  • A Mustang 5.0 Fuelie, that is awesome!

    Clark Griswold

  • How hard was this to build using the Monster kit? Im really really considering doing this but im not an expert mechanic or anything.

  • its to much power.make the front side heavy.

  • Built not bought. respect

  • What did the swap end up running you?

  • Wow the power to weight ratio must give it a exellent 0 to 60 time, id like to see a carborated 302, like a elderbrock or demon carb on a polished intake. make it more hot roddish. a body kit would be sweet.

  • the 2011 5.0 would be even better.

  • this is one badass miata

  • what mounts did you use i wouldnt mind using my motor from my mustang for that

  • thats absolutely fuckin sick not gonna lie

  • Now thats a guy who knows how to build a Japanese car.

  • Sweet ride. What do you do as far as insurance goes? Establishing value, etc...

  • 21 sticks of butter ahhaha wow its a 5,0 thats cool in a maita

  • how did u manage to fit a v8 in a miata

  • 12 sticks of butter and a shoehorn...

Seriously, there is more room up there than most people think. I have seen CSB 350's and ford 351's in miatas.

I was told my someone who worked at Mazda that originally the Miata was designed with a 6 cylinder in mind. That is probably why the V8 has enough room.

  • There's even V12's in them, one that I know of atm. "brainsboy" I think is the youtube username. Also, I saw a 383 in one a minute ago.

  • @lothre I bet ford talked to mazda and said "we'l give u guys some american """plants"""" to make your house smell good, IF you make those engine compartments big enough to fit a 351, lol, nice car bro!

  • @wignigeater LOL no need to considering Ford own a hefty chunck of Mazda

  • @Maximusfool 6%

  • Comment removed

  • @eightysixpony Sweet

  • @Maximusfool i beleive its like 38% or 39% that ford owns

  • @lothre Mazda had plans to release a V6 miata while the car was still in its early design phases.

the V6 idea was so close to being an actual production miata option that two or three miatas at Mazdas japenese headquarters were actually built with V6's in them and are on display there

  • @OMGItsWeasel - I've been hearing rumors of V6 miatas for many years. They seem to keep bringing the idea back to life then killing it off because of expense then bringing it back. I heard several possible motors for a V6 Miata (2.5 V6, 3.0 Vulcan, 4.0 Cologne, Ford 3.8, Ford 3.8 supercharged) I must admit the sound of a Cosworth DOHC 4.0 with aftermarket twin turbo does sound quite alluring.

  • @Slipknotyk06 its not just a rumor, mazda MADE a couple in the late 80s.

god, today's V6s would be so boss in a miata. theres all the Nissan Z motors, fords new mustang 3.0, like you said; the cosworth V6, zomg... happy pants.

  • @OMGItsWeasel - The new Mustang V6 is a 3.8, 315 HP, 30 MPG.... phenomenal engine. The Cosworth DOHC 4.0 would probably be a better fit for the Miata, but maybe Ford Could modify the TIVCT system and Direct Injection to fit the Cosworth DOHC 4.0 and blow every other V6 on the planet's doors off XD Hell, the GTR would be scared if that came in the Miata

  • what?... its called monster miata... Theres not like two of these things.. Its a loot! Ls1 fits perfectly:)

  • there are actually alot

  • its easy. engine bay was made by mazda to accept a v6 later on, which never happened.

  • I bet that thing loves to burn rubber! :)

  • The guys at discount tire make me light them up right before they put on the new set

  • what is the timing for a 0-60mph run?

  • im visualizing the v8 in my miata ..... man that feels good cant wait till my conversion is done !

  • 5 L V8 maan this sounds evil in that pretty car

  • Did you build this yourself, or bought it from a custom shop? How much was it if you did all the work?

  • It was built at Monster Motorsports in Escondido CA in 1993 where I worked for a short time. Back then the base conversion was something like $15,000. My car was used back then while I worked there for taking potential customers out for spirited test drives.

Later there was a wide body supercharged version that was supposed to be over 400 hp. It was double the price of the base conversion if I recall.

  • HAHA, I love it. Miatas are one of my favorite cars, and you just made one even better. Sweet.

  • Hey, thanks for the compliments. Fun car indeed. Couldn't have more fun with a Nuclear Powered tic-tac on wheels I say =D

  • it does kinda look like a white tic tac now that u mention it hrmm... lol

  • MIATA HAS FACE!!!!! - - O

  • I love it ,nice and clean and sounds good too, good job!

  • dude, get rid of those cobra emblems, trust me, know one's gonna think that's a cobra.

  • why would I do that for you. If I spent my time making sure every piece of my car was to the acceptance of everyone who saw it, I would end up with an abomination that "I" did not like.

I make my car the way I enjoy it and nothing on it is done to please onlookers. It goes under the same philosophy as horsepower; no matter how much I add someone will always be faster. so you make it as fast as you are personally happy with.

  • i dont expect or want anyone to "think" it is a cobra.

The reason I added them was because I thought the act of adding a ford V8 to a foreign roadster was in the AC cobra spirit. I hope that clears things up =)

  • So what did this cost when you bought it and how much HP does it have? I heard they could build them with 250-500HP depending on customer's needs.

  • Impressive, Worth alot of money in the future

  • WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT????(as the miata flys by)

  • im about to build a turbo'd or supercharged 302 or 351 miata with a full built mustang swap and 8.8 the goal is at least 470 to the wheels i just wanted to know what kind of ride does yours have

  • do you have cobra emblems on your fenders?

  • how fast it became when you put a v8 there ?

    Still Miata Rules !!!

  • the speedometer only goes to 140mph, I have had the needle way past that, so your guess is as good as mine. If i had to guess i think the fastest i have gone is maybe 150mph, i did nto want to go any faster because the headlight doors started to pull up and i didnt want them ripping off.

0 - 60 is under 5 seconds, G-tech pro said I did it in 4.4 seconds, but those are supposed to only be accurate to 1/10 second, so it could 4.3, 4.4, or 4.5 seconds 0 -60

  • cool, but i like shelby cobras better

  • Ya, Shelby Cobras are cool, but I like girls better =D

  • yea, girls are better, but i like beutiful women better =)lol

  • buttsecks? haha sweet car

  • sure =)

  • Beautiful girls cool but I like Muscle cars better.

  • Why u cant have sex with a muscle car.

  • Muscle cars cost less to maintain than a girl around here. When you get older you'll understand.

  • PREACH!

  • my first car was miata12yrs ago,In my country when you drive MAZDA then you will never have girl-friends forever...!(This is only in my country)!however handsomer U are!no kidding!!

  • Hahaha. Miata does tend to be considered a girls car. However, I thought it was important to point out, that this Miata is around 300hp and I met my beautiful wife in 1993 when I was driving this car. Maybe it's because I dont live in your country though =D

  • yeah, my miata was beautiful V spec1.8- 130 hp then tuned up to170hp by mazdaspeed ,& first ever Driving L i got at that time!5 yrs being with i got so many miracle@s about money but not a girl, then swaped to RX7,so..now RS4 for toying,so my beautiful lady , she is driving DEMIO,!ha ha,!so 300hp for miata must be flyin`bullet!interesting!to stop this bullet need Brembo, and more aero Df!U are lucky in your Country!

  • Yeah, The brakes definitely could use a Brembo upgrade. They are still stock right now with slotted and cross drilled rotors, but I still get fade after a lot of spirited driving. I am used to their limit and threshold now, but it would be nice to be able to stop a little later than I can now. heh

  • Goodluck anyway!,because when i was in miata at that time, something in the back need more great control!,Miata is light car.,and nice to play with however!,MAZDA best ever!, a long with RX7 at that time...,!.timeles .remind me in great lucky business with....>

  • assuming the engine doesnt add a rediculous amount of weight, you should be alright with just upgrading the pads and fluid. If spec miatas can run 24 hour races on stock calipers/rotors (which they do, I crew every year for a team that does), then you should be alright for sprited driving

  • ive heard stories of a v8 miata, i just dont like the middget car look though

  • oh shit

  • do you have a web page

  • I had one but it has been down for a couple years. Since I have had a few questions about it I may get it back up on a new address in the next few weeks.

  • god damn...i want one haha.

  • major envy man. I'm hoping to start a monster miata project.

  • Thanks for the info. Looks like I have some homework to do if I want to build one. Cheers.

  • Very cool... but strange to hear that sound coming from a Miata. Did you have any problems getting it smog certified?

  • the first two sogs MM handled, then went out of business and left owners in the lurch. After a trip or two to the smog ref in CA I learned they pass if you have all the emissions equipment that was standard on the car the motor came from. O2 sensors, CAT's etc. Have all the factory gear and they pass with flying colors.

  • Beautiful car. How much does one of those usually go for? What Package/Modifications did you get along with the V8 Swap? Do you have 1/4 Mile times? Thanks in advance and again Beautiful car.

    ~Rene

  • Thanks. In the 90's it was about 14k not including the the car, very pricey. But in the 90's these were faster than just about anything you could buy new for under 100k.

included in the conversion was; V8 and T-5, custom turbo RX-7 diff, custom axles and driveshaft, custom radiator, upgraded ABS brakes, thicker swaybars front&rear, stiffer springs, frame rail re-enforcemts, 4-point roll bar, front and rear spoilers, grafix.

  • A few mods have my 0-60 at 4.5 seconds according to G-tech(within 1/10 sec accuracey). Never tracked it, would like to. it's a daily driver for me since 93, lots of fun at stop lights.
