I just have always thought that Marni and Julie sound like vocal twins. I can't pick a favorite; they are so deliciously similar in their sweet, clear brilliance. I'd love to hear them do a duet in their prime.
This is first version of the soundtrack I had as a kid. I didn't get the actual soundtrack until a couple of years later. I'm hoping Disney will release this on iTunes eventually, as they have with several other of their rare children's albums, such as the Darlene Gillespie recorded "Alice in Wonderland" soundtrack and the "non-soundtrack soundtrack" of "Lady and the Tramp."
This is good! I used to have this LP with the storybook. All singers sound close to the soundtrack. For instance, Richard Sherman's "I Love to Laugh" is very close to Ed Wynn. (If you download it, listeners will hear exactly what I mean.) The original soundtrack with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke is still the best version, but this LP comes close.
Thank you! I am a BIG fan of Marni Nixon and, though I had heard about this recording, I have never HEARD it! Can I have it? (smile). PLEASE add more Marni songs, especially 'Feed the Birds'. My beloved grandmother - who died in 1987 - took me to see 'MP' when I was a kid, and I always think of her when I hear that song. It would mean a lot to hear the great Marni sing it.
Yay, I had this album with added narrative by Bill Lee. If anyone's got that edition then a full upload to YouTube would be most welcome.
Also condolences to Marni Nixon on outliving one of her own children, the singer/songwriter Andrew Gold.

Marni is heard in the film, too: she sang for the geese in the barnyard segment of "Jolly Holiday".

Wow! Although Julie Andrews ruled in Mary Poppins, Marnie Nixons adds her own lovely style when she sings this. Love it, thank you!

I have this exact record! I found it in my grandma's attic and have never played it, as it's not the original soundtrack.

I also have the original label LP with Marni Nixon. I don't think I have played it since 1966. It's interesting to hear it again.
