The day this story broke I was driving south on I-5 to L.A. and pretty much all I could get on the radio was Laura Ingraham. What I heard was the most hateful, vitriolic, rush-to-judgement ever. The tone of her voice was so awful, so dripping with self-righteousness. I haven't listened since but I suspect that great, big, shiny cross she always wears is just a prop. Anyone with any spirituality would not act as she does, and they surely would have spent the entire next show trying to atone.
For more than 60 years ABC, NBC, and CBS ruled the nightly News on a NATIONAL level, America was manipulated and they became overconfident in their ability to blackout stories they did not like. @DanMonDab I think the point you are avoiding is that as a news organization, FOX has an obligation to research their stories and accusations before airing them non-stop on every news and commentary program they run in a 24-hour cycle. Dan Rather lost his job for failing to verify a story, FOX News does it repeatedly, and then, as in this case, refuses to be accountable for bringing attention to a hoax to begin with.

That's very poor and misinformed logic. I encourage you to read up on what ACORN actually does. Voter drives in poor neighborhoods was just one aspect of what they were about. They were an organization that helped in various ways to try and improve the lives of those who were in poor and impoverished areas of this country, urban and rural, regardless of race or background. There are other groups out there just like them, and hopefully will be able to avoid Fox's hatemongering in the future.

The day this story broke I was driving south on I-5 to L.A. and pretty much all I could get on the radio was Laura Ingraham. What I heard was the most hateful, vitriolic, rush-to-judgement ever. The tone of her voice was so awful, so dripping with self-righteousness. I haven't listened since but I suspect that great, big, shiny cross she always wears is just a prop. Anyone with any spirituality would not act as she does, and they surely would have spent the entire next show trying to atone.

For more than 60 years ABC, NBC, and CBS ruled the nightly News on a NATIONAL level, America was manipulated and they became overconfident in their ability to blackout stories they did not like. Fox nexs has been around about 12 years and they have been number one for more than 100 months in a row. Fox news shines a light in the darknes of LIBERAL IGNORANCE! The reporter who broke this story was set up (he took the bait) who wants to bet on who set him up? White House? MSNBC? DNC? not FOX!

Yeah, ok because I mean aster all the leftist media never distorts or slants anything at all do they? Andrews big sin really was not clarifying the target of the report, not the report itself. However MSNBC deliberately cropped a video to portray a person as a white racist with a gun when in fact it was a young black man. That's only one example. Boy are you guys happy to have something new to chew. Too bad it's in the same old crap.

@drhu You name a single example of MSNBC doing something misleading, I could name twenty examples of FOX running with an unverified, false story just in the last month. At least MSNBC apologized and retracted with lengthy reports of their error. FOX News shows zero accountability for running with their stories as in this case when they blame administration officials for firing the woman as their basis for jumping the gun, not admitting that they were running the story for hours prior! Biased?

Media Matters is questioning someone else's credibility? What a laugh. They are a left wing outfit funding in part by George Soros, laundered through groups like the Tides foundation.
Fact - the NAACP had the ENTIRE interview, yet fired this lady to try to smear somebody. And our president (who I voted for) backed them up. This was a sloppy smear job. Fox didn't fire anyone.

Everyone else has apologized to Shirley Sharrod. Now it's time for Breitbart to apologize to her personally since he's the man who caused all this in the first place (by uploading a video that made it look as though she were racially biased when in fact she was urging the audience to look beyond race--a thoroughly fraudulent video).

I really enjoy how everyone is trying to blame Fox news for this. The report wasn't picked up on any media station until AFTER she was fired by the White House, not to mention the NAACP shunned her and it was THEIR video!!! You want to speak on telling the truth the tell that MSNBC also ran the story just as Fox did. Geez, you want to blame someone? Blame the idiots at the white house and NAACP for this disaster. Nobody investigated after they heard the white house had fired her.

The complete overlooking of the facts and the timeline and blaming Fox for the firing has got to stop from everyone though. All that is being said by blaming Fox, especially given this example, is apparently they run the country not the government.

@DanMonDab I think the point you are avoiding is that as a news organization, FOX has an obligation to research their stories and accusations before airing them non-stop on every news and commentary program they run in a 24-hour cycle. Dan Rather lost his job for failing to verify a story, FOX News does it repeatedly, and then, as in this case, refuses to be accountable for bringing attention to a hoax to begin with.

I cannot believe that you would use this case against Fox. Did you even know that the white house had fired this woman 5 hrs before anybody even reported on it or knew about it? That the NAACP spoke out AGAINST her? What possible rational thought process can conclude that Fox caused this?

@DanMonDab The white house, according to even FOX, did not fire her, the AG did, but that aside, it ws a producer for Glenn Beck on FOX that let it be known his show was going to lead with the Breitbaft piece that led to the AG's astounding rush to judgement. This has also been widely reported, just not on FOX.

I know the deputy secretary TOLD her she would be on glen beck, but i haven't heard where anyone from Fox news spoke to anyone at the USDA or AG office before she was fired, not even on MSNBC. Im not a fox junkie, i am a news junkie, so let me know where that was reported please. Thanks

Fox isn't news. It's a political hatchet machine. Don't think this won't happen again, and don't think fox employees think that they did anything wrong. The only thing they see wrong is that they got caught before any long lasting damage could be done with this. With their assault on ACORN, they did the damage before they got caught. And the accusations against ACORN were completely inflated, but once you get the story in the public's hands, true or not, the hate just runs with it. At that point it's irrelevant whether it's true or not. That's the point. Fox doesn't research their accusations. They're not interested in facts or truth. They're just out to target people.

Fox didn't "cover" it. They spent 7 months hammering it while other news stations were covering real issues like the falling economy. They began the story, and pushed it to their desired conclusion. That's not excuse, it's fact. You can go back and research the news feeds during 08-09 as I did if you'd like to. But I'm betting if your a Fox fan, research and fact finding isn't exactly a standard you're familiar with.

Had congress stepped back instead of joining in the witchhunt, they would have found out how much of it was trumped up lies. Unfortunately they found out after the damage was done.

I encourage you to read up on what ACORN actually does. Voter drives in poor neighborhoods was just one aspect of what they were about. They were an organization that helped in various ways to try and improve the lives of those who were in poor and impoverished areas of this country, urban and rural, regardless of race or background. There are other groups out there just like them, and hopefully will be able to avoid Fox's hatemongering in the future.
