I love in the slow mo how you can see that the second magazine is already in by about the time the first hits the ground. That looks like alot of practice. Well done!
I think it's muzzle blast in front of the tarp and brass hitting the tarp. There's a minor blast-effect on the tarp but the big waves are from the brass.
Pretty much all competition shooters reload by looking the magazine into the well-- it's far more reliable, especially when moving, and just as quick on a timer. Of course they don't care so much about what the target may be up to while they're reloading...
Somewhere on YouTube is a video of Travis Tomasie's awesome reload-- he's a god at those. Worth a watch in any case.
I can hear people howling at me now. I taught my son to do this without canting the gun. I always told him to keep the gun pointed at his target(s) and not to angle the gun to reload, because in all these videos I see the shooter looking at the mag and mag instead of keeping his eyes on the target without ever leaving it. I've always slapped the mag "straight up" rather than at the angle I see all these shooters do. I even taught my son to reload in pitch black and he caught on in only 15 mins..
Good for ya. I started my son early as well. For the life of me though, I find this such an academic argument, so six in one, half dozen in the other. Your attacker MAY do something that would require your knowledge during the reload that means life or death, but then again, your empty gun is so clearly life or death. If you have cover ya ought ta be usin' it. I wouldn't be trying to reload with my head stickin' out. If I was in the open I'd be moving furious to avoid holes, best to look.
Really? Do you know who and what timer they used? I don't know one that records thousandths of a second since the distance between the gun and timer becomes a factor.
It's possible to do in 2.5 or less-- all you need is about a .6 draw, .8 reload and .11 splits. A number of guys can do that, especially if they get more than one try. Probably not me though.
Its most timers measure up to 1/100th of a second (0.01s) and when the 300fps recording is played at 25 or 30fps it is effectively slowed down by 10x. If you measure the time in the slon-motion, with a regular stopwatch, your precision will by 10 times greater, 1/1000th of a second (or 0.001) as koop did
I guess you could do it that way but then how do you know when the start buzzer sounded? Do they compensate for the speed of sound from the buzzer to the microphone and.or muzzle blast to the microphone? Every foot of distance will add 0.001 sec or so just for that. Are they timing off the visibility of the shots?
btw, I'm not trying to be annoying here, but I had a talk with Jerry Miculek once about his trying to break some of Ed McGivern's revolver records, but the major problem was the timing systems had changed completely and it was about impossible to replicate Ed's setup with what information and equipment they had.
Wow that is news to me I always thought trigger slap was bad gun handling skill. But rob is by far the best icon in the game. I will have to check it out. I am a noob to the game but have learned and got good fast. You look like your around the master lvl in open fun stuff.
Normal slapping would be. But it has it's place at targets within certain distance and little to no danger factor (no-shoots or hard cover).
But also know that "slapping" the trigger on a super light very short competition is different that slapping the much longer, much heavier trigger on a carry or duty piece.
Slapping is slapping if you don't disturb the sights (if you do, a lighter trigger helps, a little). I've seen Todd Jarrett slap stock Glock triggers and get nice hits out at 20 yards, so if your grip and technique are correct it works with anything, which is one reason Todd teaches it.
A little? Slapping a 7.5 # trigger requires 5X the pressure as slapping a 1.5 # trigger, slapping a near zero take up is far different than one with .5" or more. They may both be "slapping" but the "slap" on one doesn't take the slack out of the other.
Saying one should or even could slap and make hits out to 20 yards because TJ can is like tossing a 1 yo in a pool because Phelps can swim fast
Yeah. 'Normal' people could if they really wanted, as it's mostly keeping the direction of the force in-line, but there's not one technique anyway-- I slap up close on fast shots and ride the trigger on longer shots. The key for me is to train enough to not think about it and let my subconscious do what ever it takes to make the shot. What that is varies for everybody and changes as skills and abilities change, but it's one of the things that makes shooting fun.
Thanks. Actually I intentionally slap the trigger on close fast shots like that-- it's a valid technique for high-speed shooting to eliminate trigger-freeze, as long as you don't disturb the sights while you're doing it. Check out some video of Robbie Leatham-- he's the king of trigger-slappers and does ok with it (lol-- 4+ world championships)
They all hit the 18"x24" steel plate. That was my only accuracy goal for this drill-- if it were smaller or further away the shots would be somewhat slower.
Impressive. Do you see any of the 9x25 Dillon guns in the competitions these days? I'd love to see the crazy amount of gas blowing off a 9x25 comp with this camera set at the 1200FPS frame rate.
9x25 is pretty much a dinosaur these days... but I do happen to have an old top end and probably some ammo. I'll try it someday-- great idea; they seemed to have negative recoil, so it would be interesting to see if they really did.
I'd hate to be in a gunfight with him

@2strong2handle No, I'm using a Dawson Precision custom Signature Series Practical Advantage. The Razorcat is also pretty good, but different.
