Joe Brown was a bit before my time BUT I bought one of his records (CD's) and his singing is brilliant - he has a beautiful voice. Later went to see him at the Grand in Blackpool and got his autograph. he is a lovely bloke and he has many guitars - he had them all on stage with him, he is just brilliant. Thanks for the show Joe x
Joe's guitar is an ES 341 Gibson Stereo. It's basically an ES 335 but along with the four Volume and tone controls there is a selector switch which gives various stereo combinations.
Yes Joe did start his Live Album taking a leak. I still have a copy.
I saw him live last night in Potters Bar. Still sounds great.
Anyone know what the show is (the Black&White footage) from in this interview where Joe sings without guitar ? Or if its available? Go to hear this full song.
joe spends a fortune at the hairdressers, hes had many hair transplants in the last 20 years, i read that it cost him £8500 for a partial hair transplant and all the follow up treatment including specialist hair dyes etc... met him once in 1978 he was on the same plane as me comming back from germany, joe said to me, all right mush you after an autograph? i said no thanks and he said"good i dont get paid to give autographs" he had grey sideburns and streaks of grey hair that was thinning on top
That is true, I met him once in a Hotel health club and he had some strange cucumber and mayo potion on his head to stimulate hair growth. Plus he farted a lot. Really.
I don't know when this was filmed but ... doesn't he look good, he's definately well preserved, wonder what his secret is!!
Also ... on the B-side of one of his records is a track called Sicilian Tarrantella, it is just an instrumental, he played it at a concert I went to see, and part of it was played with the guitar on the back of his neck, it was amazing .... does anyone out there have a video of him doing that? if so please post it on Youtube !!!
Joe Brown is a legend! Together with Hank Marvin & Bert Weedon, Joe Brown was responsible for huge guitar sales in the UK. He inspired me to learn guitar. This was years before Eric Clapton. He's had an awful lot of tragedy in his life and i wish him well.
Joe Brown should be told . . . his "I Love You Samantha" is beautiful. If he released it again in the USA he could sell a million. It's a beautiful song and his arrangement is delightful, delightful, really delightful.
Joe always comes across as a really decent guy and is swift to praise others. However, I read an interview with Sam Brown once and she hintd that he has a darker side to his personality. All said though, what a musically talented family he headed.
There 's also a fine clip of Joe Brown at The New Musical Express Poll winners Concert from 1964, doing 3 completely different tunes on YouTube. If only the mainstream acts were into being as eclectic these days. The independent ones are.
Saw this and was blown away by the two songs he did. Can you post up these too. I'd love to hear them again. Particularly the one he said was George Harrison's favourite song.
Now, how come Joe Brown's a Lincolnshire boy, by birth, yet, he talks more like me? Ooh-er! Strange, that!
