Emotional take? Slow your roll. The "All men are equal" line is in the constitution and we all know how long it took for minorities to actually receive their rights. As far as the vast number of denominations within christianity; these are divisions over "non-essential" elements of the faith, not the central tenets of it. When there is rejection of the central tenets, then you're no longer dealing with a sect of christianity (ie. Mormonism, LDS, Christian science, Unitarianism, etc.).
Regarding the vagueness or ambiguity of the Bible; this has everything to do with poor hermeneutics used in interpretation. There is a huge difference between exegesis and eisegesis. The latter being the catalyst for all of the atrocities committed over the ages.
The "abrahamic god" has spawned many religions. The Mormons use the same bible as christians with an addition. The Christians use the same bible as the Jews with an addition. Who are you to decide what qualifies as an "essential tenet"?

That was the custom in practically every culture at the time. You seem to forget that it was christianity that denounced slavery much later (see Jesus teachings on the subject, as well as Paul), and christians that were instrumental in abolishing slavery in America.

Religion does some people good, when taught in schools as fables it's fine, just moral guidance, so long as they know the facts science have proven and be decent people it's fine what else they choose to believe

Iam a deist which means I acknowledge that there is some greater power out there that people call God. I do not "believe" in God because belief is emotional not rational. Iam rationally convinced that there is a higher force out there.
So that means faith and belief are things I can do without.
