wow i never knew there was a REAL house which was the birthing house, im currently doing research onit, and resently brought the book on Halloween 2011. I think its chilling and the nightmares conrad the Husband in the book is sort of frightening. what made me intrested is where his dads with him and also when hes looking around the house first time he see's the first ghost which is a woman. He saw her but the other man didnt, i cnt wait to read more :D
Forgot to mention my disdain over the use of 'Walmart' in the story. How wonderful it would have been to hear a less destructive establishment presented in the book. I was discriminated out of a job due to being an openly gay assistant manager there. 14 years down the tubes thanks to discrimination. So each time I hear the 'W' word, it makes my stomach churn!
Loved it completely. Gerbil Wheel, 70's bad ass stache . . . Where does Chris get all his descriptions? They are amazing. Now I have nightmares but I do wake up. That is when I realize I am not the character in this book with a $500,000 check. What a wonderful story and one I highly recommend.
iv just finished it!!! was very good. however...i think the author didnt portray the horror as well as he could... not like steven king!!! but then, i am a complete steven king fanatic and have only just started branching out with my literature. having said that, very good book. would read it again,,and probably will!!!

I've nearly finished reading this novel. It's really gripping but yes, I have to admit also, I was a little let down by the lack of horror.
