  • Is that Andy Willams on the far left, as one of the Masquers?

  • Burl Ives could sing various styles of music so well. He did record a few Gospel albums. I wish more of those songs were available on YouTube.

  • so enjoying it. Good old time.

  • I hope the dilikers can swim.

  • @truusus I don't think there will have another great flood like that anymore, but I hope they can swim in lava though.

  • I had not seen this before! I love it. I was raised on Burl Ives.

  • Some where out there is another older version of this song with a woman singing. Does anyone know who that is?

  • A young Burl Ives! Love it. :) I fist heard Burl Ives when I was in the second grade. (I'm 58 now). I loved his album my dad brought home. This is one of my favorite songs. I thought 'Grace' was Noah's wife for years as a small child! Burl was a fantastic singer, performer and actor. I think his Big Daddy on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is the standard for all, and none have come close! Thank you for posting 'my' song!

  • nice tune, but theologically dodgy concerning Noah being good so God favoured him...

  • MANY thanks for posting this! Not only a fascinating glimpse of Burl Ives in his younger performing days but also an absolutely wonderful song. Quite a delightful toe tapping ditty! :)

  • wonderful singing

  • never thought I'd see this guy that young. I'm so used to his look from Summer Magic.

  • this guys a real thrasher

  • love the arm raising at the end.

  • I'm not religious but I love this song.

  • would it be such a terrible thing to have people think you might be religious had you simply stated "I love this song"...?

  • I love that clarinet!

  • This is wonderful. Makes you feel good just listening to it. Lifts your spirits. Thank you for posting it.

  • AWESOME song...I love Burl Ives,

  • Burl Ives was a "De Molay of de Vere" .

  • Is this a Negro spiritual?

  • I believe it is. I have an album of spirituals done by Tennessee Ernie Ford and this song is on it.

  • Nope, it's written by Robert W. Schmertz, nicknamed "The Troubadour of the Two by Four," and long-time resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

  • goog old burl ives.

  • I enjoyed this.

  • That's so strange. I think thats from the tail leader which I'm sure I pulled from some random film in my collection. Strange.

  • The last few seconds of this video contain back-tracked dialog -- which sounds like jibberish. I recorded these few seconds, then reversed it using Goldwave sound software. The words spoken are "...and he was with me that day, and he's still with me, and I can talk to him." I know this is irrelevant to Burl Ives' wonderful music, but that's what was spoken on the end, for those who are intersted.

  • He should have had a little more "fun" w/this song...Smile, Burl...

  • Of course he's having fun! He's play-acting being a minister. Look at him walking righteous. :-)

  • Oh man you just can,t get great tunes like this anymore that,s great music.

  • Burl Ives does a great job on this, but I don't understand why I can't find "Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. He definately has the best version of it and I can't find it anywhere. If anyone has any information regarding it, please contact me.

  • every time I see something as good as this I feel like I got dealt a bad hand to live in this era, the 50's must have been so great.

Though I can't complain I am still blessed and an AMERICAN!

  • Those who lived then report the same amount of happiness and unhappiness as today.

Not when you live, but what you do in it. "Blessed are the Peacemakers" -- those who live gently in times of horror.

  • We can only hope that our children would

watch this, they will try and take this off next

  • What a great song! I always thought that the Statler Brothers were the only ones to sing this song.

  • MCMLI = 1951

  • What date is this from? You did well.

  • MCMLI

  • @plotbox MCMLI is 1000 + (1000-100) + 50 + 1 =1951, sorry I'm 2 years late! lol

  • What a kick on the pants! I love this!!

  • We all live by grace. May Jesus Chist bless those who are suffering today and forever.

  • Why can't they we bring more of these video network tv for our children to watch?

  • Beats MTV.

  • @lauraandcalin

I second that emotion! Never saw the late great Burl Ives as young as he is here! Fascinating clip....proof that even a gospel number can swing! THANKS for your comment! :)

  • found graceamong my favorites

  • I enjoyed this. The Statler Brothers also recorded this song. It's a toss up as to which one I like the best.

  • This is great. Anyone know who's in the backing group? A couple of the faces look familiar.

  • The beginning of the clip says "The Masquers" are backing Burl on this.
