  • Just spine-tingling.

  • Jonny Greenwood you are a genius... and Thom.

  • respect

  • Jesus Christ, guys. You don't have to go check out his band. There's no need to get so distraught about it.

  • I have just watched a programne of Harry Patch. And this particlular Soldier from WW1 was a true gentleman and so very wise...when he said that war was "organised murder" ! if anyone would know it would be Harry...

All those brave young soldiers never stood a chance! and remember they were told they would be back by Christmas.....lies, God help the poor soldier who was badly injured ect, nobody wanted to know them....R.I.P. Harry x

  • am i the only one that thinks Thom Yorke ruins this?

  • @MarcsYooToob yes

  • @MarcsYooToob yup

  • @MarcsYooToob Yes you are the only one.

  • 11.11.11 x

  • Does anyone know if the Radiohead Harry Patch song can still be bought anywhere? Link on Radiohead website no longer works

  • Tasteful way to pimp your fucking shit band you fucking ghoul. Fuck off.

  • I was in Ypres on 29th September 2008. Harry Patch paid his last ever visit to Menin Gate that evening to hear 'The Last Post' (a local fire brigade band has played it every evening since 1918). The next morning I finally found my great grandfather's grave at Hooge Crater cemtery on his 90th anniversary. RIP to both of them

  • This is brilliant.

  • I wanted to 'like' it because of Harry Patch, but I don't like the song at all. I prefer my Dad's version, which is actually a song about him and not just a popular band wailing a song with his name in the title.

A Harry Patch tribute with a tune & lyrics: watch?v=_36DMDIBG50

  • @charlesgoodwin

Well, you obviously like more folky and straightforward lyrics, so why are you trying to like something that's VERY FAR from being even in similar genres of music?

  • @charlesgoodwin The lyrics are from Harry's perspective. It's also completely stupid to say this incredibly melodic song doesn't have a tune.

  • Beautiful, Harry dealt with his demons until he was a hundred years old then told the story of his horrors of when he was just 18. PTSD wasn't recognised then, He kept it to himself, suffered in silence and wished he had the help that we get now rather than the stigma of weakness that he didn't want to be part of, It isn't lack of morale fibre, it's needing help, god bless "Combat Stress" and Harry Patch, they saved my life.

  • Harry Patch, unique only in the fact that he outlived the rest. An incredible man none-the-less. May he and all those lost in some of the worst four years of humanity's existence never be forgotten.

  • Apparently this guy's teacher had no arms and no legs...

  • The comments below are hilarious!

  • this is beautiful

  • Stop arguein abou "Whe radio head came out." This song is based on real-lif arguements. These arguements bewteen countries caused millions of peoples lives to be destroyed, and their families have too put up with that. Respect the man; the Last Tommy; Harry Patch. R.I.P.

  • how come anyone can comper coldplay to radiohead radiohead foreverrrrrrrrrrr

  • i like it very much why dont you

  • Favorite Radiohead song by far. I'm glad somebody stood up and gave these veterans the recognition they deserve.

  • wow, that's so beautiful song!

  • whilst the Radiohead song is dignified and sort of interesting it is not exactly going to endure. It is not hummable or memorable. Harry deserves to have a memorable folk song as a tribute to his life's experiences. Hence my attempt in the video responses.

  • @fingerstyleguitarman don't put down Radiohead's work when trying to shamelessly promote your own, you're talking bullshit.

  • @MrBennjjo How is having an opinion "bullshit" - this is genuinely a fairly bland track that does not make for pleasant listening, nor can be sung back. It's not a song. It's a piece of art. Some people will like it but I suspect they are all Radiohead fans.

  • @charlesgoodwin well your 'attempt' failed to achieve either of the criteria that you judge Radiohead for failing, and it's not a piece of art. So, all in all, good effort.

  • @charlesgoodwin it's funny how you say it's an opinion but then you project your OPINION as if it were a fact. and your dad knows nothing about music if he thinks a song has to be "hummable" in order to be good. i listened to your dad's song a few minutes ago and i already forgot how the tune went.

  • @fingerstyleguitarman You sippin on that hunnid percent hubris drank mayne?

  • This song was so beautiful! Then Thom started singing...

  • haha. i'm definitely a radiohead fan but i gotta agree with you on this one. the arrangement is sick. not big on the vox.

  • This is a very beautiful song, and Harry was a brave man.

  • Anyone have a link to the interview that inspired Thom to do the song?

  • Boooooriiiiiiing...

I love Radiohead, but symphonic music isn't their forte.

  • @ClumsyRoot

Stop trolling, close your eyes, and let the song warm your heart.

  • @TheAirEnElManana

I'm not trolling; just pointing out an obvious fact.

  • @ClumsyRoot You have no ear.

  • @1beaupseudo

Actually, I do, which is why I find this tribute so frustratingly dull.

In general, Radiohead's music is quite complex, and often very challenging. I find it curious that, in their foray into orchestral music, they would create such a sluggish and repetitive piece.

  • I love the lyrics but as I've been discussing with a friend, both of us songwriters, there's a smaller overlap between poems and song lyrics than it would seem. This is a great war poem, and as big a radiohead fan as I am I don't like the singing.

  • @ipfreely1981 guitarist Jonny Greenwood

  • God bless you Harry , and all who fell X

  • 156,000 views. Fuck off & die.

  • Rip Tom, Joe, Bert and Charlie. All my uncles and all veterans. Thank you radiohead.

  • @dupes69 and now my father frank. r.i.p.

  • made me cry.......harry patch what a great old bloke he was

  • This is one of the most moving songs I've ever listened too. Thank you.

  • I would have love to see Radiohead going into this direction for an entire album, instead of The King Of Limbs. It's not that I don't like TKOL, but I have to admit this is breathtaking.

  • Is this Radiohead's greatest song...? I dare say. B-reathtaking. Holy for Harry Patch, GOD rest his soul.

  • beautiful song

and it just shows what a different band radiohead are, they can do anything and make it amazing.

also good of them to donate the entire profits to the british legion as well

  • @alexandermorison

    You spelt bollocks incorrectly.

  • @alexandermorison do you understand how much thought goes into arranging a symphonic piece? at all? let alone a good one? this is pretty far from crap i understand (kinda) if you dont like classical music. but in all fairness its alot more brilliant than any of the actual crap being played on the radio.

  • Jonny is the fucking man =)

  • I am, as usual aghast. The grammar. Go to Normandy........see it. The 'temporary harbour' is still there....read up before you go avoid the tourist claptrap. When the sea comes in or out....I like Radiohead but they are about as much use as Roy Harper when it comes to...dare I say it...experience. See the beaches at Arromanches, UK ilanding site and see..just see, the size is collossal.

  • Die lezte Tommy....The last Tommy. Hats off to you good Sir. Mr. Harry Patch. For you shall not be forgotten. Atleast not to me...

  • Jonny really did this one well :-)

  • what a load of buff

  • 2:35 - 3:20 :)

  • The song is beautiful, using it to plug your band is just wrong!

  • thumbs up if your an attention whore

  • thumbs up for the song but not your band

  • @alemagno853 im sorry dont pretend you know better than the actual band members what song should be selected.

  • Who are the 43 deaf people?

  • Pretty cool band, but why don't you have any tour dates or anything? I live in Temecula, and would totally go see a show.

  • Christ, you guys won't be bothered by even a tiny text box while you're listening to music? Fucking grow a pair, people. You could just ignore it. It's hard enough to make any real money in music these days, let alone with a bunch of brainless gits telling you not to quietly mention it while they listen to music they already know. On that note, fucking brilliant song. Can't wait for Saturday.

  • @silentsouless came out early, bro. Go download it.

  • @silentsouless People could just click the red box and the text would go away. I mean that's what its for.

  • @silentsouless Man fuck you, radiohead is for pussass bitches. I'll bump some coldplay all night. It takes two to tango mother fucker!

  • coldplay? really man...come on. if anyone is a pussass bitch its you bumping your coldplay.

  • @benraylemusicmaker are you kidding me? Only the bitches, pussies, and motha fuckin cunts listen to Radiohead. Everyone knows they ripped Coldplay. Listen to some Coldplay, and maybe some Harry Partch, and grow a pair.

  • yea....Radiohead started in 1985...and coldplay in 1996....I think it would be coldplay that ripped off radiohead, not the other way around.

  • @benraylemusicmaker and what came out in 1996... OK Computer? They heard Coldplay and then and only then did Yorke 'n Crew know what it was like to have a pair of balls.

  • @ElusiveHermit idiot

  • @ElusiveHermit Dude. You're a goddamn idiot, trolling your moronic little heart out. I have nothing against Coldplay at all, but the two bands simply don't compare against one another. With that being said, shut the hell up and return to the comments section of "Clocks" from whence you came!

  • @pianod00d Do you have a BM in Composition? Have you spent 8 years studying counterpoint??? I have, and I can assure you, Radiohead ripped off Coldplay. You can tell through the voicings they use.

  • @ElusiveHermit As a matter of fact, I am majoring in piano performance - I have taken upwards of a decade of both theory AND counterpoint. Taking a step back from my flame-war persona, I would like to politely ask you to give some specific examples, because I just don't see it. Furthermore, the fact remains that even if the two bands happen to share certain characteristics from a Theoretical perspective, Radiohead came first, and have been a much larger influence over their peers in general.

  • @pianod00d @ElusiveHermit It's a ridiculous opinion that holds 0 water, even his leader thinks so. From June 2008 issue of Rolling Stones: "I think if you imagine Radiohead going through a jungle clearing a path, then we're the ones who are probably just criminally paving it. I would still give my left ball to write anything as good as OK Computer. I would become a eunuch just for 'Paranoid Android'"

    - Chris Martin, Lead Singer of Coldplay

  • Comment removed

  • @pianod00d After two decades of study, you'll learn harmonic dating. Harmonic dating can't be taught. Check out the video of Thom Yorke playing "The Clock". Thom Yorke stole the word "clocks" from Coldplay. My teacher has studied harmonic dating for three decades. He has no arms and no legs. He says every respected composer will prefer Coldplay over Radiohead.

  • @ElusiveHermit ...Seriously??? Just because the two songs have similar titles? If you were to listen to both songs you'd realize that they are completely different tracks, both musically AND lyrically. Please take a moment to ponder your ignorant comments and stop aggravating those who actually care about and enjoy listening to music.

  • @nojando According to my algorithm, Radiohead is in the T63 spectrum based on the timbre of their minor 9ths. This is clearly contrasted with Coldplay, an S97 and part of the Helmholtz family. Therefore, Coldplay begat Radiohead. My theory teacher has been studying this for four decades. He has no arms and no legs. So take your bull headed grievances and shove them up your you-know-what!

  • @ElusiveHermit So I'm supposed to like Coldplay more than Radiohead? Pfff, please.

  • @ElusiveHermit All the algorithms in the universe won't change our minds about the music that we enjoy listening to. Therefore, I highly suggest that u go and ENJOY some of your own music.

  • @ElusiveHermit you're an idiot

  • @ElusiveHermit Seriously? Coldplay was formed in '96 when Radiohead was coming out OK COMPUTER, arguably one of the best albums ever. Who made who then?

  • Why should I be bothered to check out your band when you feel the need to use another band's music to promote it? If your band was any good you shouldn't have to use another band's work.

  • @bantam700 You've obviously never been to a concert with an opening act, then. Bands use other bands to get exposure all the time.

  • @TheNatedogg56 While this is perfectly true, the opening act are usually there only because the main band has invited them to be there. I'm not sure Thom and the lads would be that amused if they didn't have some say in who supported them. What if it was that JB kid? I doubt that'd go down too well. lol

  • @weirdunclebob Good point. I guess it just comes down to whether or not the advertisement is intrusive, I personally don't think it is. Besides, without this guy we wouldn't have the song on Youtube, so I'm willing to allow him a little shout out for his band...

  • I love Harry's face in the middle picture on the video.

It's the same face my old lecturer gave me when I would get up to leave early, too high to stay the whole class; a cocktail of curiosity and disappointment.

It's as if he's thinking "I'm not sure I understand all this pretentious pap"

  • Straight up your band sucks ha

  • I can't believe I am saying this but.....I don't like the vocals

Yorke sounds brilliant as always but I just think it doesn't fit. The orchestral intro sounded amazing, and then the vocals came in and I was like...eh

they sound good at the end but at first its just like eghh

  • @farizzal its killing me...but oddly enough i agree

  • I don't think I've ever truly cried at a song until I heard this one.

LONG LIVE RADIOHEAD AND HARRY PATCH! RIP

  • Although he would be too modest to admit it, in re-living and sharing the moments of mans greatest inhumanity to man, this gentleman tippified a generation, broken, twisted and tortured by the brutality of war. His silence and pain in recollecting memories from this time, helped younger people of the CNN, video game generation, taste the reality of WW1. A deep THANKYOU Harry, for speaking those words that many could not and had tortured you for years. Hope you see your pals again...
  • 42 thirteen year old girls are confused about why human kind exist on planet earth

  • Beautiful. Wow. I could do a new album of orchestral stuff like this.

  • great song.

  • Shame really.

  • Hence, the left becomes the right, as fools become righteous and we're back to square one...with old harry batting ye down. If ye want to drink from the cup of knowledge, dunnae take a thimble to church.

  • An an unbeleivable experience it must have been to have made it through the war and seen all your old comrades die around you till your the only one left. Rest in peace Mr Patch I hope your playing in the big christmas day football game in the sky.

  • 2:10

  • I declare this discussion: OVER. now let's listen to some music.

  • @cyberstench_critics - his first post was as apt as any music review I have ever read.

@gtfo_troll_person - aknowledge troll.... troll wins.

@videoposter some info on the track would be nice, less shilling of your crap band would be even nicer. but perhaps is too much to ask

  • @cyberstench You really are a complete & utter bellend. Who cares what you think. This is a beautiful piece by radiohead & the meaning behind it is far more vast then your shallow, dull self hating little mind can comprehend so do me & everyone else a big favour. Keep your grotesque & thoughtless opinions to yourself as nobody gives a shit. Negative bastards like you can fuck off back to the slimy slums you came from. Toodles

  • @MrMoviemaster26 You're correct on your first point. And the ones in the middle and at tut end. Unfortunately, your accuracy soon wavers like a napkin in a jet engine. Your proclamations of self-hate etc are fascinating. As where my opinions were formed, I would have thought 'obviously', from a purely artistic origin, you have taken these and made great assumptions of me as a character.

  • Music to cry too.

  • It's kinda funny that a song dedicated to a war hero spouts nothing but anger and venom from people. It's a tribute to him. So what if Radiohead made it? So what if N-Dubs made it? So many people are so short sighted that they feel like whatever opinion is there's must be right Theres no sense. And that is the reason people like Harry Patch will always exist.

  • Georges Vézina (1887–1926) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played seven seasons in the National Hockey Association (NHA) and nine in the National Hockey League (NHL), all with the Montreal Canadiens. After being signed by the Canadiens in 1910, Vézina played in 327 consecutive regular season games and 39 playoff games, before leaving a game in 1925 due to illness.

  • This is kleenex-skiffle at its worst. Ooh, the big man from Oxford is feeling reverential...how nice. Let's plaster a third-rate falsetto all over some PC-World strings and hope it sticks. It doesn't. Not if you have a few raisons in ye scone. Pathetic. Stop wispering? Stop ye cheeping THOM, and I'll consider it. Otherwise, keep ye hampstead emoti-pap to ye-self til we ask ferrit - coont me OOOT!

  • @cyberstench your a dirt bag.

  • @cyberstench hmm u make it seem like they're using him for their gain when clearly all the gain went 2 the British Legion. Don't make this about music cuz it doesn't matter if the song is good or bad. Radiohead took the time 2 do something in honor of Harry Patch. We're all paying our respects and we don't see you doing a damn thing. Don't like the music? That's on you, not us. Your not gonna change anything, Ur only one person who can only say w.e he can on this vid. May ur sins be forgiven

  • @cyberstench herfderfderf stop licking windows.

  • @ 1ofdiamonds

    You're upset about brackets? seriously?

Can't say I'm a fan of the track, didn't think his voice and the strings paired well. Ah well, still love Radiohead and the track's still a nice idea even if it's not my cup of tea.

  • @The4NDYC yes I am. Fuming. Yorke's psych-cheep was old in 91, when they brought out Drill. He called his son Noah for fuck's sake. Who does he think he is? Mandela?

  • @The4NDYC A (Nice Dream) would be Yorke getting glassed at Abingdon prep for wearing eyeshadow. Now Im off for a (Nac Dram) o'whisky. Aye yourself up now 4NDYC

  • @1ofdiamonds Um I don't think I've ever seen him wear eye shadow. You are clearly an unpleasant spiteful little man that doesn't put much thought into his vitriol. The worst kind of person really.

  • @fearsomestmoocow I am quite pleasant when you get to know me. Here's my number: 0777-FUCK-OFF. Give me a call sometime. Otherwise jog on & get yr facts straight before returning.

  • @1ofdiamonds How about you do that instead of throwing your idiocy around the net for all to be bothered by?

  • @fearsomestmoocow U clearly dont know yr Radiohead onions. Abingdon Prep, eyeshadow etc. The reason I do: I used to be stupidly into this band until the penny dropped that they were nothing more than a freshers' ball outfit who somehow got the chance to convince people they were something more. What is the lineage of Radioheads music? They would say the Pixies probably but take a song like High & Dry: Americanised students' union skiffle.

  • @fearsomestmoocow Since then they have been trying (sadly successfully in the case of mostly Americans, who I reckon are just won over by the simple fact they are British: wow, lucky Radiohead) to convince people they are an 'important' 'innovative' band with deeper, more musically respectable roots than the Dawson's Creek soundtrack chaff they harvested for their first two albums at least. The point is: their musical 'roots' are severely iffy, and there is no escaping that fact.

  • @1ofdiamonds What are you trying to say about Radiohead? (in reply to "Since then they have been trying....")

  • Comment removed

  • No offence intended to Harry Patch, btw. I just resent Radiohead for getting involved.

  • @1ofdiamonds

    Hater?

  • @trueaudience Ye who has no standards will always be suspicious and pay t'ultimate price

  • Wait, so this song killed him right?

  • 41 people are fucking assholes

  • When do they remove this monkey from YouTube, it's disgraceful. Fuck the wars, fuck the war criminals.

  • @alternativepal Even though I think Muse are horrible beyond belief I believe you are talking out of your ass here. Harry Patch isn't the first Radiohead song to feature strings. As many Radiohead fans should know by now Jonny Greenwood is responsible for arranging all the strings and orchestra arrangements and has been doing this since the early 90s. Nice Dream for instance was released in 1995 and features a symphony. Climbing Up the Walls is another that has chaotic strings near the end

  • May he rest in peace for a man who saved many lives back in WW1

  • War is wrong for no matter what reason. The lyrics of this song are Harry's words himself

"It wasn't worth it. If two governments can't agree give em a rifle each and let THEM sort it out."

"The third world war will be chemical. I don't want to see it."

"Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims."

"It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us. I hope we do not forget." -Thom Yorke

    Regardless, a beautiful song.

  • @kaloo123 for you to have that opinion it required a war to be won. I am a pacifist by nature but I realise it requires armed men to ensure the survival of my peace loving beliefs.

  • so beautifull

  • Thank you, just thank you so much radiohead for relieving me, helping me express this sadness i sometimes hold inside me :', )

  • If there is a heaven then It would be nice to think that Harry is up there having a pint and a laugh with some old mates he hasn't seen in a long time.

  • @oldskoolmacboy Your comment had me in tears, here's to Harry Patch.

  • @Anononononononymous Sorry my comment made you cry but it's nice to think of Harry that way.

  • @tupplo boy i see it seems that u know NOTHING about music and songwriting . Let me tellu im in the business ive worked with so many great artists so i know what I m talking about. And ive met york a couple of times..i mean dont get me wrong hes a nice guy.And hes a skillful guitar player. We jammed around a bit. But hes been fooling the industry with his music since kid a.He told me that. In a way you are right cause somehow this attitude towards life is "great" but its not to do with the songs

  • Comment removed

  • @tupplo who do u think you are talking to ? I am SULTAN ABSINTH !!!!!!!! You got that? Fine !!! I could write such a song in less than 2 minutes ..... taste is subjective but from an objective point of view this song is the biggest crap.

  • @SultanAbsinth

But from an objective point this song is crap? Hahahaha! You're joking right? damn, you are one damn funny guy! :D Fuck you, "sultan absinth" or whatever you are, you are no other than another loser seeking for a discussion on youtube. Grow up.

  • Comment removed

  • @SultanAbsinth

You're joking aren't you?! No wait.. you ARE the joke! You DO KNOW that people have different taste in music, don't you boy? Taste is subjective. You are the brainless soul here. Get out of here before you make yourself look even more like a joke and end up killing yourself, fucking creep. Also, you might want to learn english properly before writing a ridiculous argument. Grow some balls, and grow the fuck up in general, you might want to expand your horizont.

  • What an amazing, amazing man. I hope people never forget what he and his generation did for us, what happened was nothing glorious at all, but he was a great man who did his best to fight the war in his own ways. Thank you Harry Patch, Rest In Peace.

  • @theannoyingdevil2 He is merely a man with an amazing story.

  • i think it would be a good idea to put the radiohead website on here - download.waste.uk.com/Store/did.html - all the proceeds go to the royal union. i think that would be better.

  • I understand you want / need to advertise a band to even have a chance of success, but it is in rather poor taste given the idea behind the song

  • If you would kindly take down the advert for the band which is currently on here, that would be much appreciated! thank you!

  • @ChrisBarron09 You can just turn off annotations....

  • To use this to advertise your band is shameful.

  • I am the only one that got through

The others died where ever they fell

    It was an ambush

They came up from all sides

Give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves

I've seen devils coming up from the ground

I've seen hell upon this earth

The next will be chemical but they will never learn

  • this song makes me cry whenever i listen to it.

    too beautiful. <3
