  • Not to long ago i saw john noakes on Tv and he was asked about shep and he almost cried and couldnt say much coz he was chocked up.

  • I Got Married that year, & I got my New Collie dog & Yes his name was Shep, But that was Decided before I Got him, Had a Few more an all, Nellie, bess, freddie ,dusty, Jake, The Bitches are best though.

  • @ timtak1 I remember Petra! This was a song that really grabbed a generation. But it is only 30 plus years later that the Petra generation can really make their voice heard

  • No, sorry! When Noakes could not use Shep in adverts, he got another border collie dog Skip. After appearing with Noakes in Go with Noakes, Shep was passed on to a Blue Peter associate Edith Menezes. It was in her care that Shep died on the 17 January 1987.

  • According to wikipedia John was allowed to keep Shep, so I presume that he died in Majorca, since John and his wife had settled down there in 1984.

But then, who remembers Petra and Patch? Petra was the mum. Patch, Noakes' first dog died young.

  • where are they now thanks

  • sherr brilliance!

  • fantastic :) thanks for uploading , i've been having my kids in laughter fits listening to the baron nights, such a shame nice clean humour like this seams to be dead these days. The good old days, literally lol

  • I went to the same school as John Noakes...but not at the same time!! Lol

  • I was not born when they did this but i still love it.

  • dont make them like this anymore what a shame

  • God I remember this! So funny!

  • Shep had the Brains ! LOL

  • God what have I found hear trip down memmory lane.

  • half men biscuit or the deckland swans can touch The Barron Knights. Thinking about it, X factor and boring comerialised tv doesn't have the character of the easy to rib BBC.

  • has anyone got the "loving you" song they sang? Dead funny. If you have then contact me.....

  • John and Shep were really inseperable. When John left the show, he was heartbroken to leave Shep behind, especially as the management of the time would not let John take him.

  • very funny

  • very funny song

    get down shep lol

  • I love the Barron Knights although I've outgrown Blue Peter (Shep was a bit before my time). Great song!

  • Sounds like Arctic Monkeys on the chorus.

  • Yes cheers for that!

  • Good song did they also sing that detective song "Now Columbo don't you call me fatty" been searching it for ages!

  • Is it called king of the cops ?

  • sung by billie howard, it's on here

  • Such good memories of these in my teens live at Webbington country clup HAPPY DAYS

  • The paradies of pop who never took it too seriously but had a lot of fans in the process. I particularly remember this song from the Barron Knights as well as Mr. Rubik from 1981. The Barron Knights always brought some light satire to the trends and fashions of the day.

  • I remember Shep, and apart from Blue Peter, Shep & John was on another TV prog that had Ilkley Moor B'ha T'at as its theme tune (can't remember its name).

I also remember Noakes appearing on a TV programme in the mid-eighties; soemone aked how Shep was and he broke down in tears; the dog had died the week previous.

  • the BBC produced a programme called Fax!, which answered questions posed by viewers. One question was "Whatever happened to John Noakes and Shep?" Noakes and his wife appeared on the show on 20 January 1987 to reveal what he had been doing since retiring from television, and during the course of the interview, Noakes tearfully revealed that Shep had died just days beforehand

  • Thanks for that bit of info. I remember Fax! It was a little bit like 'The One Show'.

I do remember watching that episode about Shep, it was sad.

  • was sad day cried myself watched BP all the way through my school years

  • "Go With Noakes" I believe?

  • Excellent.

    Thanks for that!

  • No problems. somebosdy has uploaded an episode here.

  • Remeber it too ,TV gold ,Think poor presenter was set up on that one ,"go on ask him how Shep is " .So how is Shep ? HEE died last week and I still haven't got over it !

  • It was "Go with Noakes" - a spin-off BBC prog where JN & Shep toured the country.

  • Cute ol Sheppy!!! :)

  • Etc.....................

  • blue peter was ten past 5

  • Wiki says..When the programme first started it was shown once before 17:00 and from the mid-1970s at 17:10 to 17:35. Between 1995 and 2001, it was broadcast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on BBC One from 17:10 to 17:35. From 2002, it was aired at 17:00, because Newsround was moved to a later slot. In 2006 it was broadcast on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. From 2007, still at 17:00 but on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. In May 2007,

  • John used to live in my home town of Halifax. He was well popular.

  • John Noakes was the best Blue Peter presenter ever!

And Shep was the coolest Blue Peter Pet!

  • and he had an awesome last name
