This must of been a rough demo they were recording because if you look closely you can tell it's Josh from the way he's standing/headbanging. Josh didn't record the final product, but he might have been there to keep Joey on tempo, or just to get a rough outline for Ross to produce.

no this song was going to be on the first album but legal stuff stoped that from happing josh was on the recording jim came on the roster after the first album was relsed

You're a bit wrong there. Josh recorded most of the songs on "SlipKnoT", Jim recorded only two songs. Purity was on the album when it came out in June 1999. They had to reissue the whole album in December 1999, replacing the tracks "Frail Limb Nursery" and "Purity" with "Me Inside".
