This movie was filmed in Paldiski, Estonia. The town was notorious for being basically a Russian ghetto, and in a horrible state. The girl is from Estonia, they pay in krohns. This kind of stuff happens all over Eastern Europe, not only in Estonia, but this particular film was shot in Estonia.

I think film was created in Estonia. This is East Europe situation, there are many russians. I live in Latvia and we have towns where live only russians too.

The real Lilja was from just outside of Kaunas, Lithuania. She was an ethnic Lithuanian. Her name was Dangoule Rasalaite. The story is pretty similar though. The film was shot mostly in Paldiski, Estonia. Parts of the film was shot in Tallinn as well. Malmo was the Swedish location used. Paldiski is a short bus ride from Tallinn.

she was from Žiežmariai, Lithuania which is by Kaunas. you can reach the area in no time via bus from vilnius. the story is pretty close to what actually happened. she had an older sister who left for germany. she had darker hair than oksana, but she did look similar. she escaped one group only to end up being pimped by another group in malmo! amazing, but true. nobody in sweden has been prosecuted. the film footage was shot in paldiski and tallinn estonia.

it was filmed in estonia and it is estonian currency that you see in the movie. estonia is part of former soviet union with a very large russian population. the film was pretty lame. stuff like this happens all of the time in ukraine. life is hard for everybody. western europeans should do less to help africans and more to help their neighbors.
