Honestly, even if the jews in the movie where meant that the watching crowds in the theatres be sympathic with, they are not only unlikeable played, but real jews played them also!
Whoever knows jews in real life knows what i mean!
Okay, who here was reminded of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, you know, when Voldemort regained his body and, you know, said that he has been waiting so long to touch Harry? That's the first thing in my mind the second I first saw this scene.
Landa is a genius creation, loved by all, but would never be so awesome without Waltz playing him.
Ultimately Landa is in it for himself, just a nice country chateau and steady pay day. best scene was when he tells Bridigit to put her foot on his knee, awesome!
What I love about this scene, besides the brilliant lighting - makes it look almost like an old b/w war movie - is the look on the face of the SS soldier who holds Aldo against the wall... he's a coiled spring ready to do to Aldo whatever his superior asks, in retribution for the headbutt. Sometimes one can focus so much on the lead actors one can forget that without support from the "background" actors the whole thing would look fake and collapse.
In the screenplay, QT hints at a past relationship (of some kind) btwn Bridget + Landa. My explanation:not only did a woman trick him (RE: Irene Adler in Shrlck Holmes)but clearly may have disclosed personal info about HIM to others! Hence his loss of control + intimacy of the murder (in close-up). When L turns traitor (narcissisically believing the Allies would honor the deal), Aldo mirrors the prior scene + wounds Landa in an intimate way (again in close-up). Fab writing/directing/acting.
two things I notice in this scene 1: in the next scene Pitt is on the other side of the truck and 2: unless I am mistaken, and I could be Pitt says "los mit ihnen" as he's being shoved into the truck; A phrase which could be translated, loosely as "get off me."
Yes, the ending was far too abrupt and sort of off-balance... unless... Mr. Q.T. has a "sequel" in mind... I'm working on one - why shouldn't he? One can hope. I've read suggestions of a "prequel" too... interesting. Nevertheless, congratulations to Mr. Waltz on all the well-deserved awards, including a spankin' new Oscar. (Great tux... does the man EVER take a bad photo? JEALOUS.) Fantastisch!
*Spoiler* The headbutt was important to the resolution of the storyline.Scriptwriters call it the "whiff of death" a character has to have a taste of mortality so the audience can believe any threats (like the Bastards) could actually cause the character (Landa) real damage... which QT follows through with by the end of the movie. Remember Darth Vader Lives buttons? I propose a 'Landa Lives!' Sequel, anyone? Look for other whiffofdeath scenes w/ other character combos in the movie.
@duchaneaux there is probably a whole backstory relationship between them that we never get know about...I wish tarentino would do some sort of mini series and go into all these characters more...
I love Christoph! I can barely watch this scene though, it's funny as heck but when I hear their heads SMACK against eachother...I get chills...it sounds so freakin painful XD!
haha fucking legend mate, i agree, quite my favourite bit of the movie also, THATS A BINGOOOO!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!! crease up at that , me and my french mate do it all the time!!
Haha, you're not alone in thinking that. And I sure wouldn't have minded if he locked me in a room and demanded that I put my foot on his lap, then reach into his coat pocket. Just saying is all....

I loved that headbutt. First time you see Landa's veneer crack. Sets up what happens to him well.

This leads me to a question: Why did Landa choke Bridget to death for her treason but then later goes on to help Aldo?

I didn't like the headbutt. It made Col. Landa seems weak and inept...kinda contradicts his earlier persona. I would have left the headbutt out.
