The first time I saw this video years ago, I laughed so hard I was crying.
Jake Hess was so much fun, his laughing made this song so much more fun.
I met Jake after a Christmas Gaither Homecoming once and he was just exactly as I imagined the person he would be. My daughter was 14 months old (1997) then and loved Jake. He was so thrilled she could sing little parts of his songs. He was so sweet and was happy to get his picture taken with us. I will always love and miss Mr. Jake Hess!!
First time I saw this was on TBN several years ago. Bill Gaither had a half hour promotional program to promote his Homecoming videos. This part with Tim Lovelace was part of the one video. I don't see how Tim can keep straight face through this. I love it though. Thanks so much for posting it.
You gotta love the fact that Bill stands up and walks over in the middle of the song, and the piano keeps on playing. Obviously a track or another piano. The piano accompaniment gets much fancier once they start the song again for the final (live) performance. Still one of my favorite Gaither moments!!
Ha! I have to watch this video every once in a while...it brings such joy. What a funny man. Who said being a Christian is dull? Not Tim! And not me! OneKewpie
Refrain: Now when the three were cast in and the king rose up To witness this awful fate He began to tremble at what he saw In astonished tones he spake Did we not cast three men bound Into the midst of the fire Well, Lo, I see four men unhurt Unbound and walkin' down there; There's Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego And the fiery coals they trod But the form of the Fourth Man that I see Is like the Son of God
I have seen a lot of great Christian comedy skits. But, this one has to be the funniest of any I have seen. It has me rolling on the floor with tears in my eyes every time I see it! Thanks for posting!
I think they're singing with a track also. Bill is playing but if you notice when he stands up to talk to Tim, there is still a piano playing in the background. Bill is a good piano player though.
If you notice at the first of the clip, another piano player is at the lower end of the piano bench, if I remember from TV, he took over when Bill stood up.
one of my all time funny moments. i'm sure some of this was planned but the reaction of the hoppers, danny gaither, easters let me know there is alot of spontaniety as well. infact i enjoy the audience laughter more than anything. bill was known as a perfectionist and was kind of intimidating and i think the other singers enjoyed seeing this side of bill.
It was all part of the comedy, Bill was not mad at all. Anthany Burger or someone else was also playing the piano. This was a great song and alot of fun. Tim and Jake are hilarious.
Hey Guys, just wanted to share with you (so we can all fully enjoy this) this is all a planned thing. Bill does the same basic routine on a couple of older GVB videos with Mark Lowry. He isn't losing his cool with Tim, its all part of the act. And they do have session players that are the primary music you hear. Bill just sort of chords along when he plays. Just wanted to share. Please don't take any of this out of its context. Thanks and God bless you all!
I agree...Tim IS hilarious, but I've seen this type of comedy before. Bill really didn't lose his cool. If you'll notice, he does the same thing often with Mark Lowry.
Hysterical & clean!

Refrain:
They wouldn't bend
They held on to the will of God so we are told
They wouldn't bow
They would not bow their knees to Idols made of gold
They wouldn't burn
They were protected by the Fourth Man in the fire
They wouldn't bend
They wouldn't bow, they wouldn't burn.

Absolutely not. It prolly was rehearsed this way, in spite of what Bill Gaither said.
When you watch Bill's videos and Mark Lowry, you would have little doubt!

hoover4000: I'd just watched "Look For Me" by Tanya Goodman Sykes and cried all the way through it. Then, I laughed all the way through this one.
There's nothing like being in a room or Church with Holy Ghost filled Christians, at least until we get "over there."
Vestal used to sing, "You've Known Nothing..Until You've Known The Love Of God."
What a wonderful time we'll have over there.

The guy in the powder blue jacket is Willie Wynn whose signature song was "I Know" by LaVerne Tripp. He sings that song on this same video.
