The band got boo'ed because the festival --remember-- is a jazz festival. All the blues bands that performed there had all been low-key bands that used minimum amplification not to contrast too vividly with the acoustic jazz groups that set the tone and pace. SRV played full volume, sending a wall of sound out into the audience who responded with loud boos and hisses. Needless to say, this is where, at that moment, SRV was discovered by David Bowie and Jackson Brown. He's now a legend!

I read the liner notes for the album and it said most of Europe preferred acoustic-style blues, and when they heard louder electric more American-style blues, they couldn't take it. Thank God for the ears of Jackson Browne and David Bowie, though.

@metlahead6-Stevie's sound wasn't in his guitar so much as his brain and fingers if he played a $100 Squier-that was properly set up(Important!)-he'd still sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan-If you want to sound 'half as good' as Stevie, 1) Get some lessons from a good teacher, and 2) Most important- Jam, Jam, Jam! with other players-Good Luck! (I've got 35+years of playing, teaching, and repairing guitars) As far as gear goes, a Strat(Mex or Squier/copy) and a good modeling amp should get you close.

The reason they were booing was on a documentry on T.V i saw recently, they were booked to play at the last minute and ended up with a spot that was predominantly acoustic so it was a bit of a shock to some of the audience as they were not there for hard rock!! Still assholes for booing a legend.
