Aye, the power systems actually failed in the end. The engine actually had enough grunt, but the 90 degree bevel gear we used to drive the customised fan wasn't up to the job and in the end failed. There IS enough air moving through the pressurised air chamber underneath for lift and hover, however a poor skirt design (it is a pre-inflated tractor inner-tube) meant it couldn't deal with the rider shifting his/her bodyweight and the low inertia throttling system caused the drivetrain to fail.
The hoverboard used at the Olympics in Sydney had a small drive wheel underneath, I think it cleared the ground when moving but if u leaned back you could put weight on it for drive and to tuen lean back and to the side to assist with steering, maybe u guys could look at adding something like that next,,,
Yeh, thats a good idea. Our design brief stipulated that directionality was not achieved by additional systems. The concept was to use an over-rated lift fan and a deformable skirt, allowing the additional thrust produced by the lift fan to be vectored simply by the rider shifting his weight... if you follow. It didn't exactly work (poor skirt design, faulty drivetrain to blame.)
Shutup its not about if its cool, its about if it works. I am a 5th grader, and I did my science fair project on hovercrafts and used something as simple as this and I got a second place award! So if you guys (Virtue) are about rich. Your dead wrong my friend, so just
Its not a product, its a 3rd year university project, but thanks for the constructive criticism. Watch out for this years 3rd years efforts, they look like they might take it forward another level.
its cool guys, it was just a uni project, we didn't have the budget or time to do anything fancy with the skirt and our brief didn't allow independent drive systems. Happy hovering virtue!
You got a lot of talk and no action VD. Rather a real experiment that doesn't work than a bunch of lame game videos from a guy who never gets off his rear. Get up and do something with your life. Just because you can get some simulator to do your tricks doesn't mean it works in real life.
You have no Idea what you are talking about, you have no Idea what I get up to, Each day I work on different types of projects and one of them relates to 'Anti-Gravity', you honestly cannot say 'from a guy who never gets off his rear', unless you have a hidden camera in my house watching me.
At least I have a life, there is no action to publically show yet, because things don't just happen just like that, have fricken patience.
Ok, how about this then: When you get REAL proof of something you did working, THEN you can get critical about somebody else's project. Your mention of anti-gravity is just more proof of my point. If you were really working on something like that I doubt you'd be posting game videos on YouTube.
As soon as you show something REAL that you accomplished, I'll give you a little more credit for accomplishment, but still none for class.
Nobody who has built something with their own hands would bash a project like the one presented in this video. If they were wildly more successful on a similar project, then maybe but probably not even then. Even if they think the idea is stupid, they can and usually will discuss it politely and intelligently to offer suggestions rather than undirected criticism. Or hold their peace.
Some day your parents will kick you out and nobody will pay you to play games all day. What you gonna do then?
hey its Makarov and his band from cod 6! XD

Good effort! I can't see where the lateral propulsion comes from though. I like the zimmer frame helm too! :)

That's a lot of noise and smoke! I wonder if an electrical engine would improve performance...

Calm down VirtueD! I know, I know, YOU know someone who has a REAL hoverboard (your beloved AGC) but let other people post/share in peace.

Yeah, let them make their 'successes', Hopefully in a Few Years you will see out in the public the Hoverboard I am talking about.
Cheers,
