Do you REHOME the birds in your care or do you HOARD them in your home? I'm not trying to be disrespectful it's an honest-to-goodness question that I'd like to know; do you even rehome your birds? If not then can you please name the number of the birds in your care? I'm very curious.
If you watch some of my videos you will see all the ones posted Bird for adoption. I can't afford to keep them.
Although I have spent $7,000 on ONE bird to fix all the health problems a human did to them. No one else wants to do it! I will not adopt those birds out because I can't trust that the new owner will give the same health treatments.
to breed two african greys do you just put a male and a female african grey in a bif cage with a nesting box ? do you need one of those boxes you put the eggs in and it keeps them warm ?could you name the birds that need the ingubater box thing for their young ? thank you so much. bye
Breeding birds should NOT be a spontaneous decision!
Birds are very intelligent. Speaking in behalf of exotic birds... Many choose to mate for life as do humans. Often when you put two together they can either LOVE or HATE one another.
In a worse case but not so uncommon scenario, One bird may kill the other due to inappropriate caged captivity.
So unless you are willing to loose the investment... better to leave breeding to experienced breeders!
thanks for the video full of info i dont keep parrots myself but i keep zebra finches i trained to come home when i let them outdors check my vids if would be interested and plz comment thanks again!!
Thank you. The goal is to get education out. Even though some disagree, many others were never even aware these problems existed until they see such videos as these.
What do you advise the adopter to do if the female of a breeding pair lays eggs? Also, I know how to keep a cute moluccan cockatoo from exhibiting those behaviours you listed - don't spoil it. Don't give it so much attention. But eh, I won't be getting one any time soon 'cause my little boy Henlee is enough for me. Might have him breed sometime, but I'd have him do it with a budgie he likes - if he wants to.
I have to disagree somewhat. Although breeding may reduce the amount of wild-caught birds into the pet trade in the US, it is still going on in huge numbers all over the world.
The other side is that to truly help the endangered birds one must focus on habitat protection. eg: Breeding Hy's does absolutely nothing to preserve the species in the wild. It just makes lots of pretty blue birds for people. They have very little habitat to go back to.
I'm getting a male gouldian finch today but I never knew they were endangered. I will be breeding him in the future but I take very good care of my birds and always let them fly around my room, I hate breeders who cram parrots in small cages for money.
thankyou i think shes molting bc i was reading a book about them and it says they like to molt when the warmer seasons come and everything else seems to be fine, shes not tired or anythign. and i know birds like to hide they symptons until the last minute
i got a qustion about one of my birds. i have 2 and one is a female(parakeets) everything is perfectly fine with her but her droppings are mostly watery. i give her millet spray, healthy seeds and greens and i change her water every day. she takes a bath every day and loves it. what is wrong and what should i do?
She may have a virus. I would take her to the vet. Or if she is molting that could cause it also because a lot of the protein is going to make feathers. If that is the case give her more protein, like scrambled eggs or boiled chicken.
You've almost got it on the education front but the captive breeding stance needs a review. Captive breeding did not stop the wild bird trade in the U.S. it did not stop until the Wild Bird Conservation Act passed. Wild birds were still being imported into Europe despite the ability to breed birds in captivity until recently when the EU banned imports. It is the breeders who have fought and continue to fight trade bans and restrictions for wild caught birds. Plus birds are still smuggled
I have 2 parakeets (girls) and a family freinds parakeet (boy) is comeing over for the WHOLE summer! I think it be nice to have babies! But I dont know anything about them! plz help
Hi! If you let them breed, even the whole summer will not be enough. It takes approx. 2 weeks for the formed pair to start mating, after you give them the nesting box. Then they start laying eggs every 2nd day. So it may take 10-12 days. The chicks hatch in 20+ days. When all the chicks are hatched, parents feed them for 2 months. So you will need at least 4 months to make it. Think if you can give the right conditions to the birds to breed, otherwise they will suffer!!!
I have 2 girl parakeet and one of my faimly freinds is going for the WHOLE summerand leave hes boy parakeet so I dont know I mean it would be nice to have baby parakeets! But I just dont know anything about them.... what should I do?
P.S I know all 3 parakeets get along(he stayed over)
You should only have as many pets as you can take care of in a quality level. So if you have a busy schedule already and know nothing about them it would not be fair to the birds to just breed cause they would be cute. I have received 4 unwanted ones this week. :- I don't breed myself. I am in the business of caring for the already abundant un-wanted ones.
Did you just get a second one? Are they the same age? Just like humans a lot of the same rules apply. You may need to keep them in separate cages especially if they are siblings. You were very vague, so I don't have enough information.
I used bird learns to get pets video to help me with the petting but I can't hold her I pet her on the door of the cage or on my huband. That video really helped me Thank-you but I would really like to see more like that kind or videos that can help people like me
what I do not understand is you are saying people will always get there bird. You see that a lot of there birds are going to there places because people do not know how to deal with them why not make videos showing us how to deal with different problems that way we can work with these birds and they will stay in loving homes..
I work full time out of the home as a manager at a superstore. Additionally I work full time at the sanctuary. This year received my BA in Business Administration, plus several certifications in Bird Care and Fund Raising. Currently I am enrolled in grant writing and will enroll to become a veterinarian after that.
I try to fit these videos in as often as possible. There are some how to videos if you go to my show all videos page.
Hi I just got a yellow cheek Amazon She only goes on my husband she attacked me a few times already but I try to work with her I can now touch her which is a big step I will be ready for what ever she throws at me . I found out the hard way how much work and time you really have to dedicate to her. I will never give up on her I love her to much
I have a question for you:

I have 1 question....
can you keep a male and female cockatiel together without them breeding?
I have heard that if you dont put in a nest box, they wont breed.
iAnimaLover 2 years ago
Yes you can. They can enjoy the company of a companion without the breeding. If she lays an egg you just remove it.

Another question: should we have pets?
cause seriously we human are selfish wanting one or more beings spending their whole lives that are belonged to us and just to be with us.
Let me ask u a question, are u owned by anyone?
If we don't have pets, then we don't have to worry about to breed or not to breed for trading.
camilkuo 2 years ago
You are correct. The truth is though that they keep calling me that they need to get rid of their pets.
I'm going to continue to give them a place to live because its the right thing to do.

Sadly I agree yes they are still smuggled. But thats not the common in the US anyway. Its MUCH more difficult and costly.
As far as other countries I don't have the knowledge. I am glad they banned imports in Europe also. I wish they would all over the world. :-)
Nice to know others research also. :-)
Thanks for commenting.
