Astrological Talismans

Are astrological talismans similar to electional astrology in that it only works in the realm of the possible? For example if someone is struggling to find a mate but looks like Quasimoto will giving him a talsiman for love really have much of an impact? Or suppose someone is a pure Phlegmatic in temperamant, will giving a mars talisman succeed very much in giving the person enough backbone? A talisman to rule the world and its natural resources.....if only.

You can't overthrow your natal chart or the larger cycles of fate, national, world, etc., with talismans. You can, however, do the best you can with the cards that have been dealt to you.

If you use multiple talismans, does the effect weaken? also, is there anything you can use to protect yourself from other talismans, or at least weaken their effects?

Generally, if you stick to benefic talismans there is not a problem with using more than one. Mars & Saturn may need to have a bit of distance from other planets. In terms of protection against malefic spiritual influence, there are a number of fixed star talismans, like Vega & Procyon that work well. Check out my Renaissance Astrology web site for more info.

Great video, Do you know if it's possible to astrologically charge a talisman you've purchased? and also, whether or not it's possible to consecrate it numerous times?

The key to astrological talismans is creating or making them at an astrologically appropriate time. This means actually engraving, casting, inscribing, writing, etc., at the astrologically elected time. It would be easier just to make them at any convenient time and then consecrate them at an astrologically elected time, but this loses out on the power that creation at an elected time provides.

Modern people get obsessed with the physical material and design of talismans, but according to our traditional sources, the astrological timing of a talisman is the most important factor. Ritual and consecration is also important. Materials can help, but are not as important as timing and ritual.  Thabit Ibn Qurra, for example, says "Don't worry about what metal you use for their power and strength is in [the astrological timing}" De Imaginibus, ch 5.

That being said, at Renaissance Astrology we do typically use some of the planet's metal in its talismans. We do not use toxic metals like mercury and even are hesitant to use lead. This is not really a problem as our traditional sources list many different metals for each planet and as mentioned, materials are the least important part of talismans.

Has anyone ever commissioned a Saturn talisman? What uses would they have for it? Are talismans made while the planet is in it's exaltation as strong as in their domicile?

Saturn has been in detriment in Cancer & Leo for the past 4-5 years (!) so we haven't been able to make Saturn talismans. We have a casting planned for late November 2008. Exaltation is close enough in power to sign/domicile to be almost indistinguishable. Cornelius Agrippa in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy says Saturn is good for long life, increasing power & prophesying things to come. Saturn also rules magic and occult philosophy.
