I am not a huge fan of puzzle games, especially hard ones, but this game looked so beautiful I couldn't resist. I'm glad I played and finished this one.
The more I think about it, the more I realise that this game was clearly designed with multiple interpretations in mind. On the one hand, it could be taken at face value: an elaborate look at a relationship gone wrong.
On the other hand (as supported by the scientific references made in the epilogue and the game's fire theme), it could be viewed as, not just the creation of the atomic bomb, but mankind's endless pursuit of knowledge, regardless of the moral price we have to pay to obtain it.
This game isn't finding a Princess its about a Bomb! in this whole story that are pictures that point it out, even in the beginning.. 6:01 looks like a fire, or an aftermath of the ATOMIC BOMB! 5:32 1st word 2nd to last sentence, Manhattan, Manhattan Project, 5:42 it says "he kneeled behind his bunker in the Desert" the first atomic bomb was in the New Mexican Desert as a test. World 6 picture Uncle Sam in the top right hand corner and a explosion theres a website, i just forgot the URL 4 it
Yeah the bit with the midget monsters . . . one jumps up to the cannon behind leading a path for you but that never happens for me, been stuck at this for a few hours now :/
@highvoltage138 at the beginning it seems as though you are helping the princess escape, but when you get to her it turns out that the whole thing that you were playing through was time moving backwards and that you were the monstoer chasing her.
so she was running to him and not running away from him. Is that what all the fuss about the ending of the game is about, or am i missing something? i really was not that impressed
don't know if you know this but you missed one hidden text piece in epilogue :D it's "in" the rock near that platform, you raise the platform, then lower it then stand on it and reverse time to get you up with the platform and then jump onto that rock in the left :D you should hear a strange voice and a new text piece appears. i think there is another text box in the angel maybe i'll figure out how to open that one to one day oh and btw i found the hidden text box in the pc version of the game.
It's the song from Mass Effect when you open up the Galaxy Map inside the Normandy. The song is titled "Uncharted Worlds" and it's on the Mass Effect Original Sound Track (track #25).
I actually reversed the song, so it doesn't normally sound like that. The original song/score is great still.
This game is really clever. Best twist ending I think I've ever seen. When played first, the princess and you work together to try and escape the wall of fire, but when played again, you see that the princess is trying to kill you, whilst you prevent her from going back.
This game is beautiful in every facet - art, music, gameplay, and story. I honestly wasn't very into the story until this last level, it hits you like a brick and makes you rethink every single thing about the game. People that think this isn't worth $15 are crazy. It would be worth $60. Memories like this are priceless.
The moral of the story actually deals with human nature with obsession, power, mistakes people make that eventually can never be fixed even by going back in time simply because it's inevitable, the atomic bomb and hiroshima. The Mario theme is mixed with Tim (who represents Humanity). Mario is the hero who rescues the princess, but Tim is actually like mario but instead of the good guy, he's actually the bad guy. its only in the end that Tim realizes his mistakes. Theres more hidden stories
This game has a meaning that takes time and brain power to fully understand the story - this game isnt about whether or not tim or the princess dies, its about what they represent, why they are chasing each other and running away from each other, what the Princess actually represents is the Atomic bomb and Tim as humanity - humans try to get power and more power, just like Tim gets, and eventually that power gets too powerful and if it falls into the wrong hands, it would be lethal
NP this walkthrough along with some of your others saved me a lot of time and anger with these puzzles cause I love this game it's AWSOME but very frustrating
troll I thought you were right but I finally got it with a lot of trial and error I had to go back a ways and get enough space between me and the fire to make sure that I could pull it off
I just picked this up for the PC, and I'm convinced that the part at 2:53 is fucking impossible. There is always a fucking enemy in the way. If I just run for it, I run into them and die. If I wait, the fire kills me. FUCK.
That part can be a little tough. Basically you need to move as fast as you can through the big empty area leading up that part. Jump down lattices instead of climbing down them and dont stop for anything. If you really rush, you should make it to that part just in time to jump on the first little angry creature that hops out of the fire pit. If you have to wait for the second one, the timing will be off.
will someone please tell me whats going on in the very end of the stage. when he is in the cloud would after chasing the girl, there are book there that you can read, but there are also singing voices that change the words of the books. in that first room when you open the book dont get the key and start walking back to the ladder. BOOM. singing voice that writes a story. and has anyone noticed the platform that isnt effected by time, and the lever that lifts it. Please let me know.
I never noticed it changes the text. I went back to look and it seems that in each room with a red book, if you go behind the foreground without closing the red book, the text shows you another side of the story. The first room is easy. For the second, you have to reverse time after opening the book. And for the platform room, you must keep the platform up for a few seconds then bring it down, then stand on it, then reverse time until it goes up again. Then jump down left and walk behind the rok
basically there are 2 seperate plots to the game. the first plot is obviously about the girl. his need to have and control her. he is an obsessive person.
the second plot is about the atomic bomb. throughout the game you can find references to it and ESPECIALLY in the final cloud world. the books reveal the manhatten project without a doubt.
I have two theories on braid's story. One is simple and the other is a bit deeper.
1. Tim is trying to gain the princess's forgiveness for his lust for power and his "mistake" (the atomic bomb).
2. The princess actually represents the atomic bomb and is in fact the "mistake". Time goes back in time in hopes that he can prevent the creation of the a bomb, but he learns that he cannot undo what he has done (hence the final level).
As in interesting side note (and probably unrelated to the subject), David Hellman ( the artist of Braid) also did the art for a comic "A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible". What's interesting is that that phrase is basically Braid's theme.
this level actually shows that the protagonist is a stalker of the girl, and the girl set off those traps that almost killed him, its a weird turn of events
Me neither...it would be even better if you could understand it more. I guess you are not supposed to understand it but that's kinda' frustrating. That makes it lose a few points in my opinion. It's still a cool game though.
The ending is supposed to mean that Tim is actually the Villain. The whole last level is played in reverse, so it seems like the princess is trying to run away from the knight and is trying to help Tim out. But once you reverse time, you see it for what it truly is, as Tim chasing the princess and trying to trap her, and the knight being the one who saves her.
I got Braid for one reason: Out of this World. Back in the early 90's, you had no strategy guide to help you with these complex puzzle games. You had no internet. All you had was your brain, a controller and the game. I promised myself that I would NOT resort to a strategy guide for the entire title...and after 3 months, not even 6 hours ago, I finished this masterpiece...I hear there's another ending though D:
So why is everyone loving this game, i mean it's a cool game but it's 15 bucks and it took some fags on leaderboards half an hour to beat it? I mean 15 bucks for half an hour? (of course if you use guides)
Agreed. I personally didn't like the ending really, it was trying to be too arty and it didn't need to be, it was artistic enough without needing to have cryptic ending.
its not even the ending. theres a way to get to her, you have to have all the stars, to that the 2 levers are glowing. once you pull the second lever at 2:50 rewind to just before the previous lever and it should be pulled already allowing you to skip that lever and get ahead the princess when she walks up those stares and get ready to ride the un-falling chandelier and it brings you right to the princess. GAME OVER.
I like the whole idea of the ending being that when you play the sequence, you think you are trying to rescue her, but once you let time play in reverse (or as it should be), you find out that in fact you are the bad guy.
When played in reverse, it's the main player (Tim) trying to trap the princess. She goes to the end (beginning) and says HElp! The Knight Says Come down here! She jumps down and he goes up saying "I've got you!". The main player is the villain of the story. The entire game is actually played in reverse, storywise. Mind blowing!
Really? Albert Einstein? I've never heard that before, I'm curious how. From what I heard, this game is highly expressive of the creation of the Atomic Bomb and the Manhattan Project, possibly even to J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man responsible for its creation.
That's what most people say, I think it's the most sound interpretation. Plus I think there's some quote in the game that says "Now we are all sons of bitches", which I believe is a famous quote from one of the Manhattan Project scientists said.
You have to climb the wall at the end and land on that platform and she wakes up. Then you have to reverse time and that makes you go forward. You can't speed it up so you just have to hold down 'x' and wait for your dude to run all the way back.

lol at you having to resort to bashing halo. Its quite sad really.
STRING3R 3 years ago
I'm not bashing Halo, I genuinely hate Halo. It's repetitive, mindless and is entirely overrated.

he forgets the most important component in a game: FUN.

So why is everyone loving this game, i mean it's a cool game but it's 15 bucks and it took some fags on leaderboards half an hour to beat it? I mean 15 bucks for half an hour? (of course if you use guides)
Gnigr 3 years ago
i will guarantee you that if you play the game it was meant to be played, you will take a LOT longer than half an hour.

My best time is in the high 30 minute mark and I've played it over and over for at least 15-20 hours.
It's worth $15 IMO, there are plenty of worse games for $10 and I'm not stindgy.

The ending to this game is very weird
SergentSNAFU1 3 years ago
Agreed. I personally didn't like the ending really, it was trying to be too arty and it didn't need to be, it was artistic enough without needing to have cryptic ending.
3Z3K13L08 3 years ago
its not even the ending. theres a way to get to her, you have to have all the stars, to that the 2 levers are glowing. once you pull the second lever at 2:50 rewind to just before the previous lever and it should be pulled already allowing you to skip that lever and get ahead the princess when she walks up those stares and get ready to ride the un-falling chandelier and it brings you right to the princess. GAME OVER.
the key is the magical levers.
sandman589 3 years ago
Well it's all a matter of opinion really.
I like the whole idea of the ending being that when you play the sequence, you think you are trying to rescue her, but once you let time play in reverse (or as it should be), you find out that in fact you are the bad guy.
Wogle 3 years ago
the bad guy? *SHOCK* how's that??
ZShakibGO 3 years ago
When played in reverse, it's the main player (Tim) trying to trap the princess. She goes to the end (beginning) and says HElp! The Knight Says Come down here! She jumps down and he goes up saying "I've got you!". The main player is the villain of the story. The entire game is actually played in reverse, storywise. Mind blowing!

WOW well I better get a 360 and find out more by myself! since it's on the top 10 list games of the year I rly need to check out this gem! thx!

This whole entire game is an homage to Albert Einstein
abluecow9110 3 years ago
Really? Albert Einstein? I've never heard that before, I'm curious how. From what I heard, this game is highly expressive of the creation of the Atomic Bomb and the Manhattan Project, possibly even to J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man responsible for its creation.
deathwing107 3 years ago
That's what most people say, I think it's the most sound interpretation. Plus I think there's some quote in the game that says "Now we are all sons of bitches", which I believe is a famous quote from one of the Manhattan Project scientists said.
CommanderGene 3 years ago
Actually, there's a possible interpretation of the story that it's about the atom bomb.

Serious question: Why the fuck every time i escape the god damn fire wall the stupid bitch won't wake da fuck up so i can't run from her. Any tips?
Sveindog07 3 years ago
You have to climb the wall at the end and land on that platform and she wakes up. Then you have to reverse time and that makes you go forward. You can't speed it up so you just have to hold down 'x' and wait for your dude to run all the way back.
3Z3K13L08 3 years ago
reverse time to the beggining

it should say world 1 in the description, not 7, but great walkthoughs anyway, very helpful
kevinsomnia 3 years ago
Meh. It's the world after world 6 so most people would assume it world 7. Hope the video helped!
