I almost think things are tighter without Squire and the tempo doesn't drag (I think he's the one usually slowing things down). But the backing vocals are definitely lacking without him. The bass was much higher in the mix live on the tour than on this video and things sounded better overall. The keyboard sounds Wakeman used on this tour were really good.
Give the unique gift or rare 70s classic rock for the holidays!
Yes, A Celebration 1969-1979 2DVD set available at Tommygun Video, please see our youtube channel for links, video clips, more details. Footage includes live at QPR 1975, Beat Club 1972, Time & A Word videos, and more rare stuff from the 70s
@Nacho66 Actually, it's Jeff Berlin on bass. It was SUPPOSED to be Levin, but he came down sick shortly before the tour, and Berlin stepped in (and learned the repertoire in three days). I agree he doesn't exactly do the part justice, but certainly did a damn good job given the circumstances.
UNA GRAN CANCION, CREO QUE ES LA MEJOR VERSION DE ESTA CANCION, AUNQUE NO ESTE SQUIRE. DESTACAN BRUFORD EN PRIMER PLANO, LUEGO WAKEMAN Y TAMBIEN HOWE. EN REALIDAD CADA UNO MEJOR QUE EL OTRO
@lor682009 You are corrrect, I saw them in Toronto during this tour, the next day a local dj who had attened the concert remarked how Jon Anderson never sounded better..
Fantastic performance by Yes (even though They were legally obliged to use a different name A.B.W.H.) in their best line-up...moreover there's an amazing Tony Levin on bass guitar and Jon Anderson in his top form!! Thank you for this video!!
if its not squire its not yes. sorry jeff berlin i know you're amazing but it just doesnt cut it. mad props for learning all this in three days though
Not a bad performance? It is the closest version to the fragile record... All is on its place. I like this performance more than the Union Tours, in this record all is a little disperse.
skinnymulligan07, thank you so much for this video, my favorite Yes song!
Jeff Berlin was the emergency fill-in for Tony Levin midway through this tour because Tony got sick. This footage is from Berlin's very first show. He only had 3 days to learn the bass parts for the entire show, otherwise this particular one and a few others right after it were otherwise going to be cancelled. That said, Berlin sounds nothing like Squire but it's testimony to how good Jeff Berlin is to be ready in only a couple of days! This material is awfully complicated.
Hate the bassists muffled tone here. Squire had a nice Rickenbacker tone. This sounds like he's playing through a shoe box. Makes sense if it's Berlin, he always has that tone.
Funny to see Jeff Berlin playing with YES. He's such an exquisite musician. Like the rest of the Yes-gang. But I prefer Mr Squire. Still nice though...
Sorry but I have always been a huge Chris Squire. The album project was great but Yes will never be the same without Chris playing bass with his style and growling tones.
This video looks like one a mate of mine taped off the tv years ago. I remember being a bit disappointed as it doesn't have Tony Levin on bass. I caught this tour in Britain and Tony did a very 'Yessongs' version of this - much more interesting and dynamic to my mind. I have to admit the Yessongs version is my favourite.
i was born in mexico, but i grew up listening this king of music; i understand the music this way, i feel it this time, even thou im just twenty three, i always will love rock music, fine and great rock music...thanks yes...!!
I remember my sister buying the Fragile album in the summer or fall of 72. Of course at first I just liked Roundabout since that was the big radio hit, but once I listened to the whole album a few times I ended loving this and South Side of the Sky and We Have Heaven (may have the titles off just a little). Great album, great song.

This is Tony Levin on bass. I agree with others here; Squire is the best bassist for Yes. Plus he owns the name.
