  • vlady was a wings great and so was yzerman and i think its great that both their names are engraved on the stanley cup for the 98 win and number 19 is probably the nicest guy in the world its a shame he went to tampa maybe one day he will make back home as GM after Ken Holland is done we love and miss you both

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm far from a Wings fan, but Vlady and Probie are two of my favorite players of all time.

  • He walked the shit out of that carpet

  • Glad to see Vlady was walking when I 1st this on tv and now seeing it again makes me even happier. I wish he was still playing he'd b an amazing player for Kronwall and Ericsson to learn from Fetisov would b another great player for them to learn from too. We love u and miss seeing u on the ice Vlady.

  • Cheers Vladdy! - Sincerely yours, a boston bruins fan.

  • Who is cutting onions?

  • Vladdie and Probie! We will always love them in Detroit. RIP, Bob and Vladdie you are not forgotten...

  • я снимаю шляпу..

  • i have never watched this without a tear coming to my eye. i remember the night it happened, watching it on the news and going out the next day to where the crash happined to sign the " get well soon sheet" i miss vlady and the rest of " the five"

  • Not a red wings fan, coming from a leafs fan this is sad to see, one of the best hockey players cut short due to injuries from a retarded driver. I think its always sad to see players career cut short due to injuries an other example would be Pavel Bure

  • dude, if you don't get misty eyed watching this you aint a wings fan.

  • Look at Vladdy go! Work that walker! I'm so proud of you Vladdy!

  • Better not say that in Detroit, or you'll get your ass kicked.

  • Makes me cry to see Konstantinov after the accident. He was a damn good defensemen. One of the best Russian players as well. Detroit loves you, Vladdy. Forever a Red Wing.

  • @BuzzsawtheHedgehog. Well said. Hockey Fans Love him. What happend to him was tragic. But his courage, will and determination is incredible. God Bless the Red Wings and their fans for thier continued suuport for him.

  • I think his number SHOULD officially be retired by the Wings. Vladdy's memory will NEVER be forgotten.

  • @BuzzsawtheHedgehog It is basically, its still in the locker room waiting for him to return. Wish he could damn that limo driver

  • @serious789

True, I did know that. I still cry after that moment. ='(

  • Omg! You were there! Lucky! I can't believe it's been 11 years since that limo accident! It seems like yesterday it was on the news! Wings for life!

  • Wow I thought he was stuck in a wheelchair I wish he was still playing

  • next captains: Z probably cause he speaks more english than datsyuk, but Datsyuk is the captain on the ice.

  • @ovechkono you gotta get Nik to retire first

  • kingback I feel the same way, I wish we could fix it :(

And yeah, we had the Russian five and now the Swedes, who are awesome. Z for next Captain after Lids ........:)

  • everytime i watch this video i get goose bumps up and down my spine!!!!

    love and miss forever

    VLADDY #16

  • 19th srt8 year in the playoffs according 2 wikipedia... no doubt the Vladinator was a +60 in his final year... what promise he had... i still cant believe he didnt win the norris trophy that year. just imagine if it were still Vlady n Nik on the blueline. add in players such as Ericsson, Rafalski, Kronwall (Swedish Vlad =P), Stuart, n dont 4get the old man Cheli =]!

  • Vladi and JKronwall would be teamates.. some sort of nickname for the line.. no doubt.. getting Kronwalled and Vladinated.. common.. would be a dream team.

  • lmao.. word up blackice69th. that'd bee a sick combo. i also 4get 2 add in Jiri Fischer had he still been able 2 play

  • who knows what could have been if that day never happen. the wings lost a great player, but it gave them the momentum to win the cup for him. we miss u vlady!!! GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the wings, but if I could trade those 3 cups since 1997 for Vladdy and Sergei's full health, I'd do it in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

  • No doubt about that it's nice to see him doing so well. He will be missed forever.

  • This was great! I moved away from Michigan about 5 yrs ago so I don't see much that happens with the Wings live, but I somehow never doubted that Vladdy would walk again - he always had his own brand of toughness and it looks like he's kicking butt in typical Konstantinov fashion in the longest, hardest fight of all.

  • Honestly, I'm in tears! VKSM! Those were the days, the russian five. Now we got the swedes! 17 years in a row making th playoffs! Hey Hey Hockeytown!

  • Everyone who is a Wings fan misses Vlady. His career was cut short by a man who was driving while he was high. It makes me happy to see that he is walking with a walker. Especially since the doctors said he would never walk again. ♥

  • i have this as my fav because no one , an i mean no one, can ever say vladdy is not loved by all in detroit.

  • and many others around the world :)

  • I second that.

  • i third that

  • stf faggot

  • Thanks for putting this up on YouTube. I just loved watching Vladdy play! I only wish he was able to have a full recovery. We sure do love our Hockey guys!

  • i was there that night, absolutely amazing night, best hockey game i have ever been to!

  • let's go wings!!! common go frickin' crazy at the Joe!!1 people. LOUDER LOUDER LOUDER LOUDER!!!11 LET'S GO RED WINGS!

  • god bless thats cool.....RIGHT ON

  • Chills up the spine...

  • Wow, how moving. That crowd went BONKERS when they saw Vladdy!

  • Long Live the Vladinator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yet another incredible moment in Wings history.

    God bless him.

  • powerful

  • i was at this game and i remember tears welling up in my eyes when i saw this. that ceremony was one of the best events ive had the privelege of being at.

  • Have you ever wondered, that Wings haven't found yet the new Vlad? They've tried Fischer (all the best for him), Mironov, etc. and no one could do the job, what Konstantinov had done?

One of the Red Wings Legends--> Vladimir Konstantinov! God bless Him!

  • chelios

  • not even close. And it's not just Vlad we won't ever be able to replace. It's the entire Russian 5 as a unit, also Yzerman(biggest heart in NHL history) and McCarty (who got the crowd going no matter what and always took care of all the dirty work). Datsyk is really good, but he's no Fedorov. Anyway, we all miss Vlad and I wish him the best.

  • wings were awesome back then...and i was the biggest federov fan ever back then...but dont worry, we'll get there again...and make no mistake, datsyuk will be more of red wing and a better red wing federov ever was...

  • God Bless you Vladdie

  • look how much progress konstantinov has made since that tragedy ten years ago. what should have been the happiest moment of his life turned into a tragedy which he has to live with for the rest of his life, such a shame. He was such a great player and probably would be (if he were still playing) a future hall of famer. This all resulted because the driver of the limo was wasted,so this is another example of how drunk driving ruins lives.

  • yah!!!!!!!!!!!! vladdy

  • I was watching that from 6 rows behind the DET Penalty Box......I don't think there was anyone else that wasn't trying to hold back tears when Vladdy started marching toward center ice.

  • Vladimir Konstantinov.. I was tingling when I heard that.. one of the most respected players ever.

  • if that accident wouldnt have happened, konstantinov would be up there with pronger, lidstrom and neidermayer as the best defensemen in the league and the wings wouldve won at least 2 other cups.

  • I totally agree

  • Absolutely agree with you on that point! But look what happened also to Steve Chaisson and Dmitri Tertysnhy... such a shame. Konstantinov is at least alive, he can be grateful for that. But Konstantinov was without a doubt one of the greatest! Miss those russian years with the Red Wings!

  • Being top of +/- doesn't make you good. Throughout the NHL season, see the top +/-, and I guarentee for awhile, it will be some players who completely blow, and he could just been on a line with the best players in Red Wings history, so it's not hard to get +/- when you're playing with Larionov, Kozlov, Yzerman, Shanahan, Federov, it isn't the most difficult to sit out there and pass to one of them because odds are, they would score.

  • True, but you missed the part about him being a Norris finalist (the runner up, actually). So as of the 1996-97 season, he was considered the second-best (or at the very least, one of the best) defenseman in the league. Not bad for a guy who didn't score much.

  • Well said!

  • Holy shit, I didn't know Konstantinov was walking now and everything. I haven't heard any updates about him in so so long.

  • He was great....he was a true defensemen, and he wasnt afraid to knock the snot out of you. he wasnt swinging his purse at you like lidstrom and murphy

  • Vladimir Konstantinov, gotta love him, was never a huge Red Wings fan. But I was always a Konstantinov fan, very spine tingling to hear his name get announced, seeing him, then getting cheered like nuts.

  • Probert!!!

  • probert was awsome. fan favorite. i hear probbie had to get a lawyer in windsor and special help to cross the border to go to the game.

  • Yeah. Hopefully he can get himself straightened out once and for all.

  • fo sho

  • can u believe how far he has come from the accident he is walkin(with help from a walker) but none the less walking

  • Wasn't the bestest of players, but very well respected, especially after his fatal accident.

  • I kind of remember Vladdy landing quite a few monster hip checks in his day. Who is the "bestest" of the players?

  • Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, and I'm not saying he sucked, he was a big checker, but that's like calling Andrew Peters one of Sabres bestest players.

  • He wasnt the best. But he was a plus 60 one year and a nominee for the Norris in 97. So one of the best defensemen in the league would be fair to say. Not a great offensive force but playing with federov, larionov, and kozlov its gotta be some accident or broken play for him to have to take the shot.

  • The accident wasn't fatal.

  • I thought someone did die in that accident ?? The driver of limo ??

  • No one died thank God. I was going to say too bad the driver didn't die but then he would of had it easy. With him living, he will live the rest of his life with the crash in the back of his mind.

  • twfchamp02: AMEN!! That sorry cocksucker (the limo driver) needs to be involved in an identical accident so he knows what kind of hell our guys went through, are are STILL going through! Saddest part of all, this accident occured on a Friday the 13th!! :-(

  • Thanks.

  • @mrdavidjames

    Unfortunately he came out unscathed.

  • suite #33

  • That's from a suite right? We had a suite probly like 3-4 right from this one.
