To Black bear! Janine can be found on Bop do Wop. It's a live cut from a fm radio thing in japan. I saw that tour, caught them in buffalo. I too searched for Janine a long time. There is also a live cd called Man Tra from that tour.
Great song, and a good video. I'm not even sure how I stumbled across this tonight, but boy it brought back a lot of great memories. Going to have to go digging through my cd collection now for this one.
No one--but no one could do this like The Transfer. Musical, vocal genius, written by Cheryl . I saw them in this Tour, & ohh my, they were outrageous!. Wolfsky9
The versatile Manhattn Transfer is a vry well-respected jazz vocals group of all time..their core competence as jazz vocalists hv been sustained since d 80s; d only difference now, is they hv aged, but their enabling gift is still as exquisite n as classy as ever. Ive seen their live concerts in 2006, 2001 n 1992 - d performance was amazing, deeply penetrating n magnetic.
My God, thier harmonies are just sick!! Thier voices are amazing, and this is one of the best songs I've heard from them. Anyone know where I could find their version of "Last Time I Saw Janeen"? I saw live footage of them at the Jazz At Newport festival, and I can't find it anywhere.
The way they compliment one another is intense. I have always liked the way Cheryl sings and her vocal range and showmanship is unmatched. (can you tell I have a thing for her) :-) Love, Dave.
Ya know, it realy says somthing about thier talent and fan base because they realy don't get any air play on the jazz stations yet they have influenced generations of jazz and fusion musicians.
Absolutely THE GREATEST - DAMN, listen to the complexity of these vocals - I'm getting chills. Best vocal group EVER. EVER. Fifth Dimension, Carpenters, Mamas & the Papas I LOVE...but the MT was the best.
I Admit that I am and always will be A TAKE 6 fan 4ever, but I totally give credit where its due. Manhattan Transfer was my favorite group before Take 6 and they were doing this type of vocalization even back in the mid 70's!!!. "Bodies and Souls" to this DAY is my favorite MT album.I Own A bunch of MT's CD's including "The offbeat of avenues".. Spectacular.
*just as a side note - Mervyn Warren(Formally of Take 6) arranged the song "Confide in Me" which is on "Offbeat of avenues"
Perfection, vocal gods and godesses. Sends chills up and down the spine.
Have seen them live several times and they never disappoint. ....and Yaron Gershovsky is also a great musician and arranger.

Yup, they always had awesome harmonies and a good stage presence. I guess this was a band that had a lot of arrangements and a lot of rehearsal, huh?

They did this in '93, when the album came out with the same Title. Cheryl wrote it,by the way. Just incomparable. Wolfsky9

@Wolfsky9 Cheryl wrote this? It's not enough that she can replicate Miles Davis' trumpet with her voice? Holy cow! Am such a CB fan.,..
