  • Reason this is one of my favorite songs:

Lisa and Hayley on stage... at the same time.

  • Beautiful....just Beautiful....the sound is Awesome...

    E1

  • BOBBY DARRIN WOULD BE PROUD!

  • You guy's know they still sing right?

  • I really love Hayley Westenra and the Celtic Women, their voices are great and they are so beautiful, but I really hate this song (which is absolutly not celtic), written by Charles Trenet (I really dislike this singer).

  • @LEGOFFMARTINEAU...First of all, it has never been said that Celtic Woman would only sing Celtic or Irish music....Second this song was not written by Charles Trenet..Trenet had composed "La Mer" (which means "The Sea") with French lyrics totally different and unrelated to the English language version that Jack Lawrence composed.

  • @gaeilge1O1

sorry you are right, but for me writing and composing mean the same (in french writing means "writing" the music)...

  • I love their angelic voices. I do have videos of their concerts.

  • I miss these ladies.

  • I´ve never listen to Celtic Woman, its not my kind of music. But I went for Hayley (saw her on the Rugby WorldCup Final) to hear her sing. And Boom there was Meav! She left me speechless. Her voice is so smooth and warm...was it Breathtaking,Lovely,Wonderful.? It was something beyond that.

  • I would give anything to be able to have the opportunity to learn under their wing...I love their music so much..it inspires to sing more and more, practicing until can practice no more. Their music is so amazing. I hope I get to meet these women some day~ <3

  • this song is from Finding Nemo

  • @HORSESNDOGS9 You mean Finding Nemo used this song.

  • I WANT HAYLEY"S DRESS!!! AND ORLA"S!!!!!!!

  • @awesomekoolaid1 "Not as good as on real live TV??/" Baloney! They sound even better live than they do in these recorded concert performances. No lip-syncing here; just a bunch of really talented performers doing their thing.

  • I always hear 'and watches the shoe's that go sailing' at 0:30 LOL.

  • 50 people listen to Rebecca Black's "Friday."

  • @TheOnlySez 53 D: they are riproducing!

  • this is truly enchanting

best composition this Earth ever had the good grace to hear

and to those 50 people who dislike this: You either were crying and couldn't see the like button through your tears, or you were looking for Justin Beiber.

  • they have THE most beautiful voices. and they're so gorgeous!

  • the third girl, at 1:40, who is she? i think she sings the best!

  • @victorchapin3 You mean the one with shoulder length blond hair? She's Méav Ní Mhaolchatha.

I think so too. Her voice is amazing.

  • @victorchapin3: Her full name is Méav Ní Mhaolchatha. You can pronounce her first name "Méav" like Maeve, or mave.

  • Oh, Hayley right at 53-53!!!!!!!!!

  • @ghosthelper100 She probably wasn't supposed to be singing there.

  • 4 years ago, this concert got my beautiful son Connor to sleep every night without fail. This has always been my favourite song of the concert and 4 years on still gives me tingles <3

  • @thepurplewitch333 Sorry but the appropriate word is LADY of ANGEL.

  • @Gizmologist09 .........either way .... she can play a damn fiddle.

  • I can't stop to listen this. So beautiful, sweet, awesome.... <3

  • Angels, they are angel’s....

Their call is universal, and anyone can admit that this number strings a thread in our hearts. If I die tomorrow I can safely say I have heard the song of angels and I would die with a smile on my face as I go Beyond the Sea.

Thank you for uploading this comrade, may peace be with you ^_^

  • awesome. at the end, (this really happened), i put my hands down to clap, but stopped myself, thinking "its a video."

  • Gasp. I never realized one of my old favorite songs could be re-done so beautifully.

  • Nah. I don't like this one. Way too slow and every syllable is draaaagged out. Great voices and all but.. eh. Not for this song imo

  • only they can make this song likeable heheh love celtic woman!!

  • Lisa Kelly is and most likely always will be my favorite, but i think Meav steals the show in this song...her solo part is amazing!

  • @awesomekoolaid1 Its cause the TV shows don't have proper equipment

  • i love their dresses!!! :) they're so beautiful. Not to mention talented

  • Is this the song Damian just sang for his last chance performance? (Glee Project)

  • @beyondthehorizon99 Yes it is!(:

  • @beyondthehorizon99 Yea Damian did this song on TGP but Bobby Darrin is hte original singer. It's a song that's gone through a lot of artists but most of hte versions I've heard are pretty nice.

  • @TheFergme Bobby Darin probably listened to this song on the radio when he was a boy. A lot of the big band orchestras of the 40s recorded it with various singers.

  • @beyondthehorizon99: Yes, it is. However, I like Celtic Woman's version better.

  • Orla has really nice hair!

  • when i here this sing, it's like my heart is burning inside me and sometimes i'll even tear up. this has got to be one of the most moving songs I've ever heard

  • Some people pay attention to just Chloe. She's amazing, and so are the others.

  • Starting at 1:30, it reminds me of a little princess a bit, the '95 version.

  • My favourite song!!! they made it so beautiful! Their voices are so angelic! <3

I met them all and they are the sweetest girls ever!

  • Celtic Woman needs to have a big reunion where all the members, past, present and future, perform a bunch of their songs

  • Máiréad is, I feel, the best in the group. But, this is just one person's opinion

  • Is it a cover of Dalida's "La Mer"??

  • @fotonetka...Not really..."Beyond the Sea" is a 1946 contemporary pop song with music taken from the song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet. Trenet had composed "La Mer" (which means "The Sea") with French lyrics totally different and unrelated to the English language version that Jack Lawrence composed.

  • @gaeilge1O1 Thanks for answer :)

  • @fotonetka yes

  • The harmony, the orchestrations, the beauty of the lyrics all combine to make a masterpiece.

  • Absolutely love this song, reminds me of the seemingly endless wait I had to go through untill I was able to leave my native UK and be with my love in the US.

  • oh well look at that...MOTHER FLIPPING ANGELS

  • They look like angels...

  • @SmurfTwilight They are angels!

  • why is miley cirus in the list of the songs by celtic woman?

  • I love Chloe just the way she is.

  • One of them looks like a young Teri Garr.

  • ohh i love this song it makes me sleepy though hahah :)

  • if this is what a siren sounded like, its no wonder sailors were always lost at sea xD

  • @IJustWant2WatchAnime

These are not the voices that will lure you to your death, they are thee choir that will welcome you upon your arrival at the gates of heaven.

  • The most beautiful voices that I have heard in such a long time. I would love to see them in person. I can't see why anyone would not like their singing. Unless all they like is hard rock?. I for one enjoy the singing.

  • i wonder how 46 people not like a beautiful song sung by 5 beautiful ladies with such angelic voices.

  • Stop with the stupid little fights just cause you dont like what some people say doesnt mean you have to bash them get over yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yep, I can die now. Angels are calling so catch yall in heaven ^_^

  • Their names shouldn't be celtic woman but Voices of angels <3

  • A performance not to be missed.

In this instance, not my 'cup of tea'.

  • CELTIC ANGELS WOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • @Saunn

That's a good point. And I suppose that I'm not really being fair to the singers; after all, they aren't *bad*, and I've not heard anything else by them. Still, it's hard not to worry about a particular, more popular cover of a song pushing the the other covers into obscurity. Look at what the chordettes did to "Mr. Sandman" as compared to the more original version by the mills brothers.

  • Madrigal!

  • which is Chloe?

  • @jinglefghi...Chloe is the "girl" with the very long blonde hair. If you pause at :30 Chloe is the one on the right...She is the youngest member of the group, she was 17 when this performance was recorded on July of 2006...

  • I don't think Chloe is the prettiest, just because my tastes lean more towards Lisa Kelly (shame that she's married, oh well! Good for her), Hayley Westenra and the Pixie Mairead Nesbitt. But Chloe IS (they all are!), talented, and I LOVE her long hair. IF, and this is a BIG IF, Chloe is a 'big girl' it is not because of fat: just look at her! It is because of build. But she carries it well, and her personality shines through and overpowers everything Else.

  • Chloe is the prettiest amongst these ladies that is for sure. But they all have amazing voices, love to hear them sing.

  • Jeez, this sounds exactly like the recorded song. Sure this is live...?

  • @flippofem...it sounds like the recorded song because this was recorded live for the DVD/CD....

  • okay, every one is way to uptight about the weight, expressing any reference to it shows your way to uncomfortable with your own (both the people who are saying one of the singers are overweight and the people jumping to her defense.)

what i wanted to say before i saw 50 comments arguing about weight is it's odd they're doing this song because they typically do celtic songs and this song is originally french ("la mer")

  • @TheLionVulture They do songs from all countries. I was looking at the songs on the sidebar links to the right and counted 6 different countries. Even their Celtic songs are arranged to fit US tastes.

"Celtic Woman" describes them, not their music.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat

that is absolutely true, but most of there songs are gaelic in origin and the ones they do from other countries tend to use the language it was written in, it's just an oddity. too be fair, i don't know many people who listen to french , music, i tend to enjoy gaelic french italian and some spanish so i recognize songs that come out in america when they're just remakes while every one else raves about how awesome and unique it is. lol. * see next comment

  • @TripBoomLikeThat

i just think that doing it in original french would have fit they're style, voices and avoided alot of the people saying that it's not as good as the 'original' *cough*remake*cough*

  • @TheLionVulture Absolutely, I agree 100%. La Mer would have have been a perfect song for them when they had this group. They sing Italian songs well, so I doubt the French would be a problem. And, as you said, it would end the silly references to "the remake".

    Great comment.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat exactly, and they normally perform songs better than anyone else i hear, with the exception of Níl Sé'n Lá which to be fair it's phenomenal, but i had a friend sing that one in the perfect setting for that + she was off the boat irish and an amazing singer, so accent everything was perfect... but that was a freak situation. they're still the best.

  • @TheLionVulture Agreed!

  • @TripBoomLikeThat...I think your right...they just sang a verse of "You Raise Me Up" in Japenese when they were there promoting the upcoming Japanese tour..

  • @gaeilge1O1 They do seem, to be able to sing anything don't they. Also, I noticed that Lisa Lambe spoke German very well, maybe there will be some German songs in the future. They really sound great in the new music on Youtube.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat...If someone uploads anything from one of the German performances, I am sure you'll hear them singing in German.....I know they did, it's just a matter of someone uploading it...

  • @gaeilge1O1 Thanks, I hope that makes it to youtube.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat.....Yup it has made it to You Tube...watch?v=oKhB785GJ5s It's the version they did for the promotional "trailer" that have been airing on German TV...But it's the same arrangement that they are doing during the live performances...

  • @gaeilge1O1 Thanks Bob. It sounds very haunting in German - I like haunting.

  • @gaeilge1O1 Thanks for letting me know. They sound great.

  • @gaeilge1O1 Yep they did! :D I saw them yesterday in Düsseldorf and they performed Over The Rainbow in German. It was wonderfull. I'll see them again in the Netherlands on 27 September, can't wait! :D

  • @TheGeantrai they're coming to Holland??! :DDD where? and is it possible to pre-order tickets right now? gahh i've GOT to go see them

  • @imwithstupid243 Yep! :D They'll be in the Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn Theater in Utrecht. But in case you don't know, you won't be seeing this line-up. The current members are Lisa Kelly, Máiréad Nesbitt, Chloë Agnew from this group, joined by Lisa Lambe the newest member. Doesn't matter, they're still incredible! :D

  • @TheGeantrai haha thanks! definitely going to go see them! and yes, i knew the group had changed, they still amaze me though :)

  • @TheGeantrai right, my tickets have been reserved, and the awesome seats were still available, thanks!!! :D

  • @TheLionVulture...Trenet had composed "La Mer" (which means "The Sea") with French lyrics totally different and unrelated to the English language version that Lawrence composed. Trenet's French version was an homage and ode to the changing moods of the sea, while Lawrence, by just adding one word "Beyond" to the title, gave him the start whereby he made the song into one of a lover pining for a lost love.

  • @TheLionVulture.....You are 100% correct about the weight thing.....it's sad that everyone brings it up, but I will defend Chloe as long as people make remarks about her weight...

Part 2...Celtic Woman came together as a result of PBS wanting to air a show with "Irish" singers. So we get Celtic Woman, Lisa Kelly in an interview said "No one ever said that Celtic Woman would only sing traditional "Irish/Celtic" songs." It's geared largely towards the American audience.

  • Wish they'd perform this song again with Lisa L., Lisa, and Chloë

  • Believe it or not. Healthy Weight ≠ Skinny.

Skinny and Fat are both bad. Any doctor would tell you that.

  • it is like listening to angels............it is a dream come true, for true music lovers .........

  • Meav & Órla! <3

  • i'd kill just to be a rodie for these girls

  • @Glaceon2090...That is Mairead Nesbitt...she's been with CW since the start. She is playing a 300 year old violin.

  • they're all just amazing... stunning... wow. Don't know what to say, just wow.

And I LOVE this fiddle! <3

  • these are all beautiful talented women...it is the narrow thinking that all performers must fit a certain body type that makes us lose the opportunity to hear truely angelic voices. I'd much rather hear talent and gift then see mediocrity. I applaud all of these women for their love of music and their graceful performances

  • they r all so pretty, just like angels <3

  • this is magic

  • @rastagunmaster So go watch men sing if thats your thing. Pop songs dont have a sex.

  • Comment removed

  • Wish CW would perform this song again...and with the old along with new members of CW...that would be amazing!!!♥

  • Mairead Nesbitt.... Wow....just.... Wow....

  • Bobby Darin would've been so awestruck!

  • @tvtimetravel NO DOUBT. He would've loved this.

  • I love this version!!

  • Comment removed

  • The MELODY & the BEAUTY !!!!...

  • It's just so incredible. Perfect!!

  • I had the pleasure ,and I do mean pleasure, of seeing Celtic Woman at Radio City Music Hall,New York.To be there along with the ambiance that is Radio City is pure magic.

Stunning,.Cannot say anymore because there are no words.

  • I've already listened to this four times in a row. Now for another 40.

    Phenomenal!

  • I like how they sing, but it's a SWINGING song. It's not meant to be sung slow by a quadret of women, especially not to the background of new age synth.

Don't get me wrong; If they sang something original, I might like them, but they're simply ruining a classic.

  • @Fallout3MK2 The genre of this song is "Big Band" not jazz. Bobby Darin sang it as a jazz song, but it had been around since the 40's, and even longer as the french song La Mer. There is just no set way to perform pop songs.

Celtic Woman does a lot of songs written by their musical director and members of the group.

  • @IntoTheMystical

True, but "Swing" has no real definition, at least not in wide use. It can refer to jazz, big band, or many other similar styles.

Stupidly, I hadn't realized that this and La Mer were one and the same. Thanks!

I'll poke around, see if I can't find an original song. Are there any you happen to like?

  • @IntoTheMystical

Also, although there are no "Right" ways to perform a pop song, there are many wrong ways. A hip-hop version of "Lazy river", for example, would be wrong, no matter how you tried to put it.
