I'll be the history teacher.The Zero was killing our F4F's in dogfights so the F6F was designed to be more powerful and more manuverable to stop the slaughter.The F6F still wasn't as manuverable as the Zero in a turning fight but could pull away and come back for more.The fact that we had greater numbers during the fights didn't hurt.I don't think any fighter could turn with the Zero or fly as far but remember,they also lost alot of their best pilots at Midway.The Zero was not be underestimated!
