  • I want Ginger Baker's glasses

  • Of course The Beatles and Elvis aren't here since their music had very little to do with rock.

  • Comment removed

  • Who doesn't love Keith Richards?

  • You wont' regret it, buddy. & Sretan Staru Godina za tebe!

  • Molim! Please don't be sorry 'bout croatian subtitles. Hrvatski rocks!!! It's such a beautiful language. Vrlo lepa jesika, lepa, lepa, lepa!!!!!

  • @starbleach It really does look beautiful, I found myself more into the subtitles than to the story at some point - I'm Polish so I even understand some of it. I've been looking for a new language to take up, and now I'm considering croatian!

  • keith richards, shut the fuck up

  • @TheBIgBarns You're a fucking moron.

  • What is the title song at the beginning of the show?

  • What is the title song at the beginning of the episode?

  • @johnypes The Damned - New Rose

  • @JustusGregorius dik the help of

  • Reminds me how nowadays, kids are listening to bands like Nirvana and the clash to get away from manufactured pop

  • where and what are the rolling stones playing at the end?

  • nevermind, just saw the caption

  • @Blinkyboy99 You're certifiably retarded

  • rock documentary starting with punk...

love the doc, but comme on that's pathetic

  • @Blinkyboy99 no, there can never be enough documentaries about the beatles seeing that if they had never existed, music today would not be as we know it, therefore they deserve to be credited in every possible documentary.

ps if your 18 why do you call yourself blinkyboy99??

  • Hmmmm manufactured pop songs written by songwriting teams in pop factories........ unfortunately that sounds all too familiar......

  • @Blinkyboy99 hahahahahaha judging by your name I'm really not gonna bother answering that "blinkyboy99"" remember: ignorance is bliss kid, go play hide and seek now

  • cual es la cancion del principiooo???

  • i say the beatles couldnt be "here" is because, the beatles had their own era and generation, apart from this, the beatles' "movement" was also on going,

  • fuck off, beatles surely belong beside rolling stones if you talk about genre

  • Keith Richards is the fucking MAN!! what a legend!

  • the documentary is about rock, as in the music that is at the root of rock as we know it today. the great american 50s rockers, while extremely vital in the development of rock, are, well -- think of it this way: how many of you would rather listen to chuck berry than the rolling stones or the who? 50s rock is for listening on special occasions; it doesn't carry the timelessness of later rock.

  • dennis hooper is a better narrator

  • this is shit. rolling stones are shit. they just copied the beatles. most bands did cepts for a few good ones

  • beatles were pop

  • CLIFF BURTON

  • For any body wondering why artists are not included in this

    1. Chuck berry went to prison

    2. Little Richard went to religion

    3. Elvis went to the army and movies

Hence the decline in which this Documentary picks up from that point........

And Finally Modern Rock (ie the rock discussed in this doc) is a derivation of blues not Rockabilly like Buddy holly big bopper ect..... Hence Guitar Riffs, Call and Response, Improvisation , Rangy Vocals......

  • They should have started out with Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. Mention that Elvis brought Rock to the main stream but also stress that in no way, was he an artist.

  • because they are everywhere all the time.

  • rock changed the world...literally... People who say they don't like rock are such bullshitters.

  • The Beatles are rock: Helter skelter, Twist n shout, hard days night, Ive got a feeling, WHILE MY GUIATR GENTLY WEEPS, its all too much...i could go on.

  • Birth of rock - Berry, Elvis, Beatles, Hendrix.

  • what is the theme song

  • i was surprised beatles wasn't a part of it either. but turns out there are two versions of 'birth of rock'. i'm watching the original one that's about jimi hendrix and beatles and such from piratebay.

  • if helter skelter isn't rock then i don't know what rock is

  • i dont know the clip at the very begining; but the song which starts playing few seconds into the show is my generation by who.

i cant imagine which producer put this up - beatles fill a crucial gap in the evolution of music; not even a mention.

  • Keith Richards is sooo out of it in this video...

  • whats the name of the song from the beginning??

  • Ya I just downloaded this mp3 at soundnabber..com

  • Divno, ima i titlove, juhuuu!

  • Eric Burdon is right, when i heard Spoonful by Howlin Wolf it sended shivers from my arms to my back ....incredible

  • What is the song at the beginning of the video i cant get it it sounds epic and thats just the intro

  • @UTFRG the band is called The Damned the song is called New Rose

  • @mangaspiked Yep, and it drives me crazy that these docos never really give the Damned their due when they cover punk. Nor the Stranglers...

  • @UTFRG

    @skurva6

    New Rose by the Damned

First British Punk single ever :P

  • Cool.

  • rock rules

  • @ijugo74 TRUE!, in the 60's it killed tasteless pop, 70's disco, 80's silly electronic experiments, 90's empty epic pop and now it'll kill cliché Run DMC & Sugarhill Gang ripoffs

  • I liked this series, and I agree that they are missing the american side of rock (Chuck Berry, Elvis, little richard), but how can you call it the seven ages of rock if you don't have the beatles??? why are the beatles not in here???

  • @mahueles the beatles was on it when it was show on tv.

  • @mahueles the people seem to be talking about rock after blues i agree that alot of people are not in this that shud be. but then again it says roc kand sum of the people consider chuck berry n elvis blues but i dunno

  • @punkrockenpunk I think Chuck Berry and Elvis should also be on this documentary, Chuck Berry invented rock guitar

  • @mahueles the beatles wasnt exactly rock...they were a combination of rock n roll and pop

  • @mahueles because if you know anything about music you would know that beatles are folk music

  • @UTFRG that is a very wrong statement... obviously you haven't heard songs like: Helter Skelter, While my guitar gently weeps, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, a Day in the life, revolution, etc. the beatles started playing a genre of music called "skiffle" then moved to a Chuck Berry type of rock and roll, and then to their own psychedelic style of rock. The beatles did whatever they wanted with music, they didn't follow rules, and correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what rock music is all about.

  • @mahueles Cause in that time they were considered what people considered the 'Backstreet Boys' in the 90's or the 'Jonas Brothers' today. They were a brit pop band up until Sgt. Pepper, but i get you, Sgt. Pepper at least deserved a mention cause, beyond any argument that says it's a influential masterpiece, it's probably the most reverenced record in the history of music not just rock

  • @AndreSiraSebastian I think that it's a very debatable subject (but there's no comparison to the backstreet boys, the beatles had brains :-S) but what I'm sure of, is that the beatles were a big influence on bands that came out after them: David Bowie, Queen, U2, Nirvana, Oasis, just to name a few.... this is the main reason why I think the beatles should be in this documentary, but they are not, it's still a great documentary...

  • @mahueles c'mon mate don't be a biggot about them, the backstreet actually cang miles better than the beatles and some of their songs were honestly shit others were quite impressive, the beatles werent here cause they didn't sign the rights

  • @mahueles they didn't sign the rights to use any of it; c. berry, elvis & little richard are blues, pop & soul, respectively, artists that wandered into rock but never really were even part of it as pop culture would force you to believe

  • @mahueles cause they suck

  • @mahueles beatles wernt really rock cmon cant buy me love does tht sound like rock ? lol

  • @mahueles I recall Sgt Pepper's being mentioned in this episode. But nonetheless, Beatles was more pop for most part right?

And about your "american side of rock", that is not rock, its rock and roll :P

  • @arhainofulthuan Yeah, but i think Rock as we know it would not exist if it wasn't for rock and roll, which also wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the blues.

  • @mahueles beucase there are many episodes.

  • @mahueles beucase there are many episodes. i dont know.

  • @mahueles Because Beatles aren't rock.

  • The Beatles werent included or Elvis because everyone knows how influential or great they are, this video showcases how rock moved forward from early day pop

  • @mahueles they were not really "rock" they joined in later with the rock movement.

Rock was about individuality and independence, the beatles weren't hard like The Who or Rollingstones in terms of attitude.

  • @pfl95 I think that Beatles at least should have been included in the Art Rock Episode... i mean Sgt Peppers and Magical Mystery tour...

  • @mahueles ironically enough, the beatles show up at about 0:04....

  • @mahueles they Beatles were pop not rock :) sorry (but a good kind of pop XD)

  • @darthesgoobis123 you could say the same thing about bob dylan. i dunno, i consider the beatles rock as a lot of their music is guitar-based and the "spirit" of rock is definitely very much present in their music.

  • @darthesgoobis123 Beatles not be rock??? The rock was also pop that age..

  • @mahueles

    The Beatles & Bob Dylan.

  • @mahueles Beatles are featured.. There's almost a whole episode around them... Elvis is featured to in an episode if I'm not mistaken... Before you troll you should find out what you're talking about...

  • @Broax Do you have the link to that episode? I said my comment because I saw the seven episodes when they aired on tv and I didn't see any Beatles on them, I didn't see Jimi Hendrix either, but some people say that there was another version of this episode that featured mostly Hendrix. But, you do agree that the Beatles are rock? because this discussion is now more about that, than the documentary... LOL

  • @mahueles I grow tired of these youtube debates so most of the times I don't read a lot of comments so I didn't notice the discussion was about beatles are or not rock... Beatles *ARE* rock... Period. In my humble opinion if a person doesn't think beatles are rock they don't know what rock is... Anyway... Strangely I also heard about being two versions. I don't have a link but I still have here the torrent... The first episode is almost only about hendrix some other has a lot of beatles too..

  • @mahueles its about rock not rock and roll and the beatles had good alblums but nothing really speacial until sgt pepper so they only incorperated bands that embodied the birth or rock, and in that aspect i would leave the beatles out to.but you are correct if they talked about blues origins the should add in chuck and others but its about rock so they started with the stones, the who, and the kinks.

  • @iamsofakingwetoddit1 but the rock history exists due beatles

  • @fcastro04 the beatles where at first a poppy blues band not really singing about sex or teenage fueled stuff the is about the seven ages of rock so thats why they left them out and like i said before sgt pepper made the beatles who the are and there other albums can be considered going with the times stuff they didnt get ground breaking until sgt pepper which influenced and forced ppl to focuse more on studio work so i understand why they did it but they missed lots of ppl.its only ten mi long.

  • @mahueles The serie lost quality from beginning to end... They don'`t talk about beatles. must be some mental illnes of the writer.. he probably don`t liked beatles.. there are 2 or 3 people like this around..

  • @mahueles There are a lot of documentaries about The Beatles, and you can't put everything in. Oh wait The Beatles where in the BBC version of Seven Ages of Rock, the one with Jimi Hendrix as the main focus.

  • @mahueles They're not really Rock music per say

  • @mahueles actually beatles are there, i have it....but this vid is not complete...check out the full length episode of this vid. its amazin!! \m/

  • Little Richard is a rock n roll artist...

  • hello there...do you have all episodes of the Seven ages of rock with Croatian subs....because i cant find it anywhere else in Croatian edition and I would love to watch all of them....i´m from Croatia so its a lot easier to watch with subs...so could you upload episodes in one piece somewhere else so I can download them or if not, at least here chopped to pieces...

  • So... rock started when England jumped on the boat? Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry were not rocking? Dear BBC, History cannot be rewritten so it fits with your national pride.

  • @mathieuplasse1 I think the whole series is meant to be from the British perspective, I don't think they are trying to say it started when the UK got involved. It should probably be called the seven ages of UK rock.

  • @tko1984 I think you're right. It should be called "the 7 ages of UK rock"... For the record : I think this documentary is still great, and the UK did give the world some of the greatest rock bands in the world (and that's an understatement!).
