  • people are so rude why can't you just stop watching the videos if you don't like her!?!?!?

  • @rainbowunicorns428 Don't touch the cake! That's what the cloth is for. If you touch it, not only you'll get sticky rosin on your fingers, but the oil on your hand will prevent the rosin from sticking to the horse hair on your bow.

  • 0:43 SINCE WHEN DO U ROSIN UR *VIOLIN*???

  • 0:01- uhhghh LOLZ

  • I just watch these videos because the comments are hilarious!

  • Thanks ;)

  • very funy nukleheadmcspazatron you have good humor you make me laf

  • "My Rosin is very well loved and very well used"...Did she just claim that her rosin is well maintained...WHILE TOUCHING IT?!!! Oh my...*horrified*...

  • @JIMBOOOO233 lol

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks! This answered some questions of mine!

  • Whats with all these negative comments!! The gal's only trying to help and pretty much everything she said seems to make sense to me! Losers

  • the type of hair? darn it i was using sheep hair

  • @segazora Think she may have meant the age/condition of the hair?

  • expert village LIED in the description.it says she played violin in 1990. SHE DOESNT EVEN UNDERSTAND ABOUT ROSIN

  • i went through a lot of hassle to find my password to log in and vote up the what a dick comment. go choke douchebags of the world.

  • Listen Closely.

At the beginning of the video, this is what I heard.

" *Burp* Normally when you pick out a rosin...ect."

    How rude!

  • Looks like she eats some of these rosin cakes ;)

  • @Nanovirus5995 lol u beat me to the cake joke

  • You don't rosin your violin, you rosin your fucking bow. Dumb fucking whore

  • she does sound like she knows her cake tho... LOL

  • did anyone else hear her burp in the beginning!?

  • @MrDerby2u I'm afraid that was the frog ? O_o

    I hate expertvillage lol

  • @91FroSt91 it did sound like a 'ribbit' lol

  • You don't have to scratch the rosin for it to build onto your bow. It just makes the rosin ugly and more easy for chunks to fall off the rosin. all you have to do is scrub the bow hairs striaght onto the rosin.

  • thanks...:)

  • How often should I rosin my bow?????

  • 0:43

    Rosining your bow.*

    Not your violin.

  • @acardon: Fascinating that you put inaccurate information in your comment criticizing the woman for inaccuracies. To all the trolls in this comment stream: it's easy to criticize, hard to create. Where are all your teaching videos?

  • @missypaulin I personally am too busy TEACHING to make videos currently. I seriously doubt that this young lady's teaching services are in any demand whatsoever, this may be why she has time to produce these appalling videos that are indefensible. However a more productive use of her time would be to take some lessons herself as she plays worse than a badly taught, untalented 6 year old. This may seem harsh, but it is true. This crap may be damaging peoples chances to learn violin correctly.

  • bow strings... oh my

  • I actually learnt something from this video. That a piece of rosin is called a CAKE. And she is obviously no stranger to those.

  • how often do you have to re-apply rosin ? like once per practice I imagine ?

  • THE CAKE IS A LIE!!

  • The cloth does not prevent the rosin from drying out, as the lady in the video said. The cloth is there to keep your hands off the rosin because your hands has some oil which will prevent the rosin from sticking to the horse hair. A rosin is made of liquid from tree which is dried out. This info is from a book about violins. If anybody wants to learn the violin buy a book by suzuki. I was told that its the best way to learn violin

  • dear expert village, the person on the video used the word "Drying out". Nothing on the rosin will dry out because its already dry out in the first place. That I found out when I went to the music store to buy another rosin. I told them to give me a rosin which is not dried out.

  • realy thank you

  • Everybody please help with info. I just got my violin today from an online purchase. I tried to rosin the bow but the rosin is rock hard. I tried scratching the surface as the video intstructed then started rubbing the bow against the rosin but it seems no rosin is transferring to the bow and some of the hair started to come off the bow. My question is did they shipped a dried out rosin to me? Is the rosin expired or something. Is the rosin suppose to be rock hard? please i need info thanks

  • isnt she a bit harsh?

as a horse i wouldnt trust any part of my body in her hands

  • i wanna be ur rosin

  • Thanks, I'm learning violin from scratch without a tutor, stuff like this is unbelievably useful! =D

  • HAHAHHAHA! This cow is hilarious! She has nice hair and eyes though ^^

  • u people are perverted!!!! . . . . hehe >:}

  • Nail files aren't sharp...

  • 0:49

  • haha 0:48

  • Thank, I hope this works. my rosin cake didn't seem to work, but I'll try the nail file.

  • The cloth protects the rosin from drying out?? Keeps it from becoming too hard or too melted? No, it's there so you don't get your greasy mitts all over the stuff like you are doing in the video! Seriously, she is a TERRIBLE instructor. Don't listen people!

  • @vissi87 my friend, I need help real bad, I just got my violin today and the rosin is as hard as a stone. I tried rubbing it against the horse hair and a few of the horse hair came off in the process while there seems to be no rosin to have transfered to the horse hair. My question is, Is the rosin suppose to come in like this- rock hard or did they shipped a dried out rosin to me?

Please I need an answer so I could get back on the store where I bought it online.

  • @vissi87 Now you can begin rosining your violin. Hmm? I thought we were rosining the bow, not the violin

  • @Nixlplix where did I say to rosin the violin?

  • @vissi87 you didn't...the woman in the video did...I was just adding to why this video is kind of bad. Then again expertvillage isn't known for their experts.

    fapfapfapfapfapfap

  • oh thank you, that really helped, but my rosin seems to be too dry, I mean when I try to apply it to my bow, it still looks the same, and there is a scratch in it, but it just doesn't seem to be letting anything off

  • thank you :)

  • I use this stuff to keep guitar picks from slipping out of my fingers. This stuff isn't poisonous or carcinogenic... is it?

FYI: You can easily score it with the edge of a dime (or other coin with a rough edge i.e. not a penny.) No need to cut a finger off fooling around with sharp objects.

  • . . . rosen is tree sap. Very organic.... it won't hurt you. Unless you ingest like 5 lbs or so but taste it first to be sure if you like the flavor. hahaha

  • Thanks.

FYI, organic doesn't mean non-toxic. I felt morally obligated to point that out.

  • UR hot babe

  • my rosin is green and u can't see thro it it's problay espanceof cus this really rich lady gave me her violien sicne it's a stundent violienit's problay cheap idk

  • Wish she could rosin my bow... haaa its just a joke

  • What a dick! respect people.

  • mby but i sure learned how to rosin a bow

  • umm.... no.. don't listen to her, she's making up nonsense AGAIN. geez... what is the point??

  • i was wondering if i can still learn to play violin without much trouble... i'm turning 22 next year btw...

  • There is no age to start learning an instrument. You have one life to live, I say GO FOR IT! and good luck if you do! :D

  • right you are. Playing music is basic to living rich rich richly. Go for it and squeeze all the enjoyment out of each note.

  • I just bought a violin and was stuck since my new bow did not make any noise so this video set me in the right direction, I was not sure what that little amber thing was, now I know... Much Thanks.

  • she is an idiot look at some of her other videos, one she says her violin is mahogany, they don't usually make mahogany instruments, and a metal bow? wtf? I play guitar and know more about her violin than she does. and she pisses me off when she talks. A beginner can help others if they know what they're talking about. Gain some knowledge.

  • my rosan is in a box a rectanger box and it is a see throo

  • Your video was helpful to me.

Please ignore the boneheads who assume that only people with godlike knowledge can help others to learn.

Aside: Why are people complaining of "not touch" strings vs. resin? Is there a real issue there, or is it merely imagined?

  • You recomend do not touch the hair of the arc in other video becouse the skin grass but you touch de Resin with your fingers before passing it on the hair!! And forget explain in this video that all Resin is protected with plastic structure or suplyed with a litle clothe just for aboid touching it directly. haha!!!

  • this cracks me up everytime i watch it HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, just think dirty, people :)

  • oh lol so THATS how you rosin it XD

  • I think all her videos start with "Beginner Violin Instruction:" because it is a beginner giving violin instruction.

The cloth is there to protect the rosin and keep it clean so stop putting your greasy fingers all over it!

  • i dont know why everyone is hatin'. I've been doing reseacrh about the violin cuz i want to buy one, but i cant afford lesson and her information is much like the other information im getting and it seems pretty legit.

  • idiot. shes not a teacher, DRYING OUT? BECOMING TO HARD! WHAT! melting can happen but only if left in direct sunlight. she has absolutley NO clue wat shes talking about

  • Comment removed

  • i just brought a new violin and bow but when i went to play it the sound it made was very wispy which ass you said probubly means it hadnt been rosined that often. is there anything i can do about that or would a have to buy a new set of hairs?

  • You probably haven't put enough rosin...a way I test is i take the bow and i bow across my forearm and if there's any rosin on my skin I'm good to go and I don't rosin it again until it starts making that whispy sound....

  • the oils from your skin will eventually ruin your bow that way.

  • just rosin it and that should solve your issue

  • your look alike of my past Girlfriend thanks

  • Comment removed

  • oh yes, she obviously "loves her cake"

  • u totally burned her xD

  • EVERY ONE IS NOW STUPIDER HAVING WATCHED THIS!!!

Rosin does NOT drie out, you spoke for over a minute and did not even mention 2 basic things

    1. how often should one rosin thier bow?

    2. what is the difference between expensive and cheap rosin?

    3. All bows have the same type of hair, different only by color. Your ingnorance about the violin should not be spread to others,

  • how offten should you ?

  • if you play every day, about once a week,, but there should never be a cloud of rosin coming from the bow... thats too much

  • whenever you NEED to, which means, when there begin to be slippery spots on your bow that are not producing much sound, you need rosin. Depending on how much you play and how fresh your bow hair is, that could be a couple times a day or once every other week. I used to practice 4 hours a day and probably applied rosin twice a day. I also wore through my bow hair about every 3 months and required new hair. but again, only apply rosin when you need it, otherwise your sound will be scratchy

  • @acardon Um, actually, not all bows have the same 'type' of hair. Some have horsehair, some synthetic.

  • @missypaulin Um actually:

ya great contribution, but I was pointing out that regardless of what your bow is made you will rosin your bow the same. If you actually watch the video she says "Depending on the type of hair on your bow" making it seem that when it comes to rosin you some how treat some bows different from others..

Violin is difficult enough we don't need morons going around telling people that their rosin will dry out, as well as dozens of other things that are just plain false

  • @acardon I'm afraid that not all bows have the same type of hair ... I don't play violin and I know this very well..

stop criticizing her .. because your information is inaccurate as well..

  • @91FroSt91 Actually generally bows have same type of hair, which is horse hair and almost all bows are White Stallion hair sorry but Im a beginner level violinist andI know that

  • @91FroSt91 Actually generally bows have same type of hair, which is horse hair and almost all bows are White Stallion hair sorry but Im a beginner level violinist and I know that and the only differences are quality of the hair

  • @JPLGaGa123 I'm not a violinist... I'm a bassist but I know enough about music ... Some bows have synthetic hair ... It's not only Horse Hair with different qualities.

  • @91FroSt91 Oh sorry I only know of natural horse hair bows (here in the Philippines bow hair choices are kinda limited) :)

  • @JPLGaGa123 Hehe it's okay ... The fact that you have only horse hair is a good thing :)

Synthetic hair bows are cheap and have a really bad quality.

I wish I could have played violin but sadly there aren't many places here in Egypt that would teach you how to play it XD

Enjoy your violin and hopefully you become a really big and great artist :)

  • @91FroSt91 Thank you !:D I hope you do great on your bass too!! :))

  • @91FroSt91 If you are watching these videos then YES you will never play the violin....

And I say again Everyone is now dumber having watched any of these videos....

  • pretty good although I do not speak English q ay be of great value to stand for a camera and give a class I congratulate you because I am a beginner, and I am learning and these materials are helpful for novices as to what the other comments and lei, I think the absurd Bone antipathy of the people then make susu own videos .. deity with the most respect I say that ...

  • You have no idea what you're doing. I'm a professional violinist in NYC, and have rarely seen such frightful technique from someone posing as a teacher.

    1. Learn to hold the bow properly. Your pinky is atrocious--and is the least of your right hand problems;

    2. Learn to tune the violin. It is absolutely flat, by almost a semitone;

    3. Learn to draw a solid tone. Your bow is shaky and unbelievably unstable;

    4. Learn what bows are made of. They are not of mahogony.

  • "Arrogant...Know-it-all." Let's see your credentials.

I was replying to a terrible "instructional" video. Read through others' posts and you'll see I'm not alone.

  • Hello...? This video is really stupid.. We don't know if she's a professional violinist.. ericjfl is just expressing herself.. And there's nothing wrong in her statement. I'm a violin instructor too.. And I agree w/ ericjfl..

  • how is she proffesional she stuffed up her scales in the other videos and im pretty sure she does not know the different ypes of scales

  • Another pro violinist and teacher from NYC here -- and you are SO right. That is the worst overall technique I have ever seen from a student.. and she's pretending to be a teacher! I cannot even fathom how a student gets such a bad technique and gets so many things wrong..I mean, in another video she was talking about mahogany violins and metal bows..I mean, how do you even make that nonsense up?

  • this girl doesnt know what she talking about, i use rosin for bull riding and the bag doesnt protect them and they cant dry out, when ur handling it, it gets it hand sticky, i like amber lower melting point then black and cakes up less

  • I would strongly recommend professorV's videos. He is an excellent teacher!

  • thanks it was really helpfull.

  • Thank you this was really helpful, as before i took to the rosin with my nail file it was taking me ages!!!!

    thanks

  • If you do not agree with what this woman is saying in her video then make your own video & refer us to the one you created on this subject. The words you use in your comments show your personality Loud and Clear!!!

At Least she is trying to help others. Get rid of your attitude and show us your Video!!

No one comes here looking to read someone else's unconstructive criticism.

    Adj. 1.unconstructive - not constructive

    unhelpful - providing no assistance

    Constructive Criticism People!

  • i do

  • i lol'd when she started talking about cake.

  • I'd also like to add that scratching the surface is NOT NECESSARY for any good grade rosin, and can in fact make it very fragile or even cause it to crack

  • What is the consistency of rosin? Is it like a block of glass?

  • its stuff that comes from a tree the stuff in jerrasic park in the first few scenes is rosin which contains a mosquito in it from millions of years ago.

  • "And you'll start to rosin your violin." Wtf?

Moving the rosin up and down the entire length of the bow shaft effectively does nothing. You have to scrub slowly back and forth over a SMALL AREA, inching your way up to the tip.

That's nice your "fine cloth" protects the rosin from so many things, but what do you do to protect yourself from eating it, fatass?

  • Ha ha. That was a nice burn

  • wow i fell over laughing

  • Uhhhhhhh. Your not supposed to touch the part of the rosin that comes in contact with the bow. Jeeze.

She sounds like Miss South Carolina.........

  • my rosin is black????

  • yes, and that's fine. the woman in the video doesn't know what she's talking about.

  • rosin comes in a huge array of shades, from almost clear to black. the most common colors are brown, dark green, or yellow/orange. but there are some that are almost black, and even synthetic types of rosin that are perfectly clear. professionals may use any type or color, just depending on their personal preference. but no one shade is better than another.

  • fraggleferret -

Thanks for the comments on these videos. I want to buy a violin soon and have been watching videos on the subject. It wouldn't have occurred to me that her advice is less than ideal (so darn perky.) I'll look around for other videos.

  • you idiot. Rosin is not always amber. And you never need to scratch it. The cloth does not protect the rosin from drying out. Hello, it has holes in it! And no, rosin does not melt unless you put in in a very hot pan. It protects everything else in your case from getting ruined by the rosin. Stop making shit up. REally. It's getting really old.

  • hah, you're kind of high strung, eh? nothing like hostility toward people in videos...you should be ashamed.

  • no, this time the hostility is justified. she's going to confuse and mislead a lot of people with her nonsense. it's really disgusting of her to put these videos out. and people need to be warned not to listen.

  • @fraggleferret my friend I just got my violin today from an online purchase. I need info please. Is the rosin suppose to be rock hard? I tried to rub it against the horse hair even if its hard and a few horse hair come off the bow. Sorry I dont really know anything about violins and have no instructor yet. Is there anything i could do to make the rosin soft again? Thanks

  • @ThePrayerHotline Did you even watch the video?? She clearly explains this. Oh wait, you're obviously a religious zealot spammer

  • @Nixlplix I believe its you who didnt watch the video. She said the cloth prevents the rosin from DRYING OUT. To a person who does not have prior knowledge of anything about violin, that means the rosin is not rock hard but soft like gel or something. You sir are so eager to pull the trigger because you are so full of hatred in your heart. May God deal with you accordingly

  • @ThePrayerHotline you don't know me, so whatever. I thought you were referring to being unable to get the rosin on the hairs after scraping it like she says to do in the video. That will loosen some of the rosin. Even then it's hard to tell if it actually stuck to the bow until you play. If it sounds squeaky or there's no sound then you need more rosin.

  • @Nixlplix Thank you for your reply. I do appreciate it. When i 1st sought info from commenters here, I was in panic mode having bought a set that has bow losing hair & taking into account this video from "expertvillage" using phrases "dried out", "too hard", "too melted" and purpose of the cloth, all of which I didnt know was erroneous. I got no info here but from books that i read. Have a nice day friend

  • What is a Rosin

  • rosin is a product that is rubbed on the bow hair. without rosin, the bow hair would make no sound on the string. rosin is made of tree sap. it is sticky, and leaves a sticky chalk on the bow hair that allows it to contact the strings with enough friction to produce a sound. if you get too much rosin on your bow, though, it will sound very scratchy.

  • thanks

  • Thanks a lot! I was looking for something like this, =D

    Greetings from Argentina!
