I can tell the problem here, it's actually very easy most likely, the guitars sounds fine.
The drums, everything needs to come up a couple of db's, 1-2db higher in volume, that snare however needs to go down 1-2db instead!
Then you will most likely be alright, also considering using hi-pass filters on the guitars, at around 80-90hz that cleans up the lowend a little, because you need it for the bass and kickdrums.
The drums and guitar sound nice, but the mix isn't that good, imo. I almost can't make out the drums. The kick is virtually non-existent. A little tweaking with the volumes and this would be pretty epic.
what kind of guitar rig are you running to have such an aggressive sound?? I'm using Mesa boogie with Prs... what kind of guitar and amp, and mic are you using... killer hard sound
it comes with midi beats already right? I have logic pro 9 and wanna buy this program but i wanna midi files that i can just edit and not have to start from scratch.
Nice drums mix... I would put the kick more on the front. The snare sounds great!!!
And in the guitars, try to reduce the input due to it's saturating a little bit. Then cut off a little of middle frecuencies, and put the compressor to the output. :-)
Some boost @ 290Hz and 20kHz on eq and and 0.8dB attack and 0.1dB sustain on the Transient effect. These were on the SD top mic, the bottom has some gate but nothing else
Well, not only that. The snaredrum sounds way too loud.
Like if it is it's own drumkit, when its supposed to work together with the rest of the drums that are too low in volume, or as i choiced to put it. The guitars are too loud.
i know what i'm talking about. drumkit from hell does sound shit, it sounds so plastic and fake and thats why people always sample replace the drums on it.
I don't really like the guitar tone too much... I think that's because the thinner Eb string is used for most of Bleed. I usually have to change my POD tone to make it less "djenty" to make it fuller. I hate having to do that!
But your super djent was nice on your Lethargica mix. Nice and low tone.

@Reaper1984 Yeah, good points there. I was even greater n00b in drum mixing one year ago than what I am today.

great mix. snare sounds a litte off though.. try to add a little plate reverb and low some db from it :)

I agree with Branstock kick should be more prominent but great mix overall

can you send me your preset?

Guitars are SUPER choppy.... not the playing, but almost like a soundcard problem. Just doesn't sound right to my ears... ?
Either way, great job!

Thats awsome! very nice quality of the sound, what kind of soundcard are you using when you record?
Vargaath 1 year ago
@Vargaath just the basic Realtek HD Audio ALC883, nothing special

In this session I used just POD 2.0 with a preset based on a soldano amp model. And the guitars have lots of post eq.

this is amazing! i want pro tools, and a mac, and superior drummer
:(

Is superior drummer 2.0 an expansion of ez drummer or what?
morbida 2 years ago
SD2.0 is its own vst instrument but you can use ez drummer expansion libraries with it.
kodoku42 2 years ago
So the only thing you need to run SD2.0 is cubase or protools?
morbida 2 years ago
That's correct.

@kodoku42 is SD 2.0 better than ezdrummer dfh in your opinion?
los 2 years ago

Nop, not legal sorry..

DO you used this using the common Superior Drummer 2.0 libraries or do you use any plug in; sush as the metal foundry.
Thank you!
Branstock 2 years ago
I haven't used any plug-ins with sd2.0.

The snare sounds sooooo much better when it is with the music. Sounded pretty boring by itself. What settings did you use for EQ/Compression...?

Don't like the mixing.
Guitars are too loud, the drums should be heard more.

at least the bass drums

I agree the overall mix is quite rough. I hadn't played much with the mixer back then and haven't touched this session since.

well, now we can all go out and buy metal foundry which is tomas haake's kit recorded literally a month ago.
hooray!

sounds cool. if I had any criticism on this it would be that the cymbals still need a little tweaking. I can't wait to get this program.

ezdrummer actually has a 'drumkit from hell' which is tomas haake's kit sampled. just saying

I think on the album Bleed is only 115bpm if I remember right. Looks like DFH is clipping too. :P Have you tried TRack 3 out of interest?
mpeskett 3 years ago
No, I think not. I wrote that "mere" and "really faster" intentionally :D
kodoku42 3 years ago
Hmm... maybe it's the snare that's snapping. I'll have to ease the compression/mic levels :D
