You know even though I know that this version is inferior to the Super NES...I still love it because I grew up with it..Yeah some sound samples did suck but it grows on you,Scorpion has the throat-slice fatality (emitted from the SNES version)in this version, sounds samples when kill your opponents (kuddos to Lui Kang and the the ninja babes) are repetitive but funny as hell...To get the most fun outta it enter :Left,Down,Left,Right,Down,Right,Left,Left,Right,Right..At the end of the options.
@TheAxelay I grew up with it also because here in Europe everyone around me had Mega Drives and I had only one friend with SNES. But when I saw the SNES version I was blown away. It was perfect with endings, full speech, vs screen pictures, etc..
Well, at least, the Mega Drive version had Fergality...
Sucks the SNES version is better, because I decided to buy a Genesis and this game 2 days ago instead of a SNES. Still a fucking awesome game, though.
I still prefer this, and the 32X version to the snes one.
I didn't like the fact the company 'Sculptured Software' ported it, when literally every other MK port out there had 'Acclaim', 'Probe', and the great 'Williams' involved.
this is the best MK game in my opinion but this version and the gamegear version was awesome but they were no way near as good as the gameboy or snes or arcade
That cartoon version of Dan Forden was a cartoon painted by a son of a programmer from the company Probe Entertainment (responsible for the Genesis port).
The little cartoon image that pops up when it says "Toasty" when the cheat menu is activated, is a picture that one of the programmers son drew. So it was used in game as a little Easter egg.
the megadrive really sucks.. i jsut got it but thank god i always played the SNES version... animation of the whole game is slow/tacky.. and in deed the sound
@TotalMK I don't think the MK fans watching your review know what a real drumkit sounds like. If they did then maybe they would appreciate the awesome music Matt Furniss did in this game. Most people here seem to prefer that shitty Super NES sound where every game sounds like the audio was being recorded in front of a giant fan.
Being a fellow MK gamer myself and a drummer I really love the music to MK II on Mega Drive, love that snare drum.
@chachee99 Just get an emulator for SNES then download the roms although, Mortal Kombat and Mario type games are under copyright law is no worse then having burnt DVD movies at home. The whole copyright thing is more of a problem if your tryen to sell fake copys to people just the same as DVD, nowdays they really dont care if its personal use
THIS was the best version of Mortal Kombat 2 in my opinion. The fucking music is too awesome. Like the music when it shows who your next oponent is. And the character select screen. Amazing! The music is one of the high points in this game. I still enjoy the sounds to be honest.
The music was really eerie and unique and that was what really made this game. The sound was either horrendous or my ears are really bad because the screams and sounds of the body shots were so low. Still it was good for what it was.
Great TotalMK!, the reviews are cool and MK is great! Sega and SNES are great. MK is fantastic!, I have MK I, II, MK Ultimate on SNES and MK Trilogy + MK Armageddon on the PS2. And of course the movie (1 & 2). 2 is in my opinion not good, 1 is a great movie conversion of a video game.
Am I the only one that thinks the music on the Genesis version was better? The gameplay on the Genesis port was closer to the arcade and controls are more responsive.
Excellent Review Of MK2 For The Sega Genesis/Megadrive, I Agree With You, The Sound Is Pretty Bad But The Music Is Cool Though Nonetheless, Nicely Done 5/5
I really enjoyed MK2 on my Genesis, but every time I played the SNES version I just got really pissed off because of how much better it was. It always annoyed the shit out of me that MK2 (like MK1) was missing a large portion of the game audio. It was still a great game overall though.
Cool review! I think I remember reading in one of the MK magazines that the cartoony face is a picture of Dan Forden drawn by his 7 year old cousin or something like that.
The music in MK1 and 2 on the Genesis is incredible. Matt Furniss is an absolute beast.

7.5 out of 10 seems a bit harsh just because you think the sound is lacking. Should of given it an 8.

The Snes version of MK2 is better than Genesis version of MK2. But it loses to the 32X Version.

Probably the first game I played til my thumbs bled. Literally.

I STILL play this for the Genesis and I love it. I LOVE the music for the game and the gameplay is smooth.
I get the chills from playing the SNES version because of how good it is compared to this one but personally I like both.

The reason why the MegaDrive/Genesis has less sounds and voices is because the sound chip is limited.
Retro1Gamer 2 years ago
1. gameplay was shit - no low punch.
2. sound was shit as stated - no announcement of player wins or round number.

well if u had a 6 button controller it wasnt a big deal. But the sound was TERRIBLE.

The sound was awesome...and Matt Furnis did the music!

sure I liked the music. But theres a pretty noticeable difference in quality with the snes. IMO not trying to bash or anything.

That weird-looking version of the "Toasty!" guy is actually a drawing of Dan Forden that was created by his kid, if I'm not mistaken.
