@LohengrinT I'm being completely serious when I say that I didn't know who Mariah Carey was when I first learned to sing whistle tone. I really DO mean it. I was a VERY sheltered child, and I only listened to classical music. I had to figure out a way to get my voice up to the soprano register, so I found out how to get my voice to a high C. Then a high D...and so on. I can still do a pretty good pass for a coloratura soprano. Pop has nothing to do with it. Maybe for others, but not for me.
It's not a whistle, she's just in very high and strong falsetto. She also is not very creative in her higher notes as she is doing the exact same run every single time!

it's actually not whistle notes it's a very high head voice naturally some sopranos are able to hit that A6 in head mariah can go all the way to a B6 in head before she has to switch to whistle notes. I have a whistle range and the physical feeling of using it does not allow it to be so easily entered if singing something else before it.

I'm starting to believe what some of you say, that it's not reall a whistle, it's a really high falsetto. That must be why I like it so much, because I normally hate whistle notes.
Her head voice/whistle register has always been the weakest part of her voice. She hasn't sang within the whistle register in nearly a decade. On the Back To Basics tour the highest she went was a B5 and even that seemed to be a strain for her and in her recent televised performances she has only gone as high as a G5 at the very top. Her range is decreasing with age it seems.
@primohomme Mariah's just has a breathy texture, but hers are truly sung. She can actually sing entire phrases in the 2nd/lower 3rd octave, compared to Christina, who truly whispered a Bb2 in I Am.
Still, I don't count that shit unless is produced in a strong contralto manly sound, for example...listen to the C3's the mezzo Malena Ernman sings in "Tragedy", that's a true low register.

it's actually not whistle notes it's a very high head voice naturally some sopranos are able to hit that A6 in head mariah can go all the way to a B6 in head before she has to switch to whistle notes. I have a whistle range and the physical feeling of using it does not allow it to be so easily entered if singing something else before it.

I love Christina, but you have to be delusional to say she has "whistle register" like c'mon anyone who can sing can do what she does but they choose not too as it is not legitimate singing. People that actually have the register can sing with it using vibrato and much control such as Mariah Carey (who even sings phrases/words in it). I'm not saying anything tho, I love Christina but if you are trying to say she has "whistle register" than every other singer does too!

Singers like Minnie Ripperton, Mariah & Shanice etc... were gifted in the sense that they can effortlessly/easily access there whistle register without force & discomfort, and use it as they can with there other registers!

Her head voice/whistle register has always been the weakest part of her voice. She hasn't sang within the whistle register in nearly a decade. On the Back To Basics tour the highest she went was a B5 and even that seemed to be a strain for her and in her recent televised performances she has only gone as high as a G5 at the very top. Her range is decreasing with age it seems.

ANYTHING that can't be heard without a mic is a whisper. however, she DID hit a Bb2 with her chest voice. THAT is a fact. whether you consider that into her range or not is political. but FACT is she did produce a Bb2 with her chest voice.
