my mate is starting to sell genuine 999 investment grade silver on ebay, if anyone in Aus is interesting in investing in silver check it out on ebay, item number is 320831504025
its a shame the TAX office didn't consider it an investment when i bought, they will sure claim it as an investment when i sell it ... unless i trade it for a house or something :)
When i bought a box of US Eagles the sender put the value as 500 x $1 coins (face value). Anything under $1000 is gst free. When i got these canadians and austrians, it was a little different as the canadians have a $5 face value. So the sender was unable to do the same thing. I paid GST on this batch of coins which added almost $3000 to the total sale, they were still cheaper than buying coins from the Perth Mint though.
Cool for the Silver Eagles. In Singapore I have to pay 7% GST on anything above S$ 400. Anything under is GST free.
My 'First Majestic' rounds were declared in full bullion metal value.. so I had to pay about S$ 59 in GST for 25 Oz when they were selling for US$ 19.75 per Oz.
Perth mint charge 50% premium which is not charged on coins from US mints. you are still saving 40% approx. You still have to consider freight and insurance which is nothing compared to the value of the metal.
Yes! i was taxed 10% as GST. I discussed this at length with the courier company who had no idea what was going on and trying to tell me that i had no idea. They did not believe that if i was to buy from the Perth Mint i would only pay about 2% over spot. they disagreed with me on that. I called Customs and spoke at lenght with them who refered me to the Australian Tax Office. They offered a solution which involved a one off hearing. I declined.
after i declined to fill in paper work with the ATO for a personal hearing i decided that if they were not going to treat it as an investment then neither am I and when and if i sell i wont declare it cause i now just consider my silver collection just that, a personal collection and i do not buy silver for investment purposes any more.... I have been forced to pay 3 payments of GST of now and its a lot of money. And the government did nothing to earn it as usual....
in future i will purchase under $1000 dollars at a time.... No GST is applicable on bullion imported into Aus under $1000. The customs website says that silver and gold of 99.9 fineness in bullion form for investment purposes is GST free. But then there is all this fine print saying you have to buy from a dealer and that you must be a dealer among other scam wording. A dealer does not buy it as an investment. A dealer buys it to sell on. To hold and sell at a later date is investment.
Nice, I think coins are the way to go. customs are a bunch of thieves, I think they also use them to keep track of who's buying what just like the Perth mint do. The government is probably trying to make sure they collect taxes on bullion sales.
Yeh sorry about that... i am using a digital camera and it uses auto focus... so it keeps focusing in and out slightly and makes that noise.... not much i can do about it and i would rather buy more silver instead of a camera... ;)
It's funny how A55... is from australia and he's getting maples and philhormics bullions, Your from the states and your getting Maples while i'm from Canada i'm waiting on my delivery of American Eagles LOL
I bought a monster box of Eagles through Nicole on ebay a couple of months ago but she used a different courier I think. She did not have to show how much she insured the package for. On the customs form she put down 500 x $1 coins as that is the face value of each coin....
We need a global site that we can all ramdown customs throat for GST. I am told the same that I have to pay (A Stella) I amin U.K and buying for investment. Man if you by into some ETF crap you don't pay GST.
Dude, that really blew my mind! You really loaded the boat, didn't you? That's quite the investment and puts my stack to shame. I hope to open that much on camera for my website someday. Working my way up from 1 tube at a time, to 2.... next stop, monster box!
Thank you for the excellent silver porn, and good luck on the customs claim.
Nice post. You should be able to buy yourself some fine things in the next few years when this bull run in PM is complete. Lucky you. any chance of a loan???

Since they are all coins, can you declare the face value of them instead of the metal value?

Not every day you get to open TWO monster boxes (and such beautiful coins!), along with some shiny gold coins.
I''d love to do that every day. I'd even take a cut in pay. =^[.]~=
