haha i'm very glad you asked. indeed they are! when you play with the two-hand technique you don't have another hand to mute unwanted strings like when you play guitar normally you use the strumming hand to mute. So instead i use socks.

Great show.
I think the socks add a good bit of "damping" to the strings & get that harpsichord quality of tone.
