As if Mr. Scary wasn't hard enough as it was already?! Friggin' George has to take it to another level! The dude is just to insanely awesome and a serious bad a** guitarist! My hero!
After all these years had this mispersception that a great guitar would make me play beter, just realised how wrong I was, so fuck-it, I NEED those pants, so shiny! :D
lynch is fucking amazing man never have i heard him have a bad night i saw him live with lynch mob shit was he in the zone he was like in another planet when it came for his solo time
Some say I have heard this and some say I have heard that/ Fuck you if you think you have ever heard better jams than Lynch is laying down..right now. The whole thing here is pure, yes pure ROCK AND ROLL. You know..the kind that could never die!
Lynch rules on guitar- he also knows how to Enjoy life, it's short! Don't let politicians tell you what you otherwise know in your heart to be true. Be good. let people do their thing, and don't take from others or think it's ok for the government to do so for you. Live up to your fullest potential...only YOU can make that happen, no one else can. If you expect others to do if for you, then you are truly a piece of crap.
i love this song. george should have used down picking though on the intro and the rest of the song where he could have. if you play it like that it sounds way better than alternate picking.
Eruption was innovative..It was written over 10 years before Mr Scary was written.
It's a bit like saying Robbie Maddison destroys Evil Kneival when it comes to jumping motorbikes......Without Eruption, there would be no damn Mr Scary.....Have some fucking respect for Innovation and Eddie Van Halen
Afterthought, whether a long-time supporter or a casual fan, do not overlook the relatively unknown Lynch/Pilson album "Wicked Underground." Guitar heavy Lynchwork, and Pilson is fantastic on rhythm and vocals. A worthy addition to any metalhead or guitarists collection.
I have been an avid follower and devoted fan of George Lynch for 25 years. To any newcomers or non-players, yes, this is a relatively sloppy performance. However, in Lynch's defense, it is also raunchier, which I think is intentional and indicative of where he's taken his "craft" in the past 5 to 7 years. Long recognized for being a technician and experimentalist, I think Lynch is now in a place where he just let's it rip. This performance feels raw but is very cool in its own right.
I hope a girl took his pants off that night because those are pretty gay if you ask me. Awesome guitar player and he's in my top 15 of favorite guitar players for sure
Eddie was the reason I picked up a guitar, George Lynch made it interesting and a lifelong hobby. Apples and oranges, maybe, but I'll still take Lynch.
I'm not a huge Eddie VH fan, but one thing you gotta admit, he doesn't just put a foot up on the monitor and stand still. Eddie always did have a knack for showmanship. He made it feel exciting, you know what I mean? BTW, I LOVE Mr. Scary and G. Lynch as well.
Before you talk crap about Eddie and go back and listen to some of his rhythm work in addition to the many ridiculous solos. The Ice Cream Man solo is ridiculous! Drop Dead Legs, man! If you don't play guitar your opinion does not count. It's like a person who has never played golf talking about hitting the perfect drive. You have no perspective. Eddie was on another level, like JImi.
is there a video (tape) out there of george lynch playing an inflatable guitar as a comedy bit...i vaguely remember a clip from a Dokken compilation that had some funny bits...
wow, if there ever was a Terminator made to play guitar, George is model T1,000,001!!! He effin' great!! Thanks TTHERROR for posting this! This video took me out of a funk...now I want to break something and burn it.
George Lynch and Randy Rhoads IMO are the only guys in the early 80's that hung with Eddie Van Halen note-for-note and managed to come up with as good or better licks even, and definitely far more creative soloing than EVH I don't care what ANYONE says....
ive listend to about every performance available here on youtube, and i must say, this one is the best of them all. lynch is sick, not to mention around 20-30 secs into this he drops his strap and leans on the dam monitor playing strapless for the rest of the song. and the sychronization of Him and band from 2:54 to about 3:29 is priceless/... GOod shyt all the way through..
Not all juice makes you a massive. From the looks of it and from my experience, at his age he was most likely on a low dose (one injection, not 2) of Test E or P per week, maybe sustanon 250. Def a low dose though, cuz he's not retaining alot of water. He did lots of cadio. But at his age? juice? YES!!! People need to understand there are hundreds of steriods out there, not all make you huge and you can take them in a number of doses and stacks. Lynch=Test , clenbuterol, cardio and cigs!
Better than Eruption? Not really. Not to mention it was released 9 years after which means this song never happens without Eddie introducing the world to Eruption. Love this tune but pay Ed some respect, most of these licks are from the EVH school.
@mgs316 Lynch has been playing bands since the 70s himself, and his sound was pretty distinct even then. There's a clip on youtube of Dokken playing in the mid/late 70s, if you can find it. I can't remember what to search for. He's always sounded more or less like this, which is pure sex. The part from 2:50 -> in this clip is ridiiiculously awesome :D
Van Halen did revolutionize rock with Eruption though, I agree with that. Tapping certainly entered the stage because of that song, hahah.
sure hair metal sold their artist intergrity but at least they could fucking play their instruments! and to make it clear, dokken is not one of those hair metal bands who "sold out"
I hope u know that eruption wasnt even a written thing or an improv... it was evh's warm up. gtfo with any sentence that involves something better than evh. shame and u scrubs. george is great but dont do that comparison thing cuz come on really.... dont even bring the god -EVH into this.
That just doesn't sound right. I read once that Lynch said for Scary to come across right it should have like 4 guitars going live. Don should have played rhythm on it....sounds kinda hollow.
80s Greats: George lynch, Jake e. lee, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vito Bratta, Eric Peterson, Dan Spitz, Eddie Van halen, Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Hannon, Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Criss Olivia, who else
@rhysyboy96 it's kinda starting to come back, except that most of the kids of my generation cant do some of the hybrid styles w/o sounding like boring NAMM wanker garbage.
Arnold Swarzenegger can play the guitar like that? This must have been before he became the Governor of California. I could tell by his size this must have been after the 1st and 2nd Terminators. Bodybuilding, acting, businesses, bagging hot women, playing guitar and becoming Governor. I guess there's nothing he can't do.
Man, the part starting at 2:53 is one of the most amazingly awesome improvisings I've ever heard from a guitarist. It's so ridiculously awesome!

@fivestarkid03 Don't do that. Eruption was and is still great. Two different guitarists, two different styles, both of them amazing. Those kinds of comments are ignorant. You're not ignorant, are ya?
Regarding your comment that this destroys, did you know that this video is 30 years after Eddie came up with Eruption and the only reason Lynch, who l am a big fan of, is playing like this is because of what Eddie pioneered as a guitarist? :-)
@wfonow41 Too many people don't have rights now a days to set a hand on a guitar....cus 90% of them don't know how to play. They're trapped in the box....the radio box. Sacrifice artistic integrity for the holy dollar. Way to go american teeny boppers. Bash 80s hair metal all you want. Jealousy is a bitter pill, and Mr Scary will deliver it.
@wycked40 I agree,These Kids Now a Days want to go to a Pawn Shop and Buy a $200 Guitar Learn a Few Bar Chords andMake it Big,But there Missing everything that Matters,Which isLead guitar playing that people who grew up with this music as being there roots such as myself,When I Played guitar everything was complex,Due to the Rippin Lead Solo's,Then all that Altern. Shit came in and they done away with Great Lead playin, because they suck,Not 1 guitarist from Alter. made a name for themselves
@chadmbedwell most players of my generation just focus on that wanna-be Yngwie style, which is fine and dandy. but most of them can't play the blues. you have to REALLY work at it if you want to be very good.
@wycked40 not just the radio box, but the pentatonic box also. if you want to be really good, you have to learn how to play outside of the box. George does it with such finesse.
@wycked40 Absofuckinlutley, So Many Young Punks out there,That would go Buy a Telecaster or Strat and want to Learn a few Barchords and make it Big from a one hi wonder song,When they Really Know they are way in over there head and Can't Deliver nothing else because they truly Sick and they Know it.It's Reallt Pathetic,Coming up in my ERAwith the Hair Bands there was nothing but complex lead and Rhythm Guitar Playing you had to learn,Which makes a certain Gener. better players because of that.
@wycked40 There is more talented musicians now than there ever was. Sheer numbers bro. They are also MUCH easier to find. Granted there is also much more shitty radio music but any true music lover will now how to find the good music. The 80's were great but that doesn't mean everything else sucks. Get with the times man and start researching music a little more... you might be surprised.
I just saw him in Seattle in August with Michael Schenker.. After he got warmed up ...no holds barred.. He really works hard at playing his music and putiing on a good show..
imo this is the best live version, at 2:50 when he start soloing again i feel like i can't breath and he's sucking all the air out of my Lungs the bastard.
Some things to come on my mind watching this video:1.90's Grunge and ''Alternative'' bands screwed up rock big time,2.Mr.Lynch kicks MAJOR ASS on guitar no matter what some noobs say here and 3. This guy must be doing some serious workout!
WOW, he was pulling some damn going legato tapping licks out there. I dig a lot of those type of runs from George. I don't know why but George is like a Marshall amp, you never know if you are going to get the good, the GREAT, of the piss poor George. Tonight sounded like the almost great George. Great video.
I don't really see why people think this is bad. It's one of my favourite versions of Mr Scary out there, and I've seen most all of them. He should've added a bit more delay and gain for the "classic squeal sound" perhaps, but that's about it.
I totally love when he starts playing around 2:30.
Love it there's My Guitar only Diffrence,I have the Skull n Sword inlays,Bad Ass Guitar Bought mine Back in '92' Still Rocking with it,Looks Brand New Like it did the Day Ii Bought it and Now I have the Skull n Bones,LOVE them Both!!!!!!

Shit came in and they done away with Great Lead playin, because they suck,Not 1 guitarist from Alter. made a name for themselves
chadmbedwell 1 year ago
@chadmbedwell most players of my generation just focus on that wanna-be Yngwie style, which is fine and dandy. but most of them can't play the blues. you have to REALLY work at it if you want to be very good.
zls9890 1 year ago
@wycked40 not just the radio box, but the pentatonic box also. if you want to be really good, you have to learn how to play outside of the box. George does it with such finesse.
zls9890 1 year ago

Considering that the studio version has AT LEAST 5 tracks of guitar; I'm surprised he can do this shit at all. Class act, all the way.

WOW, he was pulling some damn going legato tapping licks out there. I dig a lot of those type of runs from George. I don't know why but George is like a Marshall amp, you never know if you are going to get the good, the GREAT, of the piss poor George. Tonight sounded like the almost great George. Great video.

I really hated to see them break up. I was floored when I first heard this song.
Rothman777 1 year ago
I don't really see why people think this is bad. It's one of my favourite versions of Mr Scary out there, and I've seen most all of them. He should've added a bit more delay and gain for the "classic squeal sound" perhaps, but that's about it.
I totally love when he starts playing around 2:30.
