@pwnsaurus No really a cartoon, from what I know. Anime means animation, while cartoon comes from multiplication. Animation means drawing objetcs which are actually animated in a similar way in real life - humans, explosions, ships etc., while cartoon puts in motion objects which dont act like that in reality - cats and mouses like in tom and jerry, enviroment which does not act according to the natural laws and so on.
P.S.: I attended some drawing\animation lessons, thats where I got this info.

@craternem i wanted to forget that i watched captain america, wish marvel would have just given the japanese a story base line to follow, and allowed them to put their own creative input, they are a lot better at story telling, a lot of animes have incredible stories and character development.....the punisher needs an anime the most, he suffered 3 dreadfull movies!!!

Disney is the only animation studio to animates on 1's (that's the highest quality you can get for those who don't know), and their animation tends to be top notch, clean, detailed, etc. That's why they're more popular in the animation world. See my other comment as to why animation in Japanese anime is actually behind everyone else.
@kemuael Um....Japanese anime (strictly speaking about the animation quality itself, nothing else) is at the bottom of the animation totem pole and Disney is at the top, yes. Why are you questioning an animator whose thoroughly studied/practiced this for years when you clearly don't know what you're talking about?
@TheSCCP I think the Japanese better understand the medium's ability to reach a broader audience and they definitely have a dynamic animation style for their various television programs but I wouldn't say they're the masters.
I think they are cus they do a lots of animes with high qualities since the 60's I think. All of we know about many things like camera movements, colors etc, begun with japs. About histories we can discuss cus japaneses likes a lots of fantasies like "char" high powered, exploding planets or guard some creatures inside pocket balls or ever. lol, but in terms of animations, I mean dinamic things, japaneses are the masters and the rest are the students.

There you go, a GREAT example in the world of animation: STUDIO GHIBLI. Can you call that low quality animation? It's actually japanese animation, and it kicks many animated movie butts in a row.
I can't say all the japanese animations are exceptional. They make hundreds of series in short amounts of time. But many of their movies and OVAS are exceptional. I suggest you watch some of these, just to see..
@PooKee34 I know what ghibli is. I've seen every single one of their films. Ghibli's stuff isn't even animated like anime. Everyone who knows that. Their work is to be envied. I used to be an otaku btw so on top of being an animator I REALLY know what anime has to offer (and it's limits). It still doesn't change the fact that most anime is animated poorly. Not even all of their OVA's/movies are animated that great lbr.
Well, Japan has the genre diversity down (and that really goes a LONG way), but in terms of actually telling their stories through the animation, they aren't very good. Mostly because they're animation, as shiny as is it, is still rather stiff. Many times it's like watching a talking comic book than it does a comic book come to life.
@tazermaryuu This IS the Iron man Anime made by Madhouse, which seemed alot better. They just scrapped everything you saw in the teaser to replace it with this rubbish.
but there are really good animes like Akira, some of the Gotham Knighs stories, one batman manga (made by DC comics with some anime style drawings. it had lots of potentials but became kinda . . . absurd in the end. started off good but ended absurd), Paprika (it's like inception but anime, inspired Chris Nolan).
some animes are good like Akira but most of them are just . . . surreal, guys. just really surreal. I have nothing against surrealism like Tree of Life or 2001 odyssey but sometimes they're just too weird like One piece ore Dragon Ball Z. Those were the things I watched as a kid and when adults watch it, it's just surreal.
I like the anime animations as long as they go smoothly but the stories are just unbelievably bad most of the time I watch animes

I'm really disappointed that they used the movie design for the armor, I would have loved to see a bunch of Japanese animators and artists take on the Iron Man armor. Also, why does Tony Stark look just like Dante Hicks?

@craternem i wanted to forget that i watched captain america, wish marvel would have just given the japanese a story base line to follow, and allowed them to put their own creative input, they are a lot better at story telling, a lot of animes have incredible stories and character development.....the punisher needs an anime the most, he suffered 3 dreadfull movies!!!

I wouldn't call them idiots. Disney may be lacking in areas, but they for the most part practice actual substance over an abundance of style. And that can make something much more memorable than flashy martial arts power fight #348.

@kemuael Yea....no. Disney is the only animation studio to animates on 1's (that's the highest quality you can get for those who don't know), and their animation tends to be top notch, clean, detailed, etc. That's why they're more popular in the animation world. See my other comment as to why animation in Japanese anime is actually behind everyone else.

@kemuael Um....Japanese anime (strictly speaking about the animation quality itself, nothing else) is at the bottom of the animation totem pole and Disney is at the top, yes. Why are you questioning an animator whose thoroughly studied/practiced this for years when you clearly don't know what you're talking about?

@TheSCCP I think the Japanese better understand the medium's ability to reach a broader audience and they definitely have a dynamic animation style for their various television programs but I wouldn't say they're the masters.

I think they are cus they do a lots of animes with high qualities since the 60's I think. All of we know about many things like camera movements, colors etc, begun with japs. About histories we can discuss cus japaneses likes a lots of fantasies like "char" high powered, exploding planets or guard some creatures inside pocket balls or ever. lol, but in terms of animations, I mean dinamic things, japaneses are the masters and the rest are the students.

@TheSCCP Actually, as far as the actual animation goes Japanese-style anime is behind everybody else. Their designs and backgrounds are detailed, but most of the time the quality of the animation itself sucks. I'm an animator, so I know.

@strtthshw If you are an animator, you may have seen at least one of Hayao Miyazaki's films.
There you go, a GREAT example in the world of animation: STUDIO GHIBLI. Can you call that low quality animation? It's actually japanese animation, and it kicks many animated movie butts in a row.
I can't say all the japanese animations are exceptional. They make hundreds of series in short amounts of time. But many of their movies and OVAS are exceptional. I suggest you watch some of these, just to see..

@PooKee34 I know what ghibli is. I've seen every single one of their films. Ghibli's stuff isn't even animated like anime. Everyone who knows that. Their work is to be envied. I used to be an otaku btw so on top of being an animator I REALLY know what anime has to offer (and it's limits). It still doesn't change the fact that most anime is animated poorly. Not even all of their OVA's/movies are animated that great lbr.

Well, Japan has the genre diversity down (and that really goes a LONG way), but in terms of actually telling their stories through the animation, they aren't very good. Mostly because they're animation, as shiny as is it, is still rather stiff. Many times it's like watching a talking comic book than it does a comic book come to life.

but there are really good animes like Akira, some of the Gotham Knighs stories, one batman manga (made by DC comics with some anime style drawings. it had lots of potentials but became kinda . . . absurd in the end. started off good but ended absurd), Paprika (it's like inception but anime, inspired Chris Nolan).

looks like complete utter shit.
some animes are good like Akira but most of them are just . . . surreal, guys. just really surreal. I have nothing against surrealism like Tree of Life or 2001 odyssey but sometimes they're just too weird like One piece ore Dragon Ball Z. Those were the things I watched as a kid and when adults watch it, it's just surreal.
I like the anime animations as long as they go smoothly but the stories are just unbelievably bad most of the time I watch animes
