  • Ralph sings this like the Old Regular Baptist,my dads church which is much like Primitive

Baptist. There will never be another like Ralph,I love you Ralph,Bless you for touching us~

  • The Blues is the Blues no matter who you are. I don't see the difference between this and Son House. Both are under appreciated. Both have have tremendous power. Love this.

  • If it gets any better than this i just haven't heard it.

  • @mycatslistentome I have to agree. I can listen to that song over and over and it still tears me up.

  • No one can do music like this better than Dr. Ralph Stanley.

Was raised on this type music.

  • born and raised primitive baptist Acapulco was the rule

  • Joseph Morris here, from e. Ky. Livein in Mi. Know 4 my son.Ilove down home gospell!!

  • That harmony gives me chills...

  • I was born and raised a Catholic, so I missed out on all of this great music! Please keep songs like this coming!

  • @CathyMae12345 Thank you for the comment I appreciate it.

I was raised Baptist and this was the mountain music I cut my teeth on so to speak.

Have you looked at the rest of my videos as well?

Some are more modern Bluegrass but still GREAT music.

Thanks for posting the kind words and God Bless.

  • @CathyMae12345

    same here!

  • I was raised in the Old Regular Baptist and this the way I like to hear my gospel! Almost Home was the first song I ever learned...you need to hear Ralph sing that one!

    Restore thy Brother" ? pls

  • I love this song i can't decide which i like more ralphs version or roscoe holcombs

  • SO gorgeous! If it's good when Dr. Ralph sings it solo, it's brilliant when it's done quartet style. Thanks so much for posting. They don't make music like this anymore.

  • I remember ralph and carter singing this on my back porch in Kentucky with my mom and dad.. btw this was my dad not me!

  • Singing like we sang at Church when I was growing up in Eastern Kentucky

  • Very beautiful singing. Just wish I could find more like this.

  • go to myspacedotcom/eastwickyungboyz and check out my music

  • Sure would be nice to have one of the song six more miles by Larry Sparks. Just a suggestion.

  • I will see what I can do thanks.

I just posted one of Doyle Lawson check it out and let me know what you think.

The title is River of Tears

  • I just want to say thank you for the song/video. I just found it on here and reminds me of listening to it years ago with my dad. He passed away back in June of 2009 and as I sit here balling my eyes out thinking of him and I sitting around passing a jar of shine back and forth. He cried couldn't hold back the tears when he heard this song. I know know why. I sure miss my ol man. He always called these type song tear jerkers. Thanks again. And keep em coming.

  • And Steeleman1963 is totally right....there will NEVER be another recreation of this. It simply cannot be duplicated.

  • Thanks for the comments. I have listened to this recording probaly several hundred times and It still makes the hairs stand up on me. Thanks Dr,. Stanley for this wonderful and timeless recording.

  • Thanks for the comment. I want to make some more videos of Ralph Stanley just not sure what song I am looking for. Right now I am leaning towards the Drunken Driver just not sure yet.

Keep checking back and I will have another one hopefully soon.

  • You cannot forget that you have three of the best Bluegrass singers that ever lived behind Ralph on this song. Ricky Skaggs - tenor, Keith Whitley - bass and Roy Lee Centers - baritone. There is so much vocal talent and power collected on this song it is hard to comprehend.

  • I'm really glad i found this song and video.. I haven't heard this song in years... Gives me chill bumps its so good.....

    Thx for posting

  • Thank you. I love the new and the old but the stuff like this makes my hair stand up.

There will never be another sound like this. It cannot be duplicated.

Ralph Stanley has a sound that will never be copied.

    Thank you

  • One of mom's favorite songs. There use to be several ministers in the Burning Springs, Mates Creek and Rock Springs Assocations of Old Baptist that were equal to Ralph.

  • the acapella songs are really touching

  • Thank you very much. No one could sing this song like Ralph Stanley.

    A living legend

  • In 1973 when I was in college, I used to be mesmerized by this song. I knew one day I would have to deal with my own mother's death. It came on 12/7/2008. It is true, pure mountain music that has no equal.

  • Thank you for your comment. I am sorry for the loss of your Mom. I still have my mother but I know in the future I will be facing the same thing that you have recently went through with your loss.. And I am sure this song will then take on a whole new meaning. May God Bless you and your family.

  • I appreciate your response and sentiment. Check out the vid my niece put together for my song The Promise and the Vid on "Irene", my mother. I will tell you that even though Mom lived to 91, you're never ready. Happy Merry to you and yours.

  • This song is really moving. Ralph has done an amazing job during his lifetime with putting the true soul into gospel hymns like this one! 5 Stars+!

  • I agree this is a hauntingly moving song,
