I saw this in a movie theater, with that deep surround sound that made the whole place vibrate. On the big screen it looked great and the special FX were only of a bit lower quality than STAR WARS. After all, John Dykstra was behind Battlestar Galactica too, which earned him the scorn and firing from Lucas.
i have come up with a scientific theory but i need some help to solve it.......i have posted it on you-tube site "portman questions panetta"........read my comments beklow the video.
I wish I had lived in those days when we actually had SCIFI!!!!!!!! Now the syfy channel (what is left of it anyways) is being replaced by the fantasy/fake-reality channel.
This also happened a long...long time ago, in another galaxy far...far away, with another very different...different cast, with a less...less demanding director and a very low...low budget.
@TheMoonchild1969 The budget for Battlestar Galactica was around 7 million dollas, that for Star Wars around 10-13 million dollars, as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong). So the budget wasn't low at all. And come on: George Lucas a brillant director? Tsk, tsk ...
yep, this is unbeaten !!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was all my childhood... and a few other series such as the hardy boys & nancy drew mysteries, starsky n hutch... 70s and 80s... that was TV...
I love the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica - my favourite science fiction epic ever!!! The "re-imagined series" is a poor rape and exploitation of the excellent concept of the original - it's not my stuff at all. This clip here is great! It focuses on the special effects and shows some members of the main cast. But where are the gorgious women? Laurette Spang, Maren Jensen and Jane Seymour ... they're just as dazzling as the effects!
@Z6U6Z6U It's fine that you like the new series as so many other fans. But for me it has nearly nothing to do with the original. That's why I cannot applaud to the new series. I will never buy a female Starbuck and Cylons who look like sexy divas. No way.
J'aimerais bien qu'ils repassent celle-ci à la télé.
I watched the original as it premiered (8 years old) and watched the new one as it premiered, I think both are excellent. The original for how ambitious it was and the new one for characterization.

It so weird how many different versions, professionally produced, are out there. This is not from the show and it's not from the live orchestra version.. at least not the one played more recently with the song writer conducting. Where exactly did this version come from?
@TB163 This is the original version from the Tv show. It's the full length version. Not the condensed 1min and like 31 sec version for the open credits. You should listen to what Williams does with it. He has conducted this in some of his performances and its really stunning to hear it as well. This is not from the Reimaged version that was on SyFy in the past few years.
@MADBLUETHANG the only part I liked about the Battlestar 90210 (new battlestar) were the look of the mk 2 vipers, & the look of the Pagasus. the rest of it sucked on toast. the only reason it did as good as it did in the ratings is that everything else on T.V. sucked much worse. lucky for the producers that there were no star trek series being first run at the time.
Know what would be awesome? Starbuck getting a bunch of people behind his fighter, with the assumption he needs a push. Then when they are all back there, he fires up his thrusters. Good times I bet.

One of the best TV intros ever made in my opinion, sci-fi, drama or whatever. TV's version of Star Wars.
