For the Hell of it ya oughta stick a spurious Fender Telecaster emblem on it. No one would ever know except an esoteric few. Lovely, lovely guitar work witch I've watched dozens of times now.
inspired to gear that you play by ear as i have chosen this path and sometimes wonder if im wasting time but true fluency is the goal not mimicry however awesome
Nice to see this side of your playing. As usual, your playing is flawless. I was sitting here and clicked on this song and had it playing in the background, then I played it again and watched it. Great feeling you put into it.
I know that they aren't the ones that made this song but until I looked up the song to see who it was, I thought this song was by The Moody Blues....it just made me think of them for some reason, some of the parts kind of remind me of "Nights In White Satin"
What a lovely sound and played so well. You've got soul in your playing. I'd like a guitar that sounds like that and would kill to be able to play like that.
Dude I dont know why but after seeing this I wanted to ask you. Do you do reggae? I would love to see you play the solo for no woman no cry Bob marley
Wow! Brother, you are gifted and truly amazing to watch. I was wondering if you would consider covering "FRANKENSTEIN" by Edgar Winter. Thanks brother and keep rocking.
I have watched your videos since before the black... I'm always amazed by what I see, and hear in them. You don't just play guitar, it becomes part of you, and you are part of it. Lots of people play the notes, but they cannot make the music. You do both exceptionally well.
Thanks for taking the time to post these for folks to enjoy.
Sam, You really continue to amaze me, I have done several different guitar courses thru the years and have studied music theory and can read music somewhat, however you have natural talent that really comes thru in your playing.
Excellence! man your skill amazes me...wow...I guess after all the years I have into playing I really don't believe i'm going to reach your level before I die...you must be proud of yourself...
I just pulled this up after enjoying Proud Mary and "cleaning up my act." Whiter Shade of Pale has always made me stop and think, but playing it with some your style takes it to an incredible new level.
Another awesome performance! This is the best instrumental perfomrnace of the most famous Procol Harum's song I ever heard, performed with great feeling and fantasy.
@rgm791 - This is Line 6. I don't play outside my home. If I did I would use my 'Cool Cat' or 'Crunch Box' pedals. You can hear the 'Cool Cat' towards the end of my 'Long As I Can See The Light' video.
@TMEwald - If I had tabs I would share them. I don't use tabs, everything I do is 100% by ear. I don't know any music theory, nor do I have any training or background in music.
@MyTwangyGuitar I'm self-taught on some instruments and play by ear but I'm nowhere near your astonishingly high standard. You are either born with music in you or you aren't . YOU MOST DEFINITELY ARE. You'd make it in almost any band but it's better that you do it this way as your wonderful ability isn't lost in the background. You cover almost six decades of material and each piece is as good as the original and sometimes better. Keep on playing. It's much appreciated.
My mom, God rest her soul, loved this song when it came out. So this will always take me back to 9 yrs. old living at my grandmothers (Oma) house in Holland. I (even then) never gave a rats ass about this song. Almost to this day, although I judge it more mature now, I don't care. It;'s funny how songs affect ya like that. But then again, I've never heard a version like this. I'm running out of descriptive words to use. Lets try 'smooth' playing.
@HankTheIII - I love the Rev and will be using my RHH Gretsch on my next cover but do not take requests. I have a long list of criteria I must adhere to before considering a cover of a particular song.
@guitarrene - When I was in Europe, I realized the internet is not as readily available as it is in the States. Now I know why people have been hitting me up for DVDs. I am going to start out with a couple of DVDs that will include what is already here, lessons not covers. When I get the time, I'm going to produce a DVD that will cover so much of what I can't cover in ten minutes. As with everything I do, it will be of the highest quality and content.
Intimate greetings from Russia! With the great pleasure I look your videos - you are magnificent. Under your influence has bought Squier Strat by Fender and I try to take the first steps in music (me of 56 years). Thank you!
@rdougw - Times are getting pretty tough but I haven't had to resort to that yet. After countless messages, I am finally going to produce a DVD of my lesson videos. I will also be offering lessons by Skype (webcam) and in my home. As for the shirt, we'll see how things go!
@MyTwangyGuitar Judging by the incredible production quality And overall time and effort you must put into these free YouTube videos,I can only imagine the awesomeness of any DVDs you might produce! Meanwhile I'm ripping everything I can get my greedy little paws on! ;)
@NirradGann - Realplayer is my favorite d/l tool. As professional as they might look, my production gear is as follows: A 5 year old standard DV cam, a dually worklite from Orchard Supply Hardware, a black bed sheet from Walmart and the cheapest black polo shirt and pants I could find. Hell, even the guitar was only 450.00. Thanks for your comments today, I'm hittin' the hay...
@MyTwangyGuitar Goes to show, its not the size of your tool, but how swing that axe!
Nothing wrong with cheap.Your end product is proof of that!As for that Tele,,,,well you got lucky on that one Brother! By the way, thanks for the video about that one,I think I got all the technical details I need to come close to cloning myself one.Now if i could just clone those fingers,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Another great effort Sam. You're responsible for my getting Rock This Town down. You're a great inspiration for those of us of lesser talent to keep at it. Sam, I know you've covered this ad naseum but could you once again let us know which Line 6 unit and which recording software you are using? Btw you also inspired me to have a custom Tele built with Lindy's. Thanks again
@zulujosp - I use Gearbox Gold. It is no longer manufactured. The equivalent is 'Studio GX', it uses the 'PodFarm' software that I use. I recommend upgrading and getting a unit with an XLR jack. I have to change soundcards when I want to mike an amp. I use 'Reaper' recording software. Your Tele should sound great!
Really nice phrasing, especially the tension you created by pushing and pulling against the song's rhythm coupled with the feel for dynamics. The tone wasn't too shabby, either.
Wow you are so awesome thanks for that great song and to be able to watch you play it so wonderfully. My wife loved it as well. Thanks for coming back to do what you do so well and loved by so many Sam. Happy Mothers Day LOL
Look for "Roy Buchanan - the messiah will come again" (it is one of the most popular songs of Roy Buchanan) But I'm pretty sure (by the style of music you play) you know him ...
