The Philippines was a colony Spain from mid 1600s to 1898 when the American defeated Spain and American took over Spains former colonies Puerto Rico, American Samoa and The Marianas (Guam) and what else but the Philippines and became the U.S.A.'s commonwealth until 1945 when Philippines gain her independence from the US. That's why Spanish and English is such a big part of our culture and dialects and that is why the Phil. is predominantly christian and most Filipino can speak english well.

The Filipino languages: Tagalog and other dialects are roughly 30% english 20% Spanish 20% Malay or derivative of Malay and the last 30% evolved in the Philipines with enfluences of Indian and Chinese and Arabic. Actually scholars in the Philippines speak straight tagalog. There really is no spanish or english in the language. It just so happens that we became so fluent with english that we mix our words sometimes with english and spanish. Filipinos aren't the only ones that like to mix words up. American-english has many slang terms. Yes tagalog is unique like a bowl of salad, just like every other language on the planet.

It got to the point that she decided to give up joining singing contest, but her Mom is always there encouraging to continue her dream. That someday there will be happiness for them the whole family. TAll Filpinos should be proud of this young girl,, down to Earth person and incredibly talented.
