no no not at all, thats what most people in the world see it as this UK and British or Britian business and believe it's one country. Its far from the truth, those terms Britian, British and UK are all English terms, neither the Scots the Irish or the Welsh would call themselves British because we are proud of our individual identies as different countries. Bascially the English brung in those terms in because for them its just another way for the Scots the Irish and Welsh to say their English.

Scotland did overpower England on many ocassions, and England also overpowered Scotland at many other times. Both factions where pretty balanced in Medieval times- the victory/defeat scale is pretty balanced between the two.

Neither side actually won. It was more of a stalemate. England never managed to subdue Scotland, and Scotland never managed to carry out a successfull invasion of England, always having to withdraw.

The only fact i'm stating is, in a pitched battle, England always won. England had a far better trained and equipped army, hence guerilla fighting used by the scots. Two wars were fought between Scotland and England until the treaty of Berwick in 1357 restored peace between the two kingdoms.

The Romans conquered southern Scotland, but from all the attacks from the north they gave up- it wasn't worth it for them. Scotland wasn't the only country not to be conquered too- there where several other countries that the Romans couldn't hold (mostly eastern European and arab).
