  • Really good song, just found this band, lovin' it. Really sad...

    Anyone know the movie name?

  • this video reminds me of TOOL

  • 2:33 Funk.

  • @TheHikingMule Yea I fucking hate it when people state their opinions on public fourms.

  • @CyanideSovereign That's your opinion right? Anyone note the hypocritical Irony?

  • @ItsukiMakabe That was the point.

  • One of my fav bands ever. POS is a special cure for my soul. Greatest both. Gildenlow, Hallgren, Langell and mr. Hermansson, my fav POS musician.

  • I checked these guys out because my friend said my love of Ayreon would attract me to them, and he was right. Great band, and yet another reason why prog is the epitome of music.

  • This is the first time I have ever listened to POS! Their pretty good.

  • Amasing,and Beautiful.

  • six stupid bastards

  • @Goenitz69 By your reasoning, you are also all kinds of stupid because of the infinite things you happen to not like.

  • 2:49 - epic monobrow...

  • I just found out that my Aunt had as miscarriage for the second time. I feel terribly sorry for her. I know how much she and my Uncle want to start a family, but fate just hasn't played into their hands. I'll think of them and of my unborn brother when I listen to this song.

  • amazing, my first pain of salvation song... and my favorite! :)

  • This might be the best song I've ever heard.

  • whats is the name of the film?

  • Did you choose this movie because you can see Salma Hayek nude?

  • @freminick123 Seems like a good enough reason for me.

  • 7:20 what a guitar mon i cry with this so beatiful

    :

  • they r like an even more progressive dream theater- jus a brilliant prog metal band

  • I love the inclusion of Frida. Genius.

  • the greatest possible joy turning into the worst disgrace... only who had personally lived it could channel it in such an achingly beautiful song

  • This song hits you straight in the heart, superb.

  • its also volume w/good tone not how much range u got i can sing more range than u and it iwll sound like rats

  • its ur preference but for me Labries tone is way better stop argueing against 1 of the greatest Prog bands of all time

  • Wow, that was not the same of scarsick at my ears

  • wow, this song is so sad, i hope noone of the band ever had to experience such a tragedy...

  • @SystemOfALeo unfortunately daniel and her wife..

  • you are mad thats ur opinion LaBrie's tone range and accuracy are alot better , im a big fan of both but this is a fact, just because DT has most of Prog fans doesnt give u the permission to bitch about them saying that there "too popular now" and this band is better learn to listen

  • @Merrittsherman no, they don't.

  • Discovered this band last week, this is a SICK song. Except this im more into heavier metal like Iron Maiden, Dark tranquillity or In flames etc. But the list gets bigger every time and PoS + Tool is really starting to grow on me.

  • Honestly, I'm a great fan of Dream Theater and they were my favourite band of all. I mean, they are gods in the music world. No one can play like them. They were gods to me... until i met Pain of Salvation. Still love DT, though. But PoS conquered my heart like no other band did, except perhaps Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull. And guys, I'm 40 years old. Just to say that PoS is the best.

  • @Capitaomac1 Saw PoS last night at HMV Forum and they were absolutely brilliant. Saw DT last year and they weren't. You're just a boy. I'm nearly 52 and my wife says I should grow up.

  • @baptandrapt Lol, And I thought I was old. That's the spirit. You are one lucky guy. I never had the chance to see PoS in concert. I saw DT twice, though. And both times were excellent. I wish PoS would come to Portugal. There are a lot of fans here, but no cds on the stores. Luckily I bought my whole collection in Luxembourg when I used to live there, except Scarsick and Road Salt I had to order. Don't you ever grow up. Keep annoying that wife of yours, lol. I already scared mine away.

  • I know nobody wants to hear me say this, but this band is so much better than Dream Theater, just saying

  • @EnergizerBunny804 Blasphemy, this is madness!!

  • @phpeni sorry to say, but it's teh truth

  • @EnergizerBunny804 Dude, so true.

  • @EnergizerBunny804 you have balls to say that. I semi agree with you :P

  • @EnergizerBunny804 This sounds nothing like Dream Theater, are you deaf?

  • @EnergizerBunny804 I can't enjoy both bands? I love both DT and PoS....

  • @EnergizerBunny804 Never! :\

  • @25245638 Always! :\

  • @EnergizerBunny804 Never.

  • @EnergizerBunny804 I view people who argue about whether DT or PoS is better in the same light that I view people who argue about whether Ke$ha or Nicki Minaj is better.....the latter two are both uninspired dreck, and the former two are both talented and kickass. I don't care which one you like better.

  • @Caleb9849 well you'll be happy to know that comment was not directed to you

  • "I Never saw your face, and now you're gone, without a trace. Except the trace of blood that's deeply scarred into my eyes, to fill your place."

  • If you feel nothing while listening to any song on this album, seek immediate medical attention.

  • Love the solo <3 ... a great piece, cried and everything the first time I listened to it

  • im dissapointed dream theater didnt have PoS on their tour ):

  • @hypnocSlayer They did the progressive nation tour with Pain of Salvation and Opeth that one time, i'm pretty sure.

  • Labrie is a btter singer overall, by far. However, Daniel has more passion in some individual songs like this.

  • great song.

visit my channel to check a song of the new album

  • The subject matter is why they rarely play it live, shame .

  • Man this shit is awesome. So sad though....

  • Epic.

  • Pure genious!

  • It´ s quiet weird how my old fave prog rockers progress, when i discovered POS, PT, Mastodon and so on they were completely unknown, now even pain of salvation have songs and videos that allmost could fit mtv, only allmost but again it´ s strange to watch! When PT´ s The incident came out i saw it stand as recommendet discs together with ect. Muse and Mika? wtf? :D not to mention crack the skye, and we´ d probably gonna experience close to the same with Roadsalt haha!

  • @UnleashedPassion1 mastodon is not progressive.its just crack the skye that is..and i don't think it's as good as blood mountain or leviathan.

  • masterpiece.

  • Wow, I just realized how depressing this song is.

  • this song is a masterpiece!

  • mitt nya favoritband

  • vocal lines are ver ARK sounding, whole song sounds like an ARk tune, good stuff.

  • Ark??No way man...

  • I couldn't get this song, any way to download it?

    thx.

  • Go buy the album.

    Jeez

  • @OjosDeHuever I've had Remedy Lane on order from Amazon since August - I feel that guy's pain - it's just too hard to get good music sometimes.

  • My most sincere apologies in that case. It´s just that i can´t stand those freeloaders that download everything, rave about how great the bands are all around the place but don´t own a single original.

If you like a band, support them!!!

    Thanks

  • Yeah I have all PoS's albums / DVDs except the new EP, the BE album (I kind of want it now - it's soooo much different than the Live version), Remedy Lane (the story is as above) and Scarsick (which I didn't like very much until recently - I like it now, probably going to order it). If we don't support our favorite artists - one day they won't be able to produce transcending music like this - and all you will see are mainstream bands that don't produce good, emotional, real music.

  • Totally agreed.

As for the PoS albums, Scarsick was quite a dissapointment for me (i like some tracks, though), but BE is godlike!!!

  • @OjosDeHuever

Some of us don't live close to a CD store or are old enough to buy music online... I like this band, but I "freeload" because I am incapable of buying stuff online and the closest CD store is 3 hours away!

But I do buy music when I am in town (like less than half a dousin times a year). Also, CD's cost like 35 $ here in Norway, let alone DVDs.

  • @sfaune92 Stop being a cheapskate or get your parents to buy online. It's no excuse for stealing music you fag.

  • @sovietchimp First and foremost, I am not a fag. Secondly, if you knew my parents, you would have swallowed those words. I turned 18 four days ago and I'm soon going to get a credit card, then start to buy music.

  • @sfaune92 Yeah... you're a fag alright.

  • @sovietchimp I am not a fag for Christ's sake, and you are a f**king troll!

  • @sfaune92 Whatever, if I'm a troll then you're a thief. End of, now listen to some music... fag...

  • @sfaune92 it's pretty obvious he's a troll. arguing with a troll never works, don't bother lol

  • @sfaune92 Damn, i stroll 'round three CD stores each week :S

  • @JujuForTheWin -- Oh, you're lucky! I envy you; I live on a little island whence the nearest CD store is more than 120 kilometers away.

  • @sfaune92 Wow, I mean no disrespect to the artists, but have you considered the alternatives? Like Limewire? In your case you could kind of justify it :p

  • @Arachnidius I do not use LimeWire; the shit brings to much viruses. I actually try to buy much as possible, but I am a student. This album is on my must-buy-pretty-soon-list though.

  • This song is so cool... Wrinting about loosing a baby? What a concept, lyrics are so powerful and the music fits perfectly!!! Thx Davis for this master piece.. this and Rope ends.. Im thanking you for writing about taboo subjects!!

  • @guennille This was written about his own wife's miscarrige... so concept is maybe the wrong word. It makes for a more powerful song once you realise who he is actually talking about.

  • @panneiros : i already know that hehe.. i was drunk when i wrote that.. never reread myself .. sorry for that error =) Have yourself a good PoS day

  • @guennille :D

  • @guennille his wife had a baby that died. he's not simply writing about taboo subjects. it's much deeper than that.

  • @guennille Dream Theater's "Goodnight Kiss" is about the same thing. The mother in the song loses her baby and experiences Post-Partum Depression.

  • @diewylis That's great.

  • @guennille yeah thanks Davis, whoever you are

  • @guennille Err Mate, I believe you mean "Daniel" :)

  • they've never played this song live? :S

  • An amazing song from an amazing album even with the depressing but sensitive lyrics.

  • yes,me too.. but its surprising..people are turning to prog without one of the greatest bands ever..

  • li adoro!!!!!!!

  • BE is amazing.

But I am reallllllly suprised to see Pain of Salvation don't get to attention they deserve by the metal auidence. Unbelievable..

  • that's probably because most metal heads just wanna hear 'brutal' screams and such. PoS is prog

  • Of course, that is why i'm surprised.

Bands like opeth, mastodon, porcupine tree and particularly Dream Theater are getting very popular because they are prog. I'm a huge fan of all these bands but what I mean is, they were around long time but they are just becoming really popular/except mastodon and they not strictly prog of course.

POS never did a good album, all are masterpieces in their own right. How come stupid british and us metal media disregard them?

  • I think POS of just too "out there" for lack of a better term. I find, in this day and age, popularity comes with more listeners, and the majority like things simple with a pop edge. Basically POS music is a little more complex than mainstream prog and most can't wrap their head around it.

  • I don't agree with this. It was like that before. BUT progressive music(or well, complex music) gets a lot of attention lately. Thanks to bands like Mastodon, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Tool.

DT got themselves mainstream attention today (not during awake or i&w). Same goes for Opeth too.Same situation is with Devin Townsend as well. He didn't get what he deserves yet.

  • I don't know what to tell ya bro. All I can say is, I hope POS stays unpopular. It seems every band that gets a taste of popularity sells out to some extent and changes their musical style. I loved Awake and I&W but lately DT has become forgettable and boring. Mainstream attention ruins good bands. POS is new and fresh, complex, mysterious, unique. I hope they never change, and if that means never getting the recognition they deserve, so be it, as sad and unfair as that is. Prog on jorninorion!

  • yeah well. in some cases it happens you are right.

I gotta say latest DT is great.

But seeing Devin Townsend and Daniel kinda dissapointed makes me sad. But good news, POS releasing an EP in November!

  • opeth screams quite brutal

    ...?

  • sorry i dont remember why you wrote this commnt to me. and yes mikael is great.

  • Opeth isn't very popular becuase they are prog...they scream brutal screams and gets the metal audience...

and for heaven's sake read for yourself

  • wrong.opeth, mastodon, porcupine tree are all getting popular BECAUSE the way they approached their music. which is highly influenced by prog rock.

but i agree, brutal vocals add points to bands now..

  • i don't know if i'd compare mastodon to opeth and that sound. mastodon is much "dryer" in a sense - its just rock. pure metal. the themes and the lyrics are a bit deeper than other metal bands like pantera and such, but the music is pretty straight forward hard rock with crazy kick ass drumming. except for their new album crack the skye. man was that a disappointment

  • Opeth "growls"; they don't scream

  • there's no need for you to point that out because that had nothing to do with what i meant with that message

  • Was I talking to you? No...

  • hm..that's odd..i could have swore that when i logged on yesterday i saw "1 comment" and when I checked to see what it was, it was exactly that comment i replied to....hm....

  • Whoops; wrong person lol my bad...

  • @Madhouse255 new opeth album has no growls, now your description is fucked

  • @Madhouse255 ... have you heard of Opeth - Soldier Of Fortune .... his voice is not growling... they can sing very well in some of their songs.

  • @TheUnbeholden Yes, I was referring to the moments when he does growl-not scream. I wasn't saying that ALL they did was growl. I own all of Opeth's discography. Yeesh...

  • What movie are these scenes from?

  • Frida.

    :)

  • I understand why people don't like BE, but honestly guys, they're allowed to play things other than metal.

  • i think BE is actually a theyre biggest musical accomplishment. The music in that Album/DVD is more meaningfull and emotional than any other music ive ever heard.

  • hey, good idea.

  • Remedy Lane was my first, listened once (?) and left it for months. Listened again (so so)and then again and it clicked.

They can be a band hard to access but it is worth it.

One Hour By The Concrete Lake to me is second to Remedy. I still dislike Be.

The Acoustic 12.5 is excellent too.

  • Daniel is a lot better than Labrie

  • as much as I love Dream Theater I have to agree with what you said there bout Labrie. Not that I have a prob with him at all.

  • @uttfuyrdeytrfuhfuytr now he is - but seriously, give Labrie a break, he blew out his vocal chords not once, but twice.

  • @uttfuyrdeytrfuhfuytr doesn't mean that labrie is bad though - it just speaks volumes about how good daniel actually is.

  • @uttfuyrdeytrfuhfuytr

thats right man, LaBrie doesn't fit to DT I think...

  • Comment removed

  • @uttfuyrdeytrfuhfuytr You're comparing two totally different genres. Daniel is in a power metal band. Labrie is in a totally different genre. Labrie sings progressive metal, Daniel sings power metal. That's like comparing Albert Einstein to Bill Nye the science guy. Makes no sense, but that's besides the point. Not starting an argument, but my point is you're comparing vocalists from two totally different aspects of music, so of course they're gonna have different sounding vocals and ranges

  • @Geetman pain of salvation is not a power metal band, every singer have different sounding vocals and ranges even if they are in the same genre, Daniel has a much wider vocal range then Labrie, more raw emotion, more versatility. When i listen to Dream Theater i only hear good music with annoying vocals, a good singer with an annoying voice

  • @Geetman I don't like to focus on genres too much, but power metal? Seriously?

I would go as far as to say they're even MORE progressive than Dream Theater

  • @Greensmurf I'd back you up on that. I'm a huge DT fan, but Pain Of Salvation, at least in their stuff from BE and everything before, are far more progressive. But they are two different bands from two different styles within the prog. genre. Eh.

  • @ConsecratedOblivion I know. I love both as well. I meant in terms of creativity and taking risks to try new things. Depends on what you look for in a band really

  • @Geetman you're an idiot.

  • @Geetman how is the song you are listening to right now power metal, let alone PoS who are so clearly not power metal it is unbelievable...

What would you consider power metal? I'm actually interested in the psychology behind a mind as destroyed as yours...

  • Never mind, this song started a bit lame but ended up being amazing! o_O! I'll listen to this album!

  • dinamic, full of hope in the meaning, idon't know why do you say that. Music have to explain all these things, not only the depressive, dark side of a thing.

  • If I wanna start listening to PoS, which album should I start with? Remedy Lane?

  • Haha just start listening to PoS, don't ask someone else witch album!

  • I would recommend The Perfect Element Pt. I.

  • Be is one of their best works imo

  • maybe The Perfect Element Pt. I and Remedy Lane... but first of all... you must learn to listen with your heart... PoS is pure emotion

  • is clear they have a large difference between Awake and Systematic Chaos. But, do you even know what progressive music means?

they never do the same thing. Thats why they are considered progressive musicians, always trying to innovate :)

  • damn thats the comment i wanted to leave

  • I vote for Daniel

  • Even in the 90's Daniel was better than Labrie ;)

And i think DT actual music is so far from what they did in the 90's, compare Awake and Systematic Chaos there's a huge difference.

A question : from what country are you ?

  • Russia

  • Nope. '92 LaBrie is one of the most amazing singers I've ever seen. Daniel is my favourite now but young LaBrie actually destroys Daniel.

  • untuning and screaming like a pig (live in tokyo, and it isn't my opinion, listen to the comentary tracks).

  • Yeah, I can find one gig where daniel sounds like ass too. Look up "Beyond The Pale live" on youtube and go to the "And I remember when you said you'd been under him" section. Probably the worst singing I've ever heard. It actually made me feel embarrassed in my upstairs room while I was alone. I had to turn away.

Then go and search "Dream theater 92" and tell me JLB sounds like a pig

  • jeje, i was trying to say that james was singing better by the time of six degrees or in train of thought, that in the 90's when his mania of reaching the highest note possible, make him sound like a sacrified pig, forgetting the melodical and beautiful colour of his voice in some aspects. I didn't say that daniel sings better (what is possible but i don't want to make an opinion, because it's trivial)

  • try listening to last dt album. it is amazing. the best of times, thecount of tuscany, wither, the shattered fortress. great work of prog rock.

but yeah, daniel is out of this world.he is a fantastic musician.

  • ffs. stop arguing, they are two totally different styled singers. both are amazing. so stfu.

  • Technically, DT is stronger than POS, but musically POS is so much better. Their 6 studio albums are all fantastic, DT made 9 albums but just 4 or 5 are really good. DT plays music for technic but POS for emotion !

And you compare the singers, you can see that Dani Gildenlow is so so so so much better than Labrie...

  • All DT's albums have their selection of great songs.

Granted, some are better than others (Images and Words/Metropolis II) but they are still making great music.

POS are absolutely fantastic, I agree. Better than Labrie vocally? He is now, but back in the early 90's JLB was phenominal.

  • i'm ok with you, Labrie was a fantastic singer in the 90's, especially in Falling into Infinity (i love Lines in the sand).

But i prefer POS music, i think DT is too "cold" for me (if you understand what i mean).

  • aha if you can't "also" feel the emotional side of DT, nobody can do much about it. They do have super technical and super emotional stuff together. u want proof? just listen the best of times, or the second half of the count of tuscany. i say these because these are proving that DT is "still" fuckin killer emotionally

  • Maybe my favourite POS song (with Beyond the Pale of course) !!!

  • Beyond the Pale is my fav and then this one. They are so damn good.

  • This is definitely my favourite song on this album... So far, anyway. Just got it yesterday so I may change my mind with more listens...

  • Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation are different bands. Different. And that's all. As for me, now I do love PoS and just like Dream Theater. Why? Because I discovered Pain of Salvation in certain period of my life, when their music resonated with my thoughts and feelings...

Btw, I wanna visit Dream Theater concert in Moscow, if I could.

Thanks to all of you, sharing my love to this unique formation.

  • ...album and performance. None of this is to say that DT does not have its place in my heart, or in talent, but as a loyal fan to both bands, I cannot place DT or Opeth above PoS in many regards, especially DT currently, although all three are quite amazing. Well, put KansasRushDream. I will clearly be one of the few joining you in turning my head in shame during Rudess' solos this fall.

  • talented singer and one of the most talented songwriters I have ever heard. He doesn't simply wank around on a Continuum for 15 minutes; instead, he writes balanced, diverse, intense and touching music that pulls and pushes in all the right places, balancing the way a song should. Anyone who has listened to "12:5," PoS's live album, could attest to not just all of their ability as musicians, but as song writers, proved by the feat of rewriting most of their material into a truly touching...

  • To consider that you are commenting on one of the best lyrical examples of Gildenloew's writing, I am appalled to hear that you think DT is so much better at writing. Have any of you listened to "Be?" It's a story about God finding himself for chrissakes. If anyone has mastered metaphor, symbolism, allegory, etc. (the things that make quality writing meaningful), it is most definitely Gildenloew. As far as being untalented, it would not be a stretch to say that Gildenloew is the most...

  • we have different tastes is correct, but one thing we have in common, is we like intellectual music not this waterd down shit radio force feeds us. keep prog going strong, whether pos or dt.

  • What film is this, does anyone know?

  • "Frida"

  • Pain of salvation has way to many slow wussy songs, so to say your sick of hearing AA songs im sick of hearing those. they arent painful passionate lyrics because they have basically the same music behind all of those songs.

  • probably the best album ever.....good vid

  • i bought the CD and normally i don't buy music but trust me.. it was worth it !
