found the instrumentals of most (not all, but most) tracks too repetitive to keep me interested for very long. The lyrical part is purely a matter of taste, but I personally prefer their earlier work to SC.

  • For me, Octavarium is one of the greatest albums in the world. The title track itself is easily one of the greatest songs ever written, if not THE greatest. Systematic Chaos is a neat album. I got it on July 4 2007 and still bust it out every so often. Good stuff.

But, getting right to the point, I'd cite Octavarium and Scenes From A Memory as my two favorite Dream Theater albums, bearing in mind that anything by Dream Theater is pure gold. No arguments there. :)

  • You're right no arguments there! I like Images and Words the best.

  • Lmao dude...U dont know shit about octavarium...not trying to insult u or get u angry, ill send u a message with some info on the album and ull see that its not crap, but rather one of the greatest pieces of music all put together to date.

  • Whoa are you talking to me?

  • nope...was talking to moneymail...peace out

  • Oh ok. Sorry.

  • np dude..nice vid btw

  • i personally think that systematic chaos is their second worst album, followed of course by falling into infinity

  • I personnally loved the record. I wasnt a big fan of Faliing into infinity, A change of Seasons or Awake. They were good albums but just not good enough for DT

  • huh? awake, acos (song), fii are not good enough for DT? ... i sense the correleation between opionions and onions.

  • Awake is blatantly one of DTs best records

  • The glass prison is my favourite DT song, by a long shot.

Blind faith and awake are great to.

  • Alright everybody. I have heard requests for other bands. I have taken note and when my computer is fixed I will put them in a video.

  • This is the third video Ive seen of this series you have made. It seems interesting how you went with some of the absract prog bands in this video, I was happy to find you included Beyond Twilight, that band is fucking awesome. However I think Coheed is beyond annoying, just my opinion do not take it personal. I dont understand why Opeth is in a lot of your comments, they are not in this video, why argue about them?

  • It's not because they're in my videos...People are wondering why they aren't in them

  • don't forget sieges even ;)

  • opeth is a power metal band my friend :) not a progressive

  • No man Opeth is Progressive.

  • not power nor prog. they said themselves they are by now, an experimental band. in the begining they were prog death or somethin' but i think their style is unique, a sort of tech/death/prog band, or something like that :)

  • Opeth is metal, classic rock, prog, folk and free form jazz combined, awesome mix, truly unique. :D

How come there is no PoS in any of these vids ? Pain of Salvation is by far one of the best prog metal bands on earth. Daniel Gildenlöw has the greatest voice I have ever heard.

Nice vid, prog forever ! :D

  • Archetype sounds good!!!

  • symphony x, andromeda, circus maximun, shadow gallery, spiral architect, blotted science, treshold, dalis dilema, archetype, planet x, dream theater, pain of salvation, beyond twilight. ¡¡¡the bast progressive bands ever!!!

  • WHERE IS OPETH !

  • you should check out 3 they're coheed but better

  • I saw them in concert with Dream Theater and Opeth. They were pretty good. I have found Coheed & Cambria's other stuff isn't as awesome as Welcome Home.

  • yeah must of Coheed's other songs are far too poppy

  • Coheed And Cambria? OMG...jeje

  • Yeah ! still so good.

Tracks are "long", it's useful to appreciate them.

Maybe a "Awesome Death Melo Metal Bands" part in the future ?

  • Sure man, I listen to some melodic Death metal. I'll work on that.
