Also, McCallum will make to order, an assymetrical pipe chanter (ask for the Bob Ash design), which suits the position of the hands more comfortably than the standard. You can choose from a 10- or 15 degree offset for the bottom 4 (right hand) holes. Birls suddenly get a whole lot easier to play! And the sound is amazing.
McCallum Pipes are fantastic. As well as African Blackwood, McCallums are now making pipes in Acetyl (a black plastic that has all the looks and sound of blackwood, but can't crack or warp - ideal!) I ordered a new set of Acetyl pipes last summer- fully mounted with engraved nickel. They look like a silver-mounted set - and for a quarter of the price! Now, all my pupils are keen to have one of these. I don't want to stop playing them!
and one more note......dont take you tube piper advise on pipes ....go ask grade 1 pipers and say ya i "settled" for a set of hardies for my first pipes and they will say what do you mean settled
you need to get those hardies off the floor and please stop banging them around it hurts to watch..but really those pipes you own are an elite set. henderson bla bla are like gibson guitars, they are expensive because who made them thats all. you have the jackson guitar of bagpipes right there. not decorated with silver and ivory to cover up the bad sound but hardie never needed to.i have a set of hardies 72 grainger campbells 78 and dunfions none hold a candle to hardies
What was the name of the place where you bought these? I've been looking in for a place that sells pipes in ontario, especially the toronto area if you know of any.
1 piece of advice dont lie your pipes out on a concrete floor

A teacher of mine of the College of Piping Glasgow (Jimmy Young) told me:
Never ever put your Pipes on the floor....
The reason? "Ups... I lost balance... what was this cracking sound...?!"
