Just out of curiosity--who played this? Was it a school orchestra?

In music anything less than perfection is not good for example playing on a rest doesn't sound clean. Sloppiness doesn't give the best quality to the sound. Any out of tunes I can live with as long as it's covered up but that's my two cents on how I feel music should be performed. But there's no such thing as a perfect performance so just hope for the best. I'm playing this with the skidmore orchestra and I really enjoy listening to it(:

this is a very old piece and old recording folks...

anw, in arts, i think we should not make such comments? i mean, its the tempo they are comfortable with, so why criticise them or make such comments? People makes mistakes too, so why get bothered by such minor mistakes, rather, as artists, can we just try and respect the way it is played and celebrate what is good about this recording?

Musopen.com says this is Skidmore College Orchestra, that is, not a professional orchestra. Don't bash them and demand performances of such a level the players can't (yet) do.

I was excited to listen, then I heard the trumpets at 2:03 or so, and I just had to stop and find one that was definitely a professional recording. Even listening in passing, I can't do it.

I think that it was pretty good. Just because it wasn't proffesional level doesn't mean that it was horrible. I'm playing this in my school orchestra and this sounds the way we sounded when we first got the music and were sightreading it

Brahms' beard has never looked more luxuriant and the performance, presumably amateur, quite spirited! The horn playing is worthy of the New York Philharmonic with the players barely hanging on by a thread at times.

Ok, the Phil's horn section is probably better but not that much.

Very enjoyable on the whole!
