I watched this episode, it was good. I love documentaries like this. I noticed that overhead cranes were used to move segments of the columns around, some pieces that weigh 10 tons. My question is how did the Greeks that built the Parthenon get such large pieces up high to build the columns.
wait, how did the optical ilusion work with the parthenon, i still dont get it...(13 year old girl, dutch and needs info about the secrets/trics of the parthenon (HOMEWORK T^T))
Except, Jimmy, if the marbles were returned to Greece they would not be put back on the Parthenon on the Acropolis, but would be put in the museum. I don't think any archaeologist in Greece agrees with your suggestion of placing them in the open on a building that can no longer hold them.
Yes yes they built everything on angles to make it look as though it is straight. Thats why New Yorkers are so crazy, they think everything is caving in on themhahahya ya bad joke I dont care.
the found the technique of the method descovered on the temple of apolos in now turky the ilusion was inteded they found the grids also the gaps wer 1/32 of a mill apart and the temple was built on a golden ratio and other ratios it was a very hard construction they are finding it dificult to resore its taking thwm 10 years even with the modern technology we have today the greeks of old were more precise with there cuting of stone
hey, that was exactly what I thought. Does this woman understand what literally means? I mean, isn't it the exact opposite of what she should be saying? She should have said "what we have here is kinda like the DNA of the Parthenon"

Its no optical illusion it was done on purpose to counter the curvature of the Akropolis
dropdeadugly100 2 years ago
The columns at the front and back of the Parthenon are longer than those down the sides because the Akropolis causes the stereobate to curve.

Nice, but what is this building made for?

The so called Elgin Marbles now in the British Museum belong to the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens.

Literally the DNA?

olsdude 4 years ago 2
I think she means, like the DNA is the template for each new strand, the temple is the template for the Parthenon
Konko123 3 years ago 2
apparently the word "literally" can literally mean it's opposite. I will relent from my anger.
dylanotto 3 years ago 4
Okay, didn't get that but sure.
Konko123 3 years ago
She meant "literally" in a figurative sense. ;P
