  • Not to sound like a complete jackass.... but I only understood half of what you said... Can someone here please explain to me how I play this game? Cuz I'm trying to win a bet with my friend. Help is needed... Can I get a tuturial or something....?

  • I love the game, hate how it revolves around the six cookie cutter characters. Made it a pain in the ass to develop my own storyline. The mini campaign in the back of the book is fantastic though. Recommend the game to average players, but experienced Storytellers (Dungeon Masters)

  • Hehe! just wanted to say that in Swedish, M'holnir is prenounsed "Mjölner" ... Language outside scandinavie dont know about the Ö so much, but it sounds something like the "i" in "Bird". Mjöl-ner ... and where the E in "-ner" is something like the end of "dinner". maybe something like "Mjilnerr" :)

Just wanted to post it. Maybe someone already have posted it!

  • I liked the review. You made alot of the things in the book sounds really simple, and while you didnt LIE, you could have made things more precise. I'll admit, alot of things in the book are REALLY complex sounding for no real reason, haha.

I'd also like it to be known that you dont have to have a parent who uses "Sky" magic, like zeus and thor, in order to use Sky. But it does help when making the abilities stronger if they are associated with your parent.

  • The correct way to say it. (And this is a norwegian speaking.) Is Mjolnir. At least that is as close to how english speaking people can say it right. Since you guys don't have the letters Æ, Ø and Å in your normal, everyday speech.

  • "M'holnir"? It's actually pronounced MYOL-nir, or if you want to be really picky with pronouncing it like a Scandinavian, it's MYERL-ner or MYERL-nir, depending on your nationality (Swedes, Danes and Norwegians more the former, Icelandic, being more archaic, keeps the Old Norse pronunciation.

Sorry for the random stupid correction. Great reviews, though. Scion seems great.

  • Wait! Those purviews and epic attraributes are available to to any one's scion. It makes since for them to get powers like their parents, but my scion of Hel has Magic, Mystery and Prophecy. There are only a hand full of powers that are pantheon specific, but other then those, any oye can have any power set. (Sorry for my spelling)

  • Pretty sweet game. I've got a Norse Scion I'm using for a joint game, and I'm just starting a Celtic Scion for a solo game. I was really skeptical about this style of RPG before, but I love it now. White Wolf really puls it off. I'd play anything of theirs over D&D. It'd get so stale fighting troll after troll or whatever it is you fight in that game. My first game with my Norse character, I fought a tengu and it literally took me over 40 turns to kill it after cutting off its arms.

  • Perhaps the most poorly designed system White Wolf has ever produced. The powers are wonky, the packaged adventure has no consistency, and the entire rules-structure is out of balance. Instead of presenting you with actual challenges, they hobble you in every scene. There was no communication between designers here. None. Great /idea/ for a game. Horrible execution of the idea. But, since this was a throwaway that WW was only producing to test the market, you can't expect much.

  • I agree completely with MasterZenStorm. the idea and Fluff for Scion is great. The actual rules not so much. It's sort of like they took Exalted and smacked it around a bit with a hammer so it didn't fit together properly anymore. If you're not opposed to doing a lot of system rebalancing it could prove to be a fun game. As it stands I didn't enjoy playing it.

  • Psh. 15 isn't all that much. I've had to roll eighty before, in WoD.

    Savage might FTW.

  • It is S-EYE-ON, like the car. Now who's the jackass?

  • No, no it isn't. So apparently, you're the jackass. Well done.

  • Nope. Looked it up. Kurt's saying it right.

  • Im confused, are you trying to be ironic?

  • This game is pretty awesome. I am in the process of playing 4 differnt games of this. And one of them, I have already reached the DemiGod stage. With our group, we like to have fun with our characters and so my 4 differnt characters are: Jacques (my Voodoo con-artist) (the DemiGod), Bonkerz (my Greek frat-boy who the drunker he gets, the stronger he gets, Maria (my Aztek old, emo librarian), and Zhing Lao (my Japanese king)

  • Can this be used /w the new WoD and/orMonte Cook WoD? How do they balance the power considering your a god's offspring?

  • personaly i was sad that there weren't any hindu or native american gods. it also sucked that there was such a small number of japanese and voodoo gods. all the same this game kiks ass and i guess they can fix all that stuff with exspantions. besides i cant wait to give my game master even more grey hair as the basterd son of loky. mwuhahaha

  • I think they did that because people who still worship those gods.

  • Best game I ever played seriously.

They simplified the sistem so that it was easy to do any epic battles and epic stunts without rolling the dice 300 times over and over again.

Also it's fun to be the storyteller and narrating the absurdly powerfull effects of the epic attributes.

  • I've been following this game since its publication a year ago. I finally bought all 3 books and after I get familiar enough with it I plan on running my players through it. The concept looks great and very original. You play the children of gods of legend and eventually your character can become godlike in power. Great review.

  • No Babylonian Gods? No Celtic Gods? No Chinese Gods? Etc. etc. no thanks

  • They speculate that the Summerian/Babylonian pantheon will be released later this year in the Scion Companion. White Wolf has already stated that the chinese pantheon is one of the final 3 to be published.

  • I think they already released a supplement covering Celtic Gods.

  • Right man get out of your Archelogical ass and look at the GAME...if you want those god put them in. also if you look at the game there are suggestions that the Pantheons serve different people, so the Norse Gods could also be the Celtic gods, and the Babylonian Gods could be moonlighting as the Egyptian Gods. Truth be told man im doing a game where all the Player characters are decended from Gods who acended in the last 20 years.

  • Celtic, Chinese, and Hindu are in the companion.

  • Also, the latest part of the companion, Secrets of the World, gives guidelines for designing your own pantheons.

  • Do you review unofficial supplements?

Was wondering if you'd review such?

  • Good review.

I know you cant mention every litte thing in your reviews, but one thing i think bears to mention is that this game by no means is geared towards any kind of social, or political game, not in a deeper sense. The game completely lacks a Background system which in my opinion takes away a lot of the appeal of WW games.

    2€ given

  • the developers of Scion stated that this was deliberate. You are playing the children of gods and legendary heroes. As long as your concept is appropriate you can have any background you want. The focus is on action and epic role playing, not balance or keeping characters weak.

  • Good review :)

  • Why didn't you mention stunting? It was a big draw for me to Exalted and I know that Scion has a version of it. Stunting really help combat to be less "Attack him with my (X." which makes it a lot more intesting and epic not to mention the bonus to each level of stunt aside from the extra die/dice.

  • You always do a great job. Keep it up. (your voice sounds just like Jeff Bridges).

  • He totally does!
