In all honesty, anime/manga art is like...based off Caucasian looks so...why would Asians have so much beef against us cosplaying. Like. Lolwut. Cause when I envision what the characters would really look like...they don't look Asian o_O Which is a big Duh here.

I'm asian and I really appreciate good cosplay. There's great, cool asian cosplay but there's great american cosplay too. Anyway it shouldn't be about who the best at cosplay. Because really its hard and a lot of effort are put into costume and shouldn't criticize it so much. If you look good then great and if its not totally identical to anime at least I cosplay the character I really like. Its about love of anime so don't compare.
I was reading a book about the history of cosplay and it said cosplay was invented in America. I hate when people say the Japanese are better then the American or the opposite. It's all the same!

Lots of the people here are probably sensitive to what people say to them. Many of the people here could be stabbed by your words even if you didn't mean to hurt them with your words...
the only reason, the asains are able to look so good in their cosplay, is because it part of thier complete culture, anime and manga, are put into serious news reports in japan, in japan you can be walking down the street and see a group of people in their cosplay, and no one points an laughs, but here go to con where on is being held and walk across the street to a mcdonalds and every one stare at you or have some ppl drive by real fast and throw trash at you...because its not "cool"
This whole asian vs caucasian debate makes me so angry. We're all human guys, it's not like asians have some sort of magical ability to make cosplays look better. There's loads of good and average cosplays from both sides. i agree, im stationed in japan and i see people cosplay every now and then and while most are either really great or average, there are some who are rookies (like me). plus the culture barrier is huge, most are quiet and wont do anything too crazy or outrageous like cosplayers in the US. it doesn't matter anyway cause we are all are united by our love of anime.

Japan gave you the game stations and most of the games you play...
same for weapons technology... wouldnt have them ij the japanese hadnt made something first, they're the ones that have nano sized everything... came up with the RC aeroplane for soldiers to use as a scout....
Anime and manga isnt a big deal in Japan everyone watches it everyone reads it, you can even get instructions drawn manga style!

Nano size isn't good when your talking about technology, like computers that have 6,8 and 12 cores can't work with nano things, which in reality would be very hard to match a quad core or 12 core with a atom or "nano" processor

see I'm a bigger girl and the way i see it is i mean i want to lose weight and i should but cosplay is fun and it shouldn't be that you look just like the character but that you took the time to be that character. and its the love for that character also. and losing weight to be a character in the long run should be a great thing ^_^

i agree, im stationed in japan and i see people cosplay every now and then and while most are either really great or average, there are some who are rookies (like me). plus the culture barrier is huge, most are quiet and wont do anything too crazy or outrageous like cosplayers in the US. it doesn't matter anyway cause we are all are united by our love of anime.

Not all westerners have long noses, deep set eyes, or whatever else you say they have. And not all anime characters are Asians. Americans can cosplay characters like batman and those from resident evil the BEST!!! LOVE IT!!! They are 100% accurate when it comes to cosplaying superheroes character. However, asians does do better in cosplaying anime characters. Maybe because anime characters are more skinny than muscular ^0^

i wonder what excuse they will give when Supernatural comes out in anime in january 2011. because technically the story is american but in japanese style animation. will they say that americans have no right to cosplay as their own creations because the characters are gonna have big eyes? im sure no westerner will be telling them to stop cosplaying as sam and dean. i hope i got my point across clearly.

this is very correct. And some ppl think all anime characters are based on asains,sooo not true. And also,in america,finding decent costumes is hard as hell.the only place we got is ebay. when i went to japan i went to over like 8 cosplay stores in a day. so we got that kinda stuff really hard.

I went to the London Expo last weekend and yah know what there were Aisans/whites/black ect ect all there all having a good time and cosplaying and an aisan girl even came up to me and comented on my cosplay...yes an aisan *shock horror gasp*

It all began at a Star Trek con in the U.S. that a Japanese news reporter went to, and then when he saw that everyone dressed up as their favorite characters, he took home what he had seen and introduced costume play, a.k.a cosplay.
So don't act up and say that the Asians invented it when the stories of the origin of cosplay is practically spammed all over the internet!

You have a great point though, people can't just disgrace the "point and shoot" startups in America which is more LIKELY to be seen, as opposed to the ones in Asia. They all have seem to have time, friends, and photoshop. Which if any one else took the time down, could acheive. And also, since America has more overweight people, and Asia has less than 2 percent can't compare either.
