Of course there are sketchy people, but the community tends to drive them out quickly enough. ^^

i will definitely check it out. I met a guy on the plain to Copenhagen and he lived in Stockholm and i was telling him about couchsurfing and he was like yeah! " I have people couch surf at my place!" and so next summer I might go stay in stockholm.

Yeah - I have to be really careful because I work a lot, and I teach mostly privates. Man-to-man is not the kinda situation where you can just give them silent reading activities. :P

As far as requests - it's absolutely insane. I've gotten to the point where I don't "officially" host, but then I still end up hosting a few each month. I just don't stress about it these days. Enjoy it when I can, and forget about it when I can't. ^^

You really summed up Couch Surfing well. Not only is it a great place to help travelers, but you meet a lot of the local hosts in your area. You might even meet someone who knows a job opening and sets you up!
