Can I go one better, mobleymouse? Theres a scene from College Girl that Ive never forgotten because it captured your cousin in such a beautiful light. Shes taken a tumble skiing and is half-buried in snow. Chad Everett kisses her and she says You melted the snow. In that one shot, shes so radiant, beaming, beautiful and full of light, I have to think it was a glimpse of her true essence as a person. Maybe the wonderful Marachek could post that one.
About time someone posted some love of my favorite cousin!!! Mary Ann is a beautiful person, both inside and out. She would be flattered to tears if she saw that people were enjoying her work on here.
Mary Ann was the producers first choice for Batgirl, but the network over-ruled. The network felt she was too sweet, too soft, and Yvonne Craig inherited the part. The same thing happened to Mary Ann on The Girl from Uncle. She was the producers original choice and was in the Pilot, an episode entitled The Moonglow Affair, along with Norman Fell as the male sidekick. Again, the network over-ruled for the same reasons. Too sweet, too soft. Enter Stephanie Powers.
Thanks, Marachek. Did you ever see the Fantasy Island where Mary Ann loses her husband to a mermaid? Its the strangest thing, she has a scene with Ricardo where she completely breaks down and just sobs uncontrollably. Its like, give this lady an Oscar, PLEASE. But wait, this is just some junky TV show and she's talking about her husband and a mermaid. Probably she was going thru something personal at the time and it just spilled over into this scene. A must see for Mary Ann fans.
Although it seems like junk TV as you get older, i once loved Fantasy Island & Mary Ann Mobley after one look at that exquisite face. In "The Mermaid" episode, John Saxon played her hubby & Michelle Phillips the mermaid, & yes it was a great piece of crying acting by Mary Ann. My own fav. ep. was entitled "The Heroine" in which she plays an authoress come to F. I. to act out a character from one of her own books. To try to make her look bookish & plain she wore glasses, which failed miserably!.
Thanks for the fun reply, hotwok19. Yes, Mary Ann was perfect casting for the bespectacled librarian who removes her glasses, lets her hair down and inspires the man to say, Why, Miss Jones, youre beautiful! hahaha Often she was truly excellent, and almost always overlooked. My favorite MAM role was Perry Mason The Case of the Misguided Model. WOW! Favorite FI was the one with Annette and the ventriloquists dummy. Also fun to see MAMs early work on Burkes Law.
Thank you for your reply, starringJayMcK. I have videotaped all eight of Mary Ann's F.I. episodes & slots in Mission Impossible, The Man from Uncle, the Elvis Presley films Girl Happy & Harum Scarum, a TV sci-fi called The Fantastic Journey & a few more i cannot think of offhand. I have not seen her in your fav. Perry Mason role & it has been many years since that series was shown in the UK, but if it ever does return i will look out for it. I will never delete any of my treasured views of MAM.
That favourite episode of F. I. you mention i also have taped & was called "Mary Ann & Miss Sophisticate". Annette Funicello [sadly, now wheelchair-bound] played Mary Ann & Maren Jensen played Miss Sophisticate. I wouldn't say it was a favourite but i enjoyed it & remember it extremely well because it seem to me so half-baked. When the brought-to-life-dummy [Maren] is making love to some lucky dude, the ventriloquist [Annette] is suffering some strange torment. Bloody hilarious, i thought.
PPS. I have just read that on top of the multiple schlerosis which left Annette Funicello wheelchair-bound, she also went blind by 2005. Very sad indeed!.
You are in for a treat, hotwok19, when you do track down MAMs The Case of the Misguided Model. I dont want to be a spoiler, but its a psycho role. She has both a mad scene and a freak out scene. Also, shes blonde in this one (looks better as a brunette though).
The only way for me to get hold of TCOTMM is to buy the complete Perry Mason season 9 boxset costing around $40, which will have to be shipped in from the U S A for extra. I will have to think that one over!. I notice, starringJayMcK, that you are a Susan Oliver fan, another lady who, like MAM, had an exquisitely beautiful face.
She's a peach. I must ask this question, knowing well that the Lord works in mysterious ways, it has been stated several times that Elvis "slept with" every co-star he acted with except MTM; now that is what I call a Paramount Production. So, one would be lead to believe that everybody means EVERYBODY. Not to pry, but perhaps shed some light on the fact that Men known for numerous conquest are held in high regard. whereas females are tainted. If Elvis worked@Speedy-Lube........same #s?
as I recall she suffers from crohn's disease and was forced to retire. she had a website somewhere. i met yvonne craig. mobley may have been chosen to be batgirl and been unable to assume the role. she is the forgotten u.n.c.l.e. agent and I thought she would have been a better April Dancer than Stephanie. --- What I wonder is what happened to Noel Harrison ? Can't find anything about his whereabouts anywhere ?
Original Batgirl? Excuse me? Please tell me where or how you came across that information. I thought the first Girl from Uncle was Stephanie Powers and the first Batgirl,is Yvonne Craig, who happens to be very much alive! She is selling real estate in AZ and has done voice over work, but not not daunted from returning to acting now and then. She did say she along w/Mary Ann both appeared w/ Elvis in some of his films!
Hey I am Not Kidding This Could Be my Cousin But We dont know for sure yet But My Last name is Mobley And she is related to my Great Great Grand daddy Fred!!!!!
Elpefan informs us that the overuse of botox has given Mary Ann Mobley something of a freakish look to her face, now she is in her sixties. True or not, i prefer to remember her as she was in this videos photos of her. A young lady with the most beautiful face i ever saw.
Does anyone know if Mary Ann has had a stroke or some other debilitating ailment in the last few years? I saw her in a live show recently and her face seems partially paralyzed, she now talks with a lisp. Some people in the audience thought it might be botox and plastic surgery gone wrong. Anone heard anything?
To MuzzikLvr -- I, too, saw on something very recently. She's not paralyzed, however, like many aging women in Hollywood, she's ruined her looks with botoxed, bongo lips. They're SO huge now, they actually affect her speech. She's as sweet a ever but I'm sorry to say, she's now freakish looking with an obivious botox procedure gone wrong. Why do these women do this??
Don't forget she is Gary Collins' girl. Has been for what? Nearly 50 years?!

what is meant by her being "the original batgirl"? I used to get her confused with Moms Mabley because of the similar names!
