  • You have the blues.

  • Ik sta versteld.

  • This is AMAZING!!! Do a tutorial please my friend!!

  • Great job man. To cover this properly you need to understand that this is more than just a song and I think you understood that perfectly.

  • Hmm, en nu weet ik zeker dat ik ook een 12string nodig heb... Fantastisch! Je weet de échte blues briljant te vertolken... Nog gigs in regio Amsterdam? Als dat 't geval is, moet ik erbij zijn.

  • Every time I fall on hard times, I fall back on this video. Thanks, man.

  • This is how the blues are supposed to sound.

  • pure amazing really but you should do this song again with a better view of that fret board man i want to so try and learn this song

  • this is really a terrific rendition, has a lot of personality.

  • very nicely done sir, i was thinking of doing this tune my self, im in the process of posting some songs , of course the 12 string does add another dimension to the sound, but i find your version particularly moving. best of luck to you

  • Awesome!

  • S**t! Sell my guitars... You're awesome, excelent performance!

  • amazing performance. best i've seen on here besides the reverend himself.... maybe you should consider the presentation a little? maybe you could set up a backdrop and consider lighting.... just a little suggestion. but huge voice, great execution. i'm impressed.... youtube guitarists know how to miss the mark when it comes to blues, and you took on one of the big ones and did a great job! keep it up!!

  • Well I was going to look for another video when this came up, but then I changed my mind. You did a REALLY good job with this!!

  • Fantastic post. Your interpretation and innovation makes for excellent time spent viewing. Thank you for making this accessible to the fans.

  • Fantastic post. Your interpretation and innovation both demonstrate an understanding and dexterity which have immense value.

  • Just impressive.

  • Awesome version

  • This would be a great song to play on your porch on Halloween night dressed as the Grim Reaper! That will definitely keep people away from your house lol.

  • such an amazing cover. I really hope you're proud of this! You FEEL the blues, rather then just play it. that is what it's all about, i think..

  • on a 12 string this song sounds amazing! awesome work with the guitar!

  • Wow, great!

  • Most excellent delivery! Can't imagine it done better. Certainly better than I do it.

  • Btw it would be really nice with a lesson on this one.

  • Thanks for the kind words.

For a lesson on this song : check out Ernie Hawkins' 'Rev Gary Davis' lesson dvd's at Stefan Grossman's Guitarworkshop.

  • I've been listening to this song over and over for days now. You even sing it better than Gary Davis himself!

  • Geweldige versie Daddy! Very haunting! Wat voor 12 string bespeel je hier? Grtz Tim Pan Alley

  • Dank je, de gitaar is een Gibson LG12 van rond 1969 (met een 12-fret nek - zeer uitzonderlijk voor een 12-stringer van die tijd)

De LG (Little Guitar) modellen waren de cheapo's van Gibson.

  • 2 thumbs up!

  • Not making fun, but you were definitely onto something by playing this with eyes closed.

Probably the only way to even approach the Reverend Davis's delivery.

    REALLY good rendition.

  • Thanks ..perfect timing me finding this here...the old blues guys very therapeutic...death took my dog away ..motherf##ker

  • pretty cool,

  • Bravo ;)

  • "make your last talk now"

  • Its funny - I was happy looking at cannibal corpse videos and Job for a cowboy to come across this. Lovely cover man real soul there :)

  • i just looked up this song after seeing ramblin' jack elliott last night. you rock this out man. sounds good enough to steal. heh heh

  • man.. u GOT the blues.

  • That is freaking amazing. You play this 12 string with so much power and soul that it seriously blows my mind.

  • absolutely awesome

  • awesome awesome man love your love of reverend gary

    thank You!

  • NIce

  • Very, very, very nice.

But you already knew that. ;-)

Long live the Rev. (and 12-string guitars).

  • do you have a tab for this?

  • Of all your exceptional videos, for some reason this one stands out as the most balls out spectacular in my head. Not only did you introduce me to the wonders of Rev. Gary Davis, you inspired me to pick up my old guitar and try to learn some of his licks. I can only thank you for all your videos and your continuing willingness to share you gift.

  • Thanks bluesman, and always heartwarming to hear somebody pick up the guitar again; it's a wonderful instrument that will give you eternal enjoyment.

  • oh Oh OH!!!

  • Awesome version! Just wonderful... 5 stars

  • great!

  • damit man. how can you be so good at this haha. yet another 5.

  • 12 string envy!!!!! YYYYYYiiiikes! Smokin'!!!!

  • Great version!!

    Well done!!

Do you have an electronic tab for it anywhere? I'm desperate to learn it! Its beautiful. Good on the Rev!

  • Thanks, sorry no elecronic tab (don't have a scanner).

Tab is available through the Stefan Grosman site. It has been published in several books and Ernie Hawkins teaches it on his RGD dvd's.

  • Great!

  • This is great man!

You have taken the best out of the Gary Davis style, but still you play even cleaner.

As good as Jorma Kaukonen on this one - means five star picking and soulful singing.

  • holy crap...5 stars to you man

  • beautiful!

  • You have a gift, the same that old masters had.

  • Fantastic, twelve-string, slack tuning blues. I'm inspired -must go play now. Thanks for posting.

  • Extraordinaire!!! Really good stuff, Stovepipe. Ta maîtrise de la guitare est incroyable. Inspirant.

  • Great playing, and just as soulful and professional as your slide work.

Keep up the good work Daddy S

    Best regards, Rich

  • Beautiful man. Gives me the freaking chills. If I could play I'd be playing the blues. People say I got the voice for it. But you sir have it in every way. Great job. This was fantastic.

  • Great Daddy, You have a Fantastic Voice on these Blues/gospel Songs as well as outrageous Playing!!

  • Really great- great playing and a magnificent guitar.

  • hello!

well.. the cover is really great! So i give you 5 stars! Really really nice! I decided to cover it too. I just knew the Billy Corgan version. BCorgan, the frontman of Spumpkins did a version of Reverend Gary David and it´s really great. I try to do something.. ehhe.. If someone have time go and check it. Regards for all!

  • Allright !!! 5 stars to you

  • i wish i was your next door neighbour.

  • can i have the hosue on the other side of him? this guys fantastic!

  • Hi Daddy what 12 string is that? It sounds mighty powerful!

I have a stella 12 string about 1950..... How many guitars you got? They all sound great

    Terry

  • It's a Gibson LG12 (ca 1970). I have about 8 guitars, I think :-)

  • Super vocals and guitar work.

  • Few white people can holler the blues like that.

  • Great job on the Reverend Gary Davis song - 12 string sounds great - and well-played...

  • Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated!

I pieced this version together combining performances by RGD and my own ideas; tab is to be found in several Stefan Grossman publications.

  • good! where did you get this version?

  • Wow!!!

  • Bravo!!!

  • I absolutely love this :) thanks DaddyS

  • Great performance.

  • gr8!!regards bluespower..

  • Great tribute to the Grim Reaper. The Rev sure knew what he was singing about. Nice take, Daddy.
